Splitting Resort Charges

My GF and I are going down this weekend and we'd like to split the cost amongst our two credit cards. Is there any easy way to do this? We booked online, so can't yet pay off the room. Can they put part of the charges (to that point) on one card at the concierge desk? At the very least, can we pay off the balance of the room charge at checkin?

You can put one main card as the Hold.

Then use anything you want to pay it down during the trip. We do this with our Rewards card so I don't see why it couldn't be done with another CC.

Ok, sounds good. Do you know if we can pay off the room at checkin? I would think so, but just checking.

You MUST pay all room and tax at check-in. It is not a big problem to split the cost on two cards...though some desk clerks have a harder time with this than others. :rolleyes1

What you cannot do is have 2 different room keys attached to two different credit cards. If you leave A credit card at the desk as back-up, you can use your room key to charge things back to your room in the parks. :) But all the cards in the room must be attached to that same credit card - can't have yours attached to your card and your girlfriend's attached to hers.

You could leave your card and get charging privledges on your room key, but NO charging privleges on hers.

Or you could leave no card and have no charging privledges for anyone.

Does that make all make sense?

Perfect sense. Just making sure that we could have them charge part of the room charges (part way through) to a card that was NOT the hold card. I'll probably pay off the room charge when we get there and then leave her card on hold.

Just an idea that works for my sister and I when we meet each year. I usually cover the hotel costs then she takes care of the meals and snacks (or cocktails;) ) until we're even. Can't wait to see her in Nov. Have fun:)

I always book using my credit card. MY mom always pays half so when we get to the resort we do a split payment source. She uses her credit card and then i use whatever rewards i have from my Disney Visa Rewards card and then for the remainder I use my credit card. I have never had a problem.

I add charging privledges with my credit card to my room key, but no one else has that on theirs.

Well I, the OP's GF, doesn't like this plan. I don't like to carry my cc around the parks, and well I like to shop. having charging privileges is one of my favorite Disney perks.

We do split stuff all the time. When you check in, (have it figured out in advance) tell the person at the desk to charge xx.xx to one credit card, then charge the remainder to the next card. Then whichever of you is more comfortable, leave a CC for room key priveledges. Each of you charge your personal charges to the room key. Then every couple of days, go by the front desk and get a printout of your room charges. They don't add them up, but each card has a unique number and you can add up who charged what. Then go by the front desk again and each pay whatever you owe with your personal CC.

Also, like another poster stated, most of the time I have split charges is when friends visit me for part of my two week Ft. Wilderness trip. I just put the room bill and room charges all on my card and right before they leave, we figure out what their share is and we go up to the front desk and they pay that amount on their credit card. Then I put my card back on the account as the guarantee and finish out my trip.

If you are staying at a Value Resort, you need to do this every couple of days because that $500 limit adds up fast, but if you are staying at a Moderate ($1000 limit), or Deluxe ($1500 limit), every four days or the night before you check out is sufficient.

Fortunately (or unfortunately, depending on your view) we try not to spend that much so we shouldn't have to worry about the charging limit. :)

I guess I was thinking about our last big Value Resort trip. Two rooms at All-Star Music with 2 adults and 4 adult teenagers. With all 6 of us charging to the room, it seemed like we bumped up on that limit every other day. But then again, we always had one good sit down meal every day and each of those meals was almost $200, then you add a counter service for 6 and the two adults having an adult beverage or two every night, and $500 comes quick.

Great thread! :thumbsup2 DBF and I are visiting in July and will be staying at POP for only 2 days of our trip. Mom decided she would like to come visit for a few days so will pay for the room an additional 2 nights on her card, and our balance is already paid for our two nights. You saved me the trouble of asking, thanks! :goodvibes
