I just read that Bell Services will no longer transfer perishables between split stays. Does anyone else feel like this is directly aimed at DVC specifically, considering those us of staying at DVC are the most likely to have perishables?

Don't take it personally. It has been a issue for sometime.
Resorts just don't have resource's to take items directly to another resort. Items are loaded up for several resorts and delivered/droped off 60-90 minutes later.

Oh wow! i planned a two week split stay next month expecting this service to be available. I even called last week to confirm all in good order.
Did the article specify an end date?

You'll have to transport your perishables yourself, but the new resort bell Services will accept them and store them in appropriate places until you call for them after your room is ready.

The policy not to transport items needing refrigeration is already in effect.

And yet they did it without complaint (from them) for over 25 years I know of.
Yes, but the obviously increasing number of DVC Guests and resorts between which they need to transport perishables has grown quite a bit. I'm thinking non-Villa guests without full kitchens don't have as many perishables, and don't change resorts as much.

I think they had spoilage issues that had many guests angry along the way, and add in staffing issues and it was an easy cut.
Plus some guests were including medications that need refrigeration. Why would Disney want to accept responsibility for that? Way better to take a PR hit for eliminating the service than the resulting consequences of a failure.

FWIW, I would not ever expect anyone else to keep my meds safe. And yes traveling with meds that need refrigeration can be a hassle. But I'm the one who suffers if something happens, so it's better for me to put up with the hassle & inconvenience, than someone who may not understand (or care about) the risk!

Besides, it can apparently take 3 hours to load up stuff, stop and load up other stuff, get there, unload stuff, etc, etc. Do you want your milk in Florida heat for 3 hours? I'd much prefer they do this than not tell me how long my dairy wasn't refrigerated. Triple that for medications.

Does anyone know if this applies to all groceries, or just to things that need refrigeration?

We have always transported all our luggage ourselves. I've heard too many horror stories of people waiting until 8 pm to get their luggage.

Just ordered a back-pack cooler bag. I will just head over to my next DVC with it the morning before I check in and have them put the stuff in refrigerated storage until I check in.

Good luck with that. It will be interesting to hear if they even have anywhere to store refrigerated items any longer.

What about intra-resort transfers? Like if you have two different rooms int he same hotel? I’ve got one of these coming up in February at BLT so I’m curious. I know I have to check out of the first one by 11 and the second one won’t be ready until 4…

They'll take your perishables and store them in the fridge/freezer there at the resort and then bring/give them back to you when you get into your new room. The only thing they stopped doing is transporting from one resort to another, because they can't keep things cold while they're in transit.

I am glad I saw this. I will be at WDW in 2 weeks with a spilt stay and no car.

I am going to use Instacart for the first time, now I think I will maybe do two small orders for my stay. Or pack a small insulation bag for a couple of cold items.
Last November we drove with a spilt stay so we moved everything g ourselves.

😎👍🏻
