Yeah down on the Louisiana bayou... classic Frontierland.
Just like the south during Reconstruction?

Maybe they will, and Disney will deal with it at that point. Societal norms change over time and the parks adapt to that. This isn’t a new phenomenon. Can you honestly not see the problem with the IP that Splash Mountain is based on? It’s my favorite ride in Magic Kingdom, but I understand why it has to change.

Not really.
Uh, I hate to break it to you but the south was not the "frontier" during Reconstruction.Yeah down on the Louisiana bayou... classic Frontierland.

Tom Sawyer's Island takes place in Missouri, and then in Huckleberry Finn, Huckleberry and Big Jim sail down the Mississippi River on a raft through Kentucky and Arkansas. What did Brer Rabbit & company have to do with Frontierland? They’re from Song of the South. That didn’t make sense in Frontierland either ... interesting that people don’t think Princess & the Frog fits when the Splash story isn’t cohesive with Frontierland either.
Cool. Br'er Rabbit, Br'er Fox, Br'er Bear don't have "Frontier" accents. Where, exactly, on the "frontier" do you propose that they lived? Utah perhaps? The story of SotS is not part of Splash.
I mean I just watched the "Going down the Bayou" song/scene...that would be an AMAZING part of ride!
It was released prior to the construction of Splash Mountain to get feedback. Was Song of the South re-released at any point in the 80’s? I have a memory of seeing it in the theatre, but I wasn’t around for the original release, lol. Just trying to figure out if remembering it wrong.
There’s a reason why the movie has been buried by Disney. It’s because the movie is racist. I understand that a lot of people love this ride. I’m one of them, it’s my favorite ride in Magic Kingdom. I also understand that there are a lot of people who are uncomfortable with having the ride in the park because of the movie’s racist roots. No one should be made to feel uncomfortable in the Magic Kingdom because of this ride. It’s time for it to change. The problem is that Disney hasn't released this movie in the US for a very long time. I don't know anyone who has seen it. I had trouble finding a copy to watch.
The narrative is like: we have this movie that you haven't seen in a very long time or ever that might offend you, so we're changing the ride that we based on it in case you dig up this movie and find it offensive.
Now, you have a whole bunch of people that have fond memories of riding this ride, but most probably haven't seen the movie it's based on. Disney is telling them that they're changing their ride because of a movie that they can't even buy.
And folks wonder why people on Twitter are angry.
I thought the same thing! ... I saw someone else post that the big drop could be around to go/out of the Other Side
Obviously the showboat scene becomes a Mardi Gras scene
Let's get on this! Who can we call???
Ok, I must have seen it in 86. I think I had the album on record, too.Yes it was. 80 and 86. I also saw it in the theater, had the album and sing-a-long book.
As you get to the top of the lift they should pay "almost there"
And throw beignets at our heads while we drop!!!...wait....
Yes, it was released in the 80's and parts shown on TV as recently as 2000. Seems crazy, right?
