Split Stay...dining plan question?

Not sure if this belongs here or elsewhere since it involves dining and resorts!

We are going to have a split stay on our next trip. We'll be at Pop the entire time, but the first part is full rate from 12/28-1/2. Then from 1/2-1/8 we'll still be at Pop, but we'll get the AP room discount.
So my question is this: since my reservation is split, can I do the dining plan for just part of the stay? For instance, I'd like to have the regular ddp for the dates of 12/28 - 1/2. After that I don't need it....I might consider the QS plan though if we can do it that way.

Can anyone help?

Since you don't have the AP rate for the first part of your stay, you will have to buy a one day ticket for everyone in the room. You won't have to do that when you switch over to the AP rate.

I'm confused...why would I need to buy a ticket just because we are paying rack rate for the room?

I think paying rack rate you can book the ticketless AP package with dining. I'm pretty sure that is the stipulation - rack rate or AP rate and then you can book that.

The dining plans are always sold as part of a package, so w/ rack rate you would need to buy at least 1 day tix to be able to get a dining plan. Since you have an AP rate for part 2 of your stay, Reservations can modify that to a ticket-less package so that you CAN add a dining plan if you choose. Clear as mud?

Clear I guess but I was under the impression that AP holders could always add the dining plan to their reservation whether they were staying on a discount or not.

Room only reservations can not have the dining plan.

AP rooms can have the dining plan.

So, the full rack rate dates won't be able to have the dining plan unless you add a one day ticket. There is no saying that you actually have to use the ticket. You can save it for when you renew your annual pass.

Hope that helps.

:)

Ok so then how does this work...
I have an Ap. my dd has an AP. My son and my mom (who is most likely coming) do not have APs so we will be buying tickets for them. Does that throw any other kinks into the dp plan?

I'm not convinced that everything said in this thread is correct - it is my understanding (from reading the boards) that you can add the dining plan without buying tickets when you are an AP holder (so the AP ticketless package) if you are staying on an AP rate OR if you are paying rack rate. At one time, I thought it was only if you had an AP rate, but I was repeatedly corrected by others here saying that rack rate rooms were eligible as well.

It is correct that you can't add dining to room-only, but you should be able to change your rack rate room to the ticketless AP package to get the dining. Call and ask if you can get the AP ticketless package with dining when paying rack rate for your room.

As to your other question - whatever you end up doing - on the AP ticketless package, the other parties in your room do not need to have APs or buy tickets to be included on the DDP for the room. They can buy their tickets separately.

You can log onto the Passholder part of the WDW website and book a ticketless package without using an AP rate. You can do exactly what you want to do: have a room+DDP package for the first part of your stay, and if you want, a room+QSDP package for the second part of your stay. Regular package rules will apply: you'll have to pay $200 deposit on each, and both will be due in full 45 days from arrival. Only one person per room needs to have an AP so you can get regular tickets for the other members of the group.

The only time an AP holder has to buy a ticket to get the dining plan is if the AP holder books the package under some sort of GP discount - free dining, GP room only, 4-for-3, or the like. If the AP holder is booking a room rack rate, the CM can turn it into a ticketless package with dining.

Thanks for the help. I had to call today to update some info so I asked about the dining and this is what I was told:
I can add dining with an AP, no problem. Since my stay is split into two (rack rate and then AP discount) I can add it to only one half of my stay, or for the whole thing...and I can change it too. So what I think we'll do is the regular TS dining plan for the first part of our stay (during the NYE madness...hey, we'll have a table, lol), and then for the second part of our stay (with the Ap room rate) we'll do the QS plan.
I think that will work best for us because we won't want to sit down for 2 hour meals everyday, but 11 days of QS would get old fast! This way we have 5 days on the TS plan, then 6 days on the QS plan. :thumbsup2
