Thanks!

Is the Space Mountain question the technical difficulties question?

Nope. It's "What would you do if a kid wanted to ride Space Mountain, but was too short?".

Is it still considered pretty early on in the program recruitment? Because i'm hoping for a certain attraction(s) and I know you have a better chance of getting them if you interview early.

Yes, it is very early.

Oh, that's good! I'd really like to work at the Haunted Mansion XD It's my favorite attraction. I don't know if there are certain rides reserved for CM's though...

CPs can work just about any attraction. However, HM is one of THE most popular ride, for any CM.

I've been lurking on the boards forever, and I finally decided to join once the applications went up last night! I wanted to wait until I got back to school to fill out my application, but I don't think I can wait that long, I just want to apply and get the interview done and over with already! I'm SO excited!

Where on LI are you from?

i applied for attractions, merchandise, hospitality and transportation but she told me hospitality was only for hospitality majors so that rules that 1 out

That's kind of completely untrue. I applied for hospitality and my interviewer said that although I wasn't a major, I had lots of good customer service experience and it was a real possibility that I could get a position. And I've heard of plenty of non-majors doing hospitality. It's not as common, but it happens.

My interview is in about an hour and I'm starting to feel nervous.

I'm used to interviews as I've already been through about 5 of them this summer alone and got offered jobs after all of them. I have work experience and training with operating and attending rides. I have experience behind a cash register and stocking a store. I spent my summer speaking publically in normal voice and over PA systems everyday. at all of my jobs this summer (I have 3 jobs - Six Flags, Music Director, and Sales Associate) I've dealt with people. I've been in those situations when kids do not meet the height requirement and I've been in situations where I've had to close a ride down and deal with upset guests. I know more about Disney than the average Disney fan and I know exactly what it is that I want to do. But yet...I have more butterflies in my stomach now than ever. I am SOOO afraid I'm going to screw over this interview and ruin my chances at the program. I've been waiting for this opportunity for a few years now and this is the only chance I have at doing it...if I mess up now, that's it. Ugh! I need to calm down or I'll really say something stupid!! lol.

Sorry, vent over, lol.

To be honest, with your experience you could royally botch the interview and still get into the program. Relax and think of it as having a fun time talking to another Disney fan on the phone. You'll do great!

We sound like the exact same person, except you have more work experience than me. I prepared SO much for the interview, and know way more about the program than I should. Just TRY to relax. I was a complete wreck before my interview, and pretty much panicked for 2 days straight, but it's NOT that bad. Your interviewer will make you feel very comfortable on the phone, to the point I think it's pretty impossible to completely screw up, unless all your answers are "I hate Disney." Good luck, let us know how it goes!

You'll be just fine... Make it fun! These aren't stressful interviews, so don't let them be... I think you'll be surprised! Good luck!

I feel like if I give them too many specifics they might get upset. Like if I said "My first choice is attractions, (and i'm not sure how to word this next part) preferably the Haunted Mansion but I know that it's a highly sought after attraction so TOT or Mission Space would be great too" they might feel like i'm being too picky

Well this is how I did it. At the end of the interview she asked if I had any questions for her. My exact words were "Well, if I were to get in the program, not saying I will but really really hoping I do, would there be any way to ask for a preference on which attraction you work at?". She said once you are chosen for a role, no, but what she types is how the recruiters get to know me so if I told her now I'd probably have a really good chance at it. I let her know either Rock N Roller Coaster or the safari and she said she can't promise it, but letting her know about it during the interview gives me a better chance for it.
So its worth a shot asking for what you want. I would personally wait until the end of the interview to ask about it so they can get to know you better but its definitely worth asking for.

I finished my interview around 7:20. About 25 minutes total. I was called 5 minutes before the scheduled time and I'm so glad I prepared 10 minutes in advance! lol.

I think it went fairly well. I told her the roles I was interested in were attractions, merchandise, and hospitality. She told me that hospitality was the most sought-after role right now and extremely competitive. BUT not out of the question. So it's not just for Hospitality majors. She also stressed to me that I should pick ALL the roles that appeal to me. I was thinking that I don't want to put done something I'd "settle" for just so that I get accepted. If I just leave my choices at those three do you guys think I should have a pretty good chance of getting one of them as I'm applying so early? Or should I check off some more before I fax in my app and check-list? :confused3

I got asked these questions:

Why do you want to participate in the college program?

What are some of your best memories at Disney? (I told her how long I've been visiting the parks which lead to this question)

[attractions] I got asked the Space Mountain question.

[merchandise] I got asked what I would do in a situation where a customer was looking for an item that was out of stock.

[hospitality] And I got asked what I would do if a man came to me wet from the pouring rain and all upset from having to wait two hours in line for Space Mountain.

I answered the attractions and merchandise questions smoothly as I have been in both situations countless times at two of my jobs...but naturally, I'm still nervous haha. I was caught off guard with the hospitality question though but I think I answered it okay? Not sure lol. I said something along the lines of making him feel very welcomed and I would try to make him feel more happy and calm him down. I also said that if available, I'd offer him some towels to dry off with. I had about a 5 second pause I said "um"...I know that doesn't help me but I'm hoping that doesn't hurt me too much. lol.

I didn't put in any request for specific locations until after she had asked me if I had any questions. I asked if it would be possible to put in a request for a specific location should I get accepted into any of the roles. She told me while there are no guarantees, now is the time to put the requests in. So that's when I told her where I'd like to work and she took note. *crosses fingers*.

