Splash Mountain -- How Wet?

I"ve heard that riders get soaked on the Kali River ride at AK, but what about the Splash Mountain ride? How wet? What do you do with your stuff? Do you need water shoes?

Any other such wet rides (besides the Water Parks?)

The front riders do get wet. I usually sit in the middle or back and haven't gotten very wet at all. Just hold on to your stuff!!

And watershoes? (Climbing up any steps to the ride or getting off of it, etc?)

After my Oct 2002 front seat experience, I'll definitely wear water shoes/sandals AND a rain poncho. The only part of my body that was not completely soaked was one little spot under my left arm where DD had buried her head during the final drop.:p

As for my stuff...I just take large ziplocks for anything that I don't want to get wet. My backpack actually provides all the protection I need for most things, but the ziplocks just add peace of mind (use them for camera, socks, etc). I've never lost anything on SM, but as with all other rides I always put my legs through the straps of my bag and tuck it under my knees.

My experiences are....front row tends to be wetter than other rows. However, the seats on the right side of the log tend to get wet also. There is a waterfall on the right side of the attraction. Sometimes, okay almost everytime, the log gets stopped right at the waterfall. If you scrunch way over to the left side of the log you won't get as wet. That seems to be the area I always get soaked!! But, never as much as Kali!! As far as my belongings go, I have my stuff bagged in a ziploc bag inside my fanny pack. If you don't want to get your fanny wet, I would recommend wearing a poncho and sitting on it. My fanny always gets wet from the already wet seat!!! Feet aren't too big an issue. I just jam them way up front.

I did get quite wet the times I have been on Splash Mountain, seems no matter where I sit.. I did notice many wearing the rain ponchos.. probably a good idea. We have shyed away from Splash if it is particularly cool weather as there is nothing worse than wet pants and shirt walking around the Magic Kingdom. Best to be prepared.

If you sit on the right, the waterfall might get you, but it's not too bad. However, if you happen to be in the wrong place (or right place if it's a really hot day) at the right time...the splash from the log behind you will get you as you turn the corner.

Sounds wet and fun! I think we'll do the ponchos (sitting on them), ziplocks.

Only one mentioned the need for watershoes. Did you shoes get wet?

No, we were wet mostly from the waist up. After you ride 4 times in a row, it's kinda hard to remember, though....

I've never gotten wet, but I've never sat in front.

I get more wet from sitting on the seat than the ride itself.:teeth:

Front Right is the wettest, back left is the dryest... Unless you ride with me up front (235 lbs), then EVERYBODY gets soaked to the skin even with ponchos, and the boat has 6" of water in it until it drains out :)

Also, on cooler days they turn down the water effects so people don't get as wet.

When I go to WDW I ride Splash Mountain over and over and over and have never really gotten wet, maybe a little misted, hair a little wet, but not bad, not at all like Kali River Rapids where I had to buy a new shirt b/c I didn't feel like looking like I was in a wet t-shirt contest. I've never ridden in the very front seat however. I wouldn't think you would need water shoes for this ride.

I love this thread, because our most memorable (and, unfortunately, negative) experience on our last trip happened on Splash. We rode it several times throughout the week and were barely touched by the water, so on our final day there, my husband decided to videotape it with our new camera. Unfortunately, we hadn't experienced the ride from the front seats before, and had no idea what was in store for us ...needless to say, we were soaked to the bone - seriously, I have never gotten so wet on a ride. (We always wear ponchos on Kali, because I hate walking around wet.) This was our last ride before going back to the hotel to get our suitcases, and we didn't even have time to change clothes before heading to the airport. Unfortunately, it completely ruined our new camera. When we finally got another one and watched the tape, it was pretty funny ...you hear the laughing place music, then the water roaring, then a lot of garbled cursing, then the screen goes black. So in my experience, yes, Splash is WET.

If I remember correctly, my sneakers/socks were wet mostly due to water run off from my clothes/skin.....that's how soaked I was! This may not sound so bad to some, but I promise you that my socks were so wet that I would've been miserable if I would've stayed in them the rest of the day. I was just so glad we had already decided to head back to our villa at OKW before we jumped in line for this ride. ::yes::

Wet? you bet....DH and I were in the front row last Oct. when we were at WDW...it was a last minute switch as on of the D-GS...who isnt that crazy about SM...was about to be put in the front row by a CM.. (not her fault really)...I can tell you we were soaked and i had my eyes closed as we went down and the pressure sent water into my eyes....think that was the frist time for me in the front row.....make sure your hat and glasses are off..i wont go into detail on that one........

Hey, can I get a copy of that tape? or at least the relevant section? I'd like to clip it and stream it with the cursing faded out. Sounds like a cool thing to have for the DIS.

DD and I were in the front and got soaked. She had a backpack with her and the outside got a bit wet but stuff inside stayed dry. If you are going to sit in the front I would suggest that you wear ponchos. I am taking my oldest granddaughter to WDW in Dec and I desided that I would skip Splash Maountain because I really don't enjoy walking around in wet clothes. Well, my DS calls and tells me the one ride that Tori really wants to go on is...you guessed it, Splash Mountain. Will definitely bring ponchos to wear and try not to get stuck in the front. I really do like the ride otherwise. It's great to ride it after dark especially as you go up that last incline before the drop.:wave2:
