SSR did not look too good

We are arriving at SSR on Christmas Day and staying until New Years Day.

1. The resort is under major construction. (We know.)
2. Transportation stinks. (We're renting a car.)
3. No great eats at SSR. (I'm making PSs for all over the "world".)
4. It's crowded at that time of the year. (But what better time
to be a "kid"?)

We're so happy to be DVC owners!!! And I've always wanted to be in WDW during the holidays, especially NYE!!

Vacation is what you make of it, but also it's who you are. We are always happy with life and what we've gotten from our experiences.

Complain about a trip to WDW...Me? Never in a million years!!

I toured SSR the week before it opened. It is beautiful ! I can appreciate the comments about transportation and construction, but the areas that have been completed are truly lovely. The landscaping is young, but very nicely done. With a little patience extended toward the issues surrounding the newness of the resort, I would expect a very nice vacation. The themeing was well done. It has the Disney touch everywhere I looked. Sandie

The only transportation issue we had during our stay 5/30-6/5 was the boat to DtD. The buses were empty and ran more efficiently at SSR than any other DVC I've stayed at.

I was at the Market Place in DTD and it is like 40 miles from SSR. They need a walkway on the Marketplace side of DTD to SSR. They told me to take a bus. The bus took 30 minutes and make like 4 stops (Typhon Lag...) before getting to SSR.

Closer to .5 miles, but Caskbill and I will have to validate that with our GPS devices. As far as bus stops go, you would have a maximum of 3 leaving from the Marketplace : Pleasure Island, Typhoon Lagoon (daytime only) and the first stop at the Carriage House

I am sure they will work on the place and correct things with new walkways, more boats and buses. If your staying there before the place is fixed, I hope you have patients, you will need it.

Fixed? That would imply to me that it is broken. I stayed there; nothing is broken

I think Dean and Doc have patients, and I think the rest of us have a bit more patience.

One of the reasons why the posts on this site are so unbalanced is the way this OP has been treated. This poster stated his or her feelings about SSR. I for one would like to thank him. I once stayed at a new hotel in Vermont at Killington and wished I had know ahead of time about the construction. They were putting in a walkway near the pool area, the dust and noise was unbearable. The main problem with this site, which is the best is far as I am concerned, is that it has one weakness that being that people do not tell things that are negative because of the reaction they get, thus we have a very unbalanced view of things. I for one would like to hear how it took what 40 minutes to get from DD to SSR by bus, it sounds to me they took the long route stopping a water park on the way, sort of like the route the bus from AK to OKW that took me over 50 minutes to get home counting waiting for the bus. These are things people want to know, I am sorry that in breaks the love fest that some of you seem to have with everything at WDW. The original post was a good post. Thank you.

Good enough, let's take a look at that original post, and the observations posted there within.

Fist off, the OP stated that DTD was 40 miles, not 40 minutes from DTD.

Secondly, the OP stated that it took "like 4 bus stops" from DTD to SSR. Work it out, I rode that bus several times, 3 stops max from the Marketplace to SSR, if you count the Carriage House stop at SSR as the 3rd.

And, the bottom line is, "So what?". If I want to stay on the bus from DTD to OKW until the last stop, I believe that is either 5 or 6 stops. So what is the point? Did DVC market SSR as being a "one bus stop" route from DTD?

While some may choose to selectively view and categorize postings on this board as contributions to a "Disney Love Fest", I believe that the majority of people actively posting here contribute to both the positive and negative aspects of DVC, but in any event elect to do so factually.

Regarding the "love fest", we've been lurking here for months as we contemplate a DVC purchase. The one thing that has amazed me about these message boards is the complete honesty. I don't feel it's a "love fest" at all. Many days my husband would come home from work to me having learned something new about DVC and it wasn't always so positive. In the end, after thinking about it for several months, we did decide to purchase and I really appreciate the candor of the posters here. I don't see a "love fest" at all. What I do see is people correcting information that appeared to be mistaken. And I appreciate that.