I had about 5 questions for her. I pretty much already knew the answers though thanks to you guys! lol. But I asked how the classes work, how housing assignments work, etc. I know asking questions makes you sound more interested and wanting to learn more about the program so that is why I asked what I did. There wasn't a time I had to say "I don't know" or anything like that so I think that should help a little, I hope haha.

She seemed to really like that I had lots of public speaking and part-memorizing experience. She also seemed very interested that I had cash-handling experience. Eeeeee I hope that's a good sign!! lol.

She was very "official" and point-by-point about the interview. She only talked about the question. As soon as I answered, she moved on to the next question. It wasn't really a "conversation" and it was probably the most "formal" interview I've had all summer. What I mean by that is, she didn't really ask me any questions about me nor did she trail on any of my answers. It was just, like I said, point-by-point. lol. That made me kind of nervous. As I sat on my bed, doodling nonsense marks on my notepad out of nervous habit, I almost felt too casual for this phone interview by the way it went! hahaha.

All-in-all...I thought it went well and I'm looking forward to hearing from them soon!!!

While reading Loves Disney's report I realized that when my interviewer asked what my favorite parks were I said one of them was MGM. Hopefully that won't hurt me, it has been MGM my entire life I will never be able to call it Disney's Hollywood Studios. Just too long to say.

Oh and congrats loves disney, it sounds like the interview went great! I guess your interviewer just wasn't in a talkative mood. I know both times I interviewed we ended up getting way off the subject just talking, but its good yours got right to the point.

hey guys. my interview is tomorrow and I'm super nervous.haha I was going to check off character performer as my 1st choice because I think that would be the best job ever!:goodvibes Does anybody know what kind of questions they ask you during your interview?

So I had my interview last night and I think it went really well!
First we went through the basic stuff. Name, email, blah blah blah..the stuff on the actual app. Then she asked me why I wanted to be a cast member at Disney. She also asked why I want to do it at this time in my college career, which caught me off guard a little bit. Then we talked about the roles I was applying for and I told her that I wanted attractions first, then character attendant, then merch.

She asked the Space mountain question, my answer was solid. I told her that I was interested in a speiling role. She asked if I was willing to memorize long scripts of up to 30 pages and comfortable with loading guests into rides or operating computers to run rides. I told her that I was up for a challenge.

After that we went on to character attendant. She asked what I would do if a guest was getting too rough with a character. My answer wasnt the best, but it worked.

Then she asked if I would be interested if they offered me QSFB and I said that my experiences was better geared towards the roles that I checked off.

Then she asked if I had any questions and I said no, and she told me to have a magical day. Now, I just have to find the fax machine on my campus haha...
Good Luck to everyone with an interview =)

Wow it sounds like you did a really good job! My interview is tomorrow and i'm reading over my stupid outline :rotfl: I really don't want to mess this up!

My third choice is merchandise - do you think they'll ask me the question about the item not being in stock? If so, is it an acceptable answer to say that I would call another Disney store to check if they had it in stock? I didn't know if that was realistic or not.

Also, at the end when she asks if I have any questions, would that be the time to ask for the spieling role? I'm thinking i'll say something along these lines "I'd very much like a spieling role, at the Haunted Mansion in particular. TOT would be wonderful too. Or Mission Space."

I don't want to bog her down with too many options XD

If an item is not in stock, I would say double check (saying this sort of gets at what you were saying when you asked if you should check with other stores BUT it doesn't say it directly so that way you don't have to worry whether that's right or not lol) and then if none are available, kindly let the customer know that the item is currently out of stock and then suggest some other items that the customer might enjoy instead: alternate options in replacement of the unavailable item. This is how we deal with that situation at the job I'm working at now (bookstore) - we also tell the customers that we order new shipments everyday but that could be different depending on the store so when I got asked this question during my interview I left that bit out lol.

I asked about preferences when she asked if I had any questions. I said someting along the lines of "If I should get accepted, would it be possible to request specific locations to work at?" Since it was a question I had for her, I waited until she asked for questions. Also, with the woman who interviewed me, she kind of left no room for me to ask at any other time, lol. She flew through that interview as if we needed to complete it in 30 seconds haha.

"I'd very much like a spieling role, at the Haunted Mansion in particular. TOT would be wonderful too. Or Mission Space."

There are spieling roles at HM? Did I miss something?! That's my favorite ride, but I wouldn't consider anything there spieling...

All attractions may have a line or 2 for you to say, but HM spiels are all recorded (ghost host)...

I would try to decide on your 2 favorite options...no more than 3... And then ask at question time, "I know you can't guarantee anything, but may I request a specific attraction in case I get that role?" She'll probably say yes, and then just give a short list, "HM, ToT, or MS". Don't be too wordy...

If you want spieling, ask for that while you're discussing attractions, but don't request the 3 attractions then...they aren't spieling attractions. She'll probably ask if you're able to memorize a script. If you do ask for spieling, perhaps ask for 1 or 2 of those attractions at the end (i.e. Kilimanjaro Safari, Jungle Cruise, Great Movie Ride, etc...)

Hope this was of some help! Good luck! :)

Just want to let you know, the 3 you listed are not spieling attractions. Spieling attractions would be something like JC, GMR, ect.
