SPOILERS welcome!! Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows movie - Part 2

Totally right there with you. I kept waiting like, he's gonna fix it right now... maybe now... wait here comes the Elder Wand... and DO WHA?????????!!!!!

Crap.

With regards to the B word, there's no way my kids have lived in our house for 8 years and not heard it. I am sure if I stub my toe they have heard worse.

Also, the 19 years later scene, anyone notice how they didn't really age them that much? Chronologically I am the same age as Harry, Hermione & Ron and trust me everybody from my graduating class looks at least a bit more different. Hermione looked like she changed her hair style and that was about it. Added some crows feet on Harry, and lopped off Ginny's hair. But, I was a bit underwhelmed by the aging in that scene. Maybe it's MAGIC? :wizard: Who knows. LOL.

Wizards and witches live longer than Muggles, so perhaps they age slower as well. Just a thought! :)

I stayed away from this thread until I got to see the movie. Finally made it to a matinee today. LOVED IT!

I went into all of these movies knowing that they would make changes and omissions from the books, so I'm okay with all of that. Even the parts that do not make complete sense to the non-readers.

I just want to say Alan Rickman is fantastic, Sorcerer's Stone to Deathly Hallows, just amazing. I hope he is recognized for his performance. I couldn't stop the tears during the Pensieve memory scene. Heartbreaking.

And I actually enjoyed the lengthy final fight sequence. My one (minor) complaint with the book was Harry "hiding" under his cloak through the entire final sequence, so I loved this.

I did think he should have repaired his wand before breaking the elder wand. It wouldn't have taken long so I don't know why it had to be cut??

Ah well, I still loved it and am soooo dissapointed that it's all over with. I wonder how many years I'll have to wait for another such epic book/movie series. I enjoyed Twilight and Hunger Games and Percy Jackson, but nothing comes close to JKR's fantastic adventure.

For those who are looking for a little more Harry Potter, my sis pointed me toward FanFiction.net which has a fan-written story called Dumbledore's Army and the Year of Darkness. I haven't gotten that far into it, but it's well written and I'm enjoying it so far. It tells the story of the final year at Hogwarts and the activities of Neville, Ginny and the other students. It's one last taste of my all-time favorite book series. Check it out....

GREAT MOVIE. What a ride. I'm sad it's over, but it what an incredible journey.

I liked it. It was a really good movie. But there were just so many things that could have been better.

As others have said, it's not so much what was left out (though they could have made it about a half hour longer and put in just a few of those things), as what was changed. It just really took some of the punch out of it for me.

Exactly, it was a really good movie...very emotional but not the right time (the final of 8) to change items that had been consistent throughout the books and movies. The memories of Snape were collected form his tears??? Those tears were moving but the memories could have still been collected as they were so many times throughout the series. :confused3 Visually the castle was off and all the scenes from that bridge were annoying to me. Oh, and when did they get a boat house at Hogwarts? What was wrong with shrieking shack. It would have brought in the whomping willow tree...a familiar sight in many of the movies. I also agree with so many about the wand. How cool would it have been for the movie to have showed the scene in Dumbledore's office? Overall a little more dialogue and not changing scenes at the whim of creativity (who could be more creative than J.K. Rowling)!?

I admit I'm not a HP fanatic. I read all the books when they were published and I've seen all the movies when they were released. But only once each.

I never even THOUGHT of Harry's wand when he snapped the other one in half. When did he lose his own wand? And why can't he just get a new one?

Things like this are just non-issues to me. I thought the movie was good. The opening scene was super slow, though, and the business with Dumbledore's sister was confusing and pointless.

There were a lot of distractions, however, in my theater, including a fussy infant (who started getting loud during the SUPER quiet "afterlife" scene at King's Cross. So I may need to watch again.

