Spray Painting Laminate Countertops? - UPDATE Post 34!

Nice work :)! Isn't it amazing how long laminate lasts? Those counters looked like they were in pretty good shape.

They had their "home improvement guy" (can't remember his name) demoing this on the CBS Early show Thursday morning.

I am totally impressed. Can you tell me exactly what you used and where you purchased it. Are there other colors? I would like one that is more brown.

Hey I have those same UGLY yellow countertops YUCK you did an awesome job:goodvibes I am also looking to redo my countertops but mine are not in great shape like yours is.

Wow - I just have to say your countertops are beautiful...like night and day. And for $60? :worship:

Was it difficult to do?

Thanks for the kind words everyone!
The product is Giani Granite Paint for Countertops. It was mentioned earlier in this thread by another poster. Here is the website: http://www.liquidstainlesssteel.com/giani/products.html . I ordered from here since there were no stores around me that carried it (check the link for stores that carry it and then call first because some may carry only the stainless steel paint). It only comes in two colors. Mine was "Sicilian Sand" and the other is "Bombay Black". You could make it more brown by covering up almost all of the black primer with the brown paint and using less of the gold and white paints. It really wasn't hard. The most difficult part was doing the very small spaces that were hard to reach with the sponge. I used an artist's paint brush and it took awhile. You can see in the photos where the backsplash meets the counter it looks different because that was done with the brush and not the sponge. So was the top of the backsplash. I think the cost was more like $55 because the only additional things I needed to buy were a paint tray and painter's tape. Everything else came in the kit.

Wow, that looks great! I might need to check into this as an option for now until we can save up for the real deal. Looks astounding. You did a nice job and probably just added an easy $3000 to your kitchen value. :thumbsup2

Wow, that looks great.

I think I have those same ugly yellow counter tops too.

Just looking at your pictures I thought "does she live on my street?" since you live in CT too. Maybe you do. It looks like the same kitchen except your cabinets are nicer!

Nope, can't be the same street because I live in central CT, not the shoreline. Probably our houses were built in the same time frame. Mine was built in 1979 - during the decade of the yellow countertops! :rotfl2:

Wow, your countertops look fantastic! I am glad it worked out for you. I still haven't gotten my kit yet as I have a gazillion things yet to do before I get to that but I was pricing everything out and I plan on getting the silica sand and the stainless steel paint for my fridge. I have awful 4 x 4in white ceramic tiles that I want to paint over. Don't know if it will turn out as nice as your countertop but the customer service rep who answered back on a Sat no less, assured me it was doable. Sure can't beat the price for a job well done.

Wow! You did a great job OP!! I went to the website and love the Jet black countertop. You only have to paint it back and then use their automotive clear coat. Seems easy enough and I don't have to be an artiest to blend in the extra colors. LOL I've always wanted black granite countertops. I have ugly tan color laminate countertops. And it's only 26.00 for the jet black:cool1:!!!!

They must have just added that because I swear that wasn't there when I ordered. There are also three new granite colors: blue, green, and red. I wouldn't want any of those myself, but it looks like they are expanding their line which is a positive!

Thanks OP! Your countertops look great! I think DH and I are going to try the black or stainless steel. If anyone else decides to try it, please post on here :thumbsup2

wow, that is just the coolest!!! Our house is only 6 years old, but this may be a good option someday when I am bored of the look we have!! You did a wonderful job!

Very cool! I have a wall of cabinets /ugly off-white laminate in my office, and this would be perfect. Since my area isn't a kitchen, it gets very light use. I'm definitely going to try this.
