Split stay or not ?

When its just DH and I, we like split stays as well for a couple of reasons. Like Sandi said above, we plan our park days around where we are staying to minimize bus transportation. We have a VGF/RIV stay this fall and hope to do a Halloween party at MK and just walk back to VGF and then we will move to RIV for Epcot and Studios.

I also use split stays to manage our points by staying in a studio the first 3-4 days and moving to a 1BR the last 3-4 days. It’s hard to move to a smaller room, so we upgrade with the move. Plus I can use the washer/dryer to do laundry without having to drag the suitcase of clothes to the facilities. We have a few smaller contracts in different use years and save our larger contracts for family trips every other year, so I usually need to book separate reservations anyways using the different memberships to avoid needing to transfer points.

With just two of us, we manage the packing by combining stuff for each leg of the trip into one bag instead of using separate bags for each of us. Kids are young adults now, but they still are messy and don't keep up with their stuff. Not sure that I would do a split stay on the family trips, but would consider it if we could snag a Gravd Villa for a couple of nights.

Help! I am so torn by this. Right now my Dis son (17) and I have a 6 night stay - 2 nights BLT studio lake view and 4 nights BWV studio boardwalk view. I have a waiting list for the first 2 nights to switch to the full stay to the Boardwalk but now I am thinking maybe staying 2 nights at BLT would be nice to mix it up and also walk to MK and monorail - etc
Our plans are -
Feb 20 arrive- maybe disney springs or chill at resort - dinner at Jiko (trying to get steakhouse 71 for my son who loves 🥩
Feb 21 AK - dinner at Poly - Kona -at night
Feb 22 MK ( Dinner at Tutto Italia) would have to move this day)
Feb 23 Epcot (dinner at Tempan edo)
Feb 24 HS (Dinner at Chefs France)
Feb 25 MK (dinner at tempan edo again.. )
Feb 26 brunch at beach club and leave
I am so excited but torn if I will
Have regret if my wait list by chance comes through.
any and all thoughts and suggestions on my plans welcome! 😃
We love split stays! We will actually be doing one the same time! We’ll be coming from universal but might be neighbors! We are transferring to boardwalk on the 23rd in a boardwalk view also :)
We will be at Riv before universal, life I said we love the split stays lol. Usually try to do at least 3 days per resort as far as dvc goes but I don’t think you would regret 2 days at BLT.

Not a fan unless necessary/no choice. I like to unpack and get settled in. Since I am the type that takes the whole house, I would hate to pack, unpack again. Will I have a car to leave some things in the car? Leave it with bell services. Even though we can be at the park, we can be homeless until 4 pm or so.

BUT - we sort of do - since 50% of the time, we add a stay at Vero Beach, Hilton Head or in the past, a cruise. Plus we do stay overnight on the road each way if we are driving.....so, it is a hassle for me/us.

Last year and coming up, our Winter/early Spring trip is a long one 10 nights. We are also staying at Vero 6 nights. Next time, I should try it at least once and split our 10 nights just to mix it up/stay at another resort. I like to stay at different ones, DH, not so much. Something to think about.

Enjoy it it if you do decide. Don't over think it like I do :tilt: and go with it!!!

We’ve done split stays for 3 of our last 4 trips. We liked it for the ability to check out other resorts, but with our current stay, we’re not sure if the hassle of moving in the middle of a trip is worth it. It might be an age thing, as our bodies take longer to recover from going from 0 to 60. Also, our home resort is growing even more on us and we’re not sure we want to stay anywhere else.

I like split stays because I want to experience all the different themed resorts HOWEVER there is a BIG difference in 4 nights vs 6 nights at a hotel. That’s a 50% increase in nights in an already short trip. And 2 nights in BLT only gives you 1 full day at the resort. Plus the fact that you may be out at the parks or other resorts all day?
its more hassle then it’s worth unless you REALLY want to try BLT.

And don’t forget, the room is the only thing you can’t experience if you don’t stay there. you can still visit BLT and hang out there if you want to. So look at the room pictures and video to see if it’s something you want more then the boardwalk.

I love them. It's the only way you get to experience all the different resorts. It might get old someday, but right now I enjoy it. My extended family not so much. They have two little ones and it's a hassle to them, but I'm trip planner (and it's my points) so I win. I always offer to put them at Saratoga for the week. 😁

Split stays are great! It’s like separate vacations built into one. Especially when you have your park days set to take advantage of the proximity of the resort. I do however prefer half and half or at least a 3 night minimum.

I am wrapping up two nights at BLT after two at BWV. This was perfect for us and our next stay in May will be a BCV (our favorite!) and Poly split. I hate taking the buses and ubering to MK isn't great either. This trip I rented a car and it has been great. Anyway I'm now a huge fan of the MK and boardwalk area resorts split.
