SSR history?

When was SSR announced? When did sales begin?

The take-with-grain-of-salt resource, Wikipedia, says it opened in 2004:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Disney's_Saratoga_Springs_Resort_&_Spa

That sounds about right, from my recollection. This link below says sales began in August of 2003.

And the other link, below says: "In 2002, Disney announced that the Disney Institute would be developed into a new DVC property. It became the Saratoga Springs Resort in the spring of 2004."

In other words, from announcement to virtual sellout: six years.

Hope this helps!

SSR was announced in 2002 - and plans for the previously announced "Eagle Pines Resort" were put "on hold". To build SSR, the old buildings formerly used as units for Disney Village and later for The Disney Institute were all raised to create the space needed for the new resort. The Spa, restaurant area and front desk facilities - as well as some of the Insitute classrooms. These have been included at SSR as Community Hall, the Front Desk and now also part of the Sales Center models.

Sales at SSR began on August 4, 2003 at $89 per point (also with $10 incentive discount = $79) with expiration in 2054. This was the first DVC resort with an expiration different then the original January 31, 2042.

In early May, 2004 SSR opened with just one building (at Congress Park) opened. Subsequent buildings were opened one-at-time about a month apart. At this time the plan was to have a total of 12 buildings - another phase - with an additional 6 buidlings was later announced.

In May, 2004 the purchase price was raised to $95 per point @SSR, and $89 at other DVC resorts.

Plans for "Eagle Pines" have not been resurrected as a DVC resort. After being announced, including the release of architectural drawings, some construction prep work was started, but ended once work began on SSR. More recently Disney announced plans for a "Four Seasons" resort in the Eagle Pines area which may include an interval ownership resort as well as private homes in the glof course setting.

You mean razed? :rotfl2: (was trying to picture Disney elevating the old Disney Institute) :rotfl:

Sorry, don't mean to be picky:happytv:

Thanks so much guys! :)

So assuming it is now sold out (or surely will be before August), then it took a bit under 5 years for it to sell, right?
