Dh called our guide and asked him why some people got extentions on the "touring" discount and others were held to the 3 day rule.

Basically our guide said it is completely impossible. That under no circumstances is the 3 day rule extended and no other guides could extend it for their customers. That unless you left a deposit within the 3 days of having the tour the discount is lost.

He even said he would take names punch them into the computer for us and prove it. So basically everyone who claims to have gotten the discount after the 3 day rule is either mistaken or they had left a deposit. Since I don't have the names of the disboarders my case closed at that LOL.

So basically unless I could show proof with members names he is saying the same thing he told us from day one. That there is no extention to the three day after tour rule.

Now bu three days I mean after your vacation ended...that was the offer we were told was non negotiable.

I know others have spoken in general terms about having the 3 day offer extended, as in "it's just a sales ploy", but I have yet to read where anyone has actually been granted an extension.

DVC does seem to hold to their word on this and in the timeshare world, that is rare.

Thanks for posting your experience and I encourage others to heed the warning if they are considering purchasing.

We debated this thoroughly a few months back, and I was surprised at the number of people who claimed they got an extension on the discount.

One of my thoughts back then--and this thread at least lends some credence to the theory--is that extending the discount is a result of the individual Guide acting against the wishes of DVC to make a sale. I don't know how DVC tracks these sorts of things, but I have to believe that an individual Guide would have some capability to go into his/her computer and alter whatever records are kept regarding tour dates and/or discount expiration.

People who don't go through the tour are not locked in to any king of timeline. So if your'e still interested and want the discount, why don't you just call disney as if you've never taken the tour. Unless you signed some kind of paperwork, get a different sales person to help you and your problem goes away.

It's not that simple. DVC tracks each point of contact for each client / potential client. I've seen people report that they sent away for a video in 1998, and then when they called to re-establish contact with DVC 6 years later, they were already in the computer and had a Guide assigned.

Also, during the tour, they have an audio-animatronic mosquito implant a tiny microchip in the back of your neck so in the event of a contact database error you still won't get the discount.

We were in WDW the last week of May/First Week of June this year. Took the tour. Told of 3 day rule. Called on 5th day to buy SSR. Told too late. I countered with it was the 3rd business day since return. Told too late but she would check with her Manager. Told sorry. Asked to speak with Manager, told by Manager too late, "NOTHING WE CAN DO!"

Thank Goodness, as we bought 400 OKW at 67 instead. 2 weeks after OKW purchase, our Guide called with the new offers available. Told her sorry, just closed on OKW!

However, I am thinking of SSR 130 Points! (5 point discount, rent 2005 points and 2 APs) :hyper:

I found absolutely no yielding on 3-day rule.

Thanks guys. Now Dh is a little annoyed at me for making him look like a fool to our guide LOL. He will get over it. I am glad he made the call though since it has always been in the back of my mind that we were not treated like everyone which wouldn't be fair. I am glad I can finally put it to rest :)

You are correct. Disney keeps records. When I was at Disney, I had asked for documentation in 2000 or 2001 about the DVC. When I called in July, they referenced that material. They are not totally accurate though as my guide kept referring to what I saw on the tour. I never went on the tour, I just picked up documentation (I may have went on the tour if the fool at the DVC booth had been more cooperative).

I'm sure if I did a search I could find it, but ala, this is quicker. Whatat is the 3 day rule? We're thinking of adding on (even though we haven't closed the first purchase yet LOL) and recetnly got the offer in the mail to members with the incentives. We're visiting in November. Should we take a tour then and maybe get even a better offer? Of if we don't feel we can add on the full amount for current incentives, will the tour maybe earn us some 3 day only deals?

One thing my guide did tell me was that the 3 day rule did not apply once they started selling a new property. So, we first took the tour when BWV were selling and were offered a special promo for 3 days. But, we didn't buy. Then we looked again when BCV became available and they were able to offer it to me again because it was a new property. Unfortunatly, this probably won't help you as SSR is the only thing available for awhile.

The other thing I have heard to get around this is if your husband was the only one whos name they took, you could call in using your name and they would give you the discount.

Not only did they keep my information for several years, they seem to have used my first date of contact, as my "member since" date on my membership card.
I am not certain why they did this.
I bought into DVC this last May, and my membership card states "member since 07/94".
I didn't realize that it was that long ago, that I had first requested the information.

Did you buy a resale? Chances are excellent that that is the original date on the contract you bought, not your first date of contact with Disney. Anyone who buys a resale contract as their first, gets a blue card with the date from the original owner of the contract.

I'd be inclined to give them what they want. There were at least a couple of people that posted they were allowed to get the incentive when they might not should have. Ask for their names and give that info to your guide. While it's possible the circumstances might be different, if you can convince them they made an exception previously, I bet you get a refund. If not, ask your guide to send you some park passes, they do have access to these for use in certain situations. 4-8 park days would be better than nothing. Heck, even if they give you the refund, I'd ask for 4 tickets for your trouble.

I am not mistaken and we did not leave a deposit.

Your guide is misinformed (at best) or lying. They may be more stringent on the rules now...but we were able to get the discount last October after we came home from our trip. We took the tour and talked to the guide (different from our official guide, since he is semi retired). We did not leave any kind of deposit. DH wanted to do it...I wanted to wait and save the cash.

I don't remember exactly which day we called back...I'd guess day 5 or 6. I know it was after the deadline...because we discussed it with the guide on the phone. He said he would check with a manager and let them know we took the tour on our last day of vacation and some other excuse (needed time to think, etc.). We also increased the number of points we wanted to purchase from 160 to 200. He called back within a few minutes and it was a go. We did the deposit over the phone.

I'll be glad to send a PM with our names so that you can have a reference. The guide we spoke to that day was Mike (sorry I don't have his last name anymore)...I've never seen him listed as a great guide on this board.

FWIW...I wouldn't let anyone bully me into buying. If they didn't give me the discount, I wouldn't have bought that day. I didn't even have to tell them that.

Here's your old thread on this issue:

Dean,
Dh said our guide seemed completely disgusted when he realized the call was about this isssue. I mean I would persue this further if I had names.

I was so worked up about this when it first happened. Obviously we can afford the $750 (that was the discount had you bouht in the 3 day window) since we did buy anyway but if it wasn't being applied evenly throughout to everyone then why should some be held to it and others not? That is what gets my goat.

Katie,
You rock! I feel so bad that my Dh felt like a ******* but this will vindicate us LOL

We had a 13-day or so time frame instead of the standard 3-day. Our guide was going to be on vacation and I told him there was no way I was going to make that kind of decision within 3 days. He told us the 3 day rule was very strict but got his manager to approve it till he got back from vacation.

HTH.

Sherri :)
(we never ended up buying, we went resale instead.)

See this is what burns me up. If it is strict then don't lie and say it never it happens! I mean our guide swears it never gets extended. After my call today I will let you know what happens. I asked him numerous times if the time could be extended because of working out a loan. It wasn't even like I was on the fence about things. I was honest with him I just wanted that in return.

My guide had told me that the 3-day window was strict, but if I needed a few extra days, that all I had to do was let her know that I wanted a few days within the 3-day window (i.e., call in the three days, and say I need more time), and she would be able to extend it. I didn't put a deposit down for at LEAST 2 weeks after the tour.

Things to keep in mind-- these are salespeople, with an objective to bring in revenue. If they think someone is going to buy, sure they'll say three days and stick to it. But, if they see that someone really wants to buy, and they are just a little unsure, if they think an extra week will make a difference between a sale or no sale, of course they are going to extend it. It's a business.
