splash mountain: lap bars now installed

Yes.

HERE is that new "lap bar" video with the first two logs shown having 3 per row.

They happen to each be in the 4th (last) row of each of those logs.
But, since there's nothing unique about row 4 (except that it's usually DRYER ;) )
I figure that if you and your riding partners were small enough, you could sit 3-across in
any of the rows.

:flower3: Thank you for the link. Imagine that, even with the lap bar people are having fun. No big deal afterall. :wizard:

Why would a lap bar mess up a ride? :lmao: Sorry I can only laugh at that.

If a stranger's kid can still get under the lap bar and sit next to me and proceed to talk to me like he knows me, they can!! :rotfl:

Anyway, I went on it several times and I'm a pretty chunky girl and I was not uncomfortable. My friend who is a guy and taller than me who has had trouble fitting in the boats in the past did not find the lap bars to be any more/less comfortable.

If anything, it adds another element to the ride as the rubber handles are now gone and the lap bars are like all the others in the parks - not exactly a snug fit. For those who were in the habit of riding and holding onto the convenient handles, you'll feel a bit different going down the drop! (I was a handle-holder, but not because I was holding on for dear life - I'm just not a hands in the air type of person, so figuring out what to do with my hands now has been a bit of an issue. LOL)

I still enjoyed the ride just as much once I got past the little bits and pieces in the ride that weren't fixed.

Well being that I'm over 6 foot tall and the six pack abs have expanded to include a keg, it's just a greater chance of the bar... um.... ahhh.... causing me to sing soprano by the time I get off the ride. :lmao:

Any word on how the lap bars fit for Pooh-sized people? While I understand why Disney installed lap bars, I am afraid that I won't be comfortable, or worse - won't fit. I've never had a problem on any other ride, but I'm still a bit nervous!

Would like a report back on large sized riders for this - now worried I will fit!

Would love to know as well.
Splash Mountain is my favorite ride, and I loved the fact that there were no restraints.

The ride was not designed for lap bars.
The ride ran for decades without lap bars.
Lap bars are an "add-on" which will be a compromise, at best.

The load/unload-time will be slowed, so the lines will be longer, and the FP's can run out sooner.

And, has been discussed in other threads, it is likely that larger/taller guests may not fit as well or as comfortably (or at all) with the added-on bars and mechanisms.

Also, if the ride does E-Stop (emergency stop,) will some guests be able to open the bars and make an emergency exit without a CM to assist.

I don't like the idea of being "locked into" a water ride.

Also, with the many guests who want to ride with their smaller kids (tall enough to ride, but still young) in the same seat, the car capacity will likely be more limited than before.

With any kind of change, "unintended consequences" can pop up.

I agree totally

I have often seen people at the top of SM, making that outside turn back inside the ride, standing up and waving down to their friends and family below ..... I wonder if that's why Disney decided to add the lap bars.

If nothing else I just like the idea of having something to hold onto. Especially when I'm trying to keep my hand steady for a video! :lmao:

I'm taking a first timer in September this year and even though she's older (19) she's never been on a ride like this (or a theme park at all) and I know for a fact that she'll appreciate having a lapbar so she can hold it and feel safer.

Really I don't see what the big deal is with people always saying Ruined Forever and what not. :sad2: It's Disney World! Either enjoy it for the wonderful experience it is or get out of the way of those that do. I.E. ME. :cool1:

Exactly.

I probably won't be able to ride it with my daughter since my tummy sticks out.

What are the height requirements now that the lap bars are in? It was 40 inches, is it still the same? DD is only 2 and will be 3 1/2 next May when we take her for her first trip. She already wants to ride!! I am hoping she will be 40 inches by the time we go. I am tracking her height on her closet wall!