Lets be accurate I said Like" 40 Miles". It took at least 40 minutes to get back to the resort. It does not matter if it is .5 miles or 500 miles. If it takes me 45 minues to get .5 miles, it is like 40 miles to me. So "like 40 miles" is how I describe it.

We stoped 4 times on that way to SSR. 2 times at DTD, Once at Typh Lag and at the carrage house. To make matters worse, after the initial stop, we were stoping for nobody. Its time for disney to work on a signal system to increase efficiency.

I appologize if you feel my facts are inaccurate. I enveyed the people that stayed accross the street from the market place. They had an easy walk. If Disney is going to open a resort, they should:

Have the stupid walkways open
Have transportation that comes every 15 minutes
Put up some signs do people can tell where they are going
Have some people out to answer questions

Just my thoughts, I truely hope that you enjoy your stays. I think it is a matter of what you expect. I expect a lot from Disney.

While I agree that there are many examples of people beeing treated MERCILESSLY over negative posts, I have to agree with CRobin about the bus commentary.

It appears that the DD/TL bus makes the rounds in the following order:

1. SSR Stops
2. DD Marketplace
3. DD Pleasure Island
4. Typhoon Lagoon
(then back to SSR)

So, if you get on at the marketplace and are headed for SSR, it's going to be one of the longer trips. On the other hand, if you board the bus at SSR and are headed for the Marketplace, that trip will probably take about 5 minutes.

Just one of the give-and-take realities of bus transportation.

Last month we took a bus from the DD Marketplace to the Boardwalk. We basically had the same experience--stops at PI and TL before moving on to the Boardwalk. Heck, the bus might have even stopped at other Epcot resorts before the BW, but I was too tired to even remember. And, yeah, it was a fairly miserable experience. We waited every bit of 20 minutes just for a bus to arrive. By the time we hit our room, it was nearly an hour after we first arrived at the DD bus stop.

Lesson learned: next time, rent a car. :)

I once spelled maul for mall here on this site and was corrected. The original poster did the same with another word, pointing it out in a follow up post is very insulting, many of us saw it. To correct an error "Doc" did with bus instead of boat is the proper thing to do. One may think the bus took that long otherwise, but to correct maul instead of mall or like was done with this poster "patients" is not. What I do when I post on this site is make sure I got my story straight, when I say it took 50 minutes from AK to OKW, I timed it, and it included 30 minutes wait for the bus. I would place myself at the head of the table for negative posts and my negative attiutude about a lot of things at WDW. I stand by my remark "lovefest", it has been going on here for years. I thank the OP for his remarks, I know that I will never get on a bus from DD to SSR, of course I wouldn't, I always drive, or take the boat to DD anyway.

I feel compelled to post on this topic...

We attended MH in May and took a drive over to SSR to check it out. Right after passing through security, having gotten the 3rd degree from the guard who seemed like he didn't want to let us in, we got a very cold unwelcome feeling. We had drivin to other resorts on this trip and was always greeted with a quick smile upon noticing our VWL car tag in the window. Not here, I had to show picture ID and explain why we wanted to come in. I was speaking with a family in DD about SSR and they were actually refused enterence all together, and they own there!! I own at OKW/BCV/VWL/VB and would have had a big problem if they didn't let me in!

We proceeded to the visitor parking lot and went into the DVC demo/sales building and spoke briefly with a women who stood behind the counter, but did not greet us. She said we could walk around outside but could not see the demo units without an appointment. We asked her what time the Member Update was and she told us in 24 hour format, are we in the military?

We just ended up walking around a bit, through the pool area which was nice and eventally found the lobby, which we found to look like the inside of a large orange!

Before we left I was considering doing an add-on there, even though I really don't need any additional points, but I think I am going to pass. If the resort blew me over I may have done it but we were not that impressed.

Hopefully, after everything is completed things will change a bit in terms of overall feel. I have been an owner since 1995 and feel they have a while to go yet to meet up with the other resorts.

I am sure things will improve knowing DVC.
