Has anyone cruised on the 3 Day Disney Wonder in the last couple months and was able to use their cell phone?
I have a Sprint wireless and a Cingular/ATT blackberry. If you have used either one of those services, I would love the gift of your experience to help me figure out what is available and when. Disney Cruise customer service was not helpful other than confirming that Sprint and Cingular are available on the ship once it is 8-10 miles out to sea.
My other questions are for anyone who has these services are..:
1) I have International Plan already on Cingular Blackberry. Is this sufficient for access on the ship? Or is their a special "cruise access" you need to sign up for? Were you able to get data services or voice only?
2) Sprint told me I didn't need to do anything special to use the phone on the ship or in Nassau, I'd go right to international roaming at .60/minute but txt messages and sprint vision were within my normal domestic plan. The agent didn't sound very confident of that though, so is that true information?
3) Does either service work (either via Bahamian roaming/international roaming or the shipboard cellular access) at Castaway Cay? Disney could not answer at all if a cellular signal is available on Castaway Cay on board the ship or on the island
4) Is it true that you can only get cellular service in your stateroom?
5) Have you used Skype and is that more cost effective than trying to use a cell?
Any help would be greatly appreciated from anyone who has cruised recently. I am a great advocate of being disconnected from the world when on a cruise but unfortunately, one of my travel party's loved ones will be awaiting surgery results while we are traveling and they are anxious to be able to stay in touch.
I promise when we return from the cruise, I'll post a trip report what our result was for cellular access.