With all of the loud explosions and battle scenes in the movie, it was in the most quiet scene in the movie when someone a few seats down had their cell phone go off. Whoops. :)

We got to see it in the matinee today. I thought I was ready: I admit, I cried through about 2/3rds of the book the first time I read it. I'd just gotten over Hedgewig when BAM there goes Dobby. Then I was just getting over Dobby when BAM BAM BAM, Snape gets it and then Harry finds out what Snape was really up to. I howled through the rest of the book.

But I re-read it, cried less, have listened to the book on CD in my car a couple of times and not cried (much).

I was in tears the moment I laid eyes on Rickman at Hogwarts, and full-fledged crying as soon as Harry entered the pensive.

And I didn't like Snape AT ALL until the 6th book when I finally bought a clue that Snape was a good guy! And honestly, I didn't cry much when Dumbledore bought the farm. But Snape? His life and death will forever move me.

Agree with PPs -- Loved the books, liked the movies - really didn't like the final confrontation scene. Voldemort died without knowing that Harry was the true owner of the Elder Wand, that Snape had loved Lily, and that Snape had worked against Voldemort since he'd threatened Harry's parents. He also didn't receive Harry's admonition about trying for some "remorse".

And can anyone tell me why Hogsmeade, when they returned, was full of SNOW? As far as I can tell, it was supposed to be at least May or June (Ginny was home for the Easter holidays when Harry and Co. arrived at Shell Cottage), and there were several weeks of planning for the Gringott's break-in.

I thought the final train scene (19 years later) was good. I didn't mind that they weren't aged much -- don't wizards/witches age slower than Muggles? I think Dumbledore was supposed to be 150 or so.

ITA! It just seemed to be such a SAD life!! I mean at first you think he's just mean and evil and then you find out he's heroric and sad. Very heartwrenching. To love someone from childhood and NEVER have that love returned--just very sad. And again, Alan Rickman was just so fantastic at that role for 8 movies!

As I recall, in the books Voldy never knows that Snape betrayed him - It's part and parcel of this whole idea that Voldy never sees how he is constantly undermined by the power of Love - not just Lily's love for Harry, but how Snape's love for Lily made him betray V, and how Narcissa's love for Draco makes her betray V in the "Is Potter dead?" scene.

Yes, he did, at the very end. During the "final showdown" Harry tells Voldemort something to the effect that Snape wasn't his, he was Dumbledore's "from the moment you started hunting down my mother."

That was bloody brilliant! I laughed, I cried, I don't even know where to start!

The Molly scene, the the theater erupted into applause and cheers. Same for when Nevell kills Nagini.

The death of Snape, violent yet unfortunately had to happen. And the scenes of Harry going through Snape's memories in the pensive, I cried like a baby. They did a brilliant job of showing Snape's true character and Alan Rickman was just amazing!

I really wish they had kept the scene at the end where Harry talks to Dumbledore's picture in the headmaster's office explaining what happened to the resurrection stone and him putting the Elder wand back with Dumbledore's body.

My thoughts exactly. :thumbsup2

I found it odd that they spent so much time having the snake chase everyone around at the end and didn't have Harry repair his wand or talk to Dumbledore in his office to tell him about the stone. I mentioned this to DH and he said that he wonders what will be in the director's cut.

2 hours 10 min is 130 min - maybe someone misread that as 1 hr 30 min?

M.

That's what I figure happened.

Saw the movie in IMAX 3D Saturday night and am so glad I did. I agree with most of the comments about what was omitted, although I sort of understand why some things that play out well in a book may not translate as well to the screen (a la the whole Neville/sword/Nagini storyline.) Trying to look at it objectively as if I never read the books, the only thing that really stood out as odd was how Luna was at the house on the beach and then showed up at Hogwarts ahead of Harry, Ron and Hermione.

The crowd in our showing was not as animated as what I've read here about other experiences with the showing of the movie. I was hoping for a more raucous reaction when Mrs. Weasley uttered the famous line. I know I applauded, but I swear the guy that was sitting next to my wife was sniffling quite audibly at some of the ending scenes, and I don't think it was just allergies ;)

Are you in MD...lol...I had the exact thing happen Saturday morning :/
