Splash mountain drop question

My dd really wants me to ride SM with her. My dh always has but she wants me to try it.

I do NOT like drops. BTMRR and Space Mountain do not bother me. The drop on Splash Mountain looks steep from standing in front of it but when I watched a video on youtube it did not seem too bad.

I was on another flume ride at 6 flags 20 years ago and that drop really bothered me!

So I would love other's opinions please:)

I hate drops.

The drop on pirates is small, (and angled differently than pirates) so it's not bad. It still makes me feel like I left my stomach at the top though. I rode Splash once with my daughter and vowed never to do it again. Big drops aren't for me.

Although it looks like it's straight down, it's my understanding that the drop on Splash Mountain is only a 45 degree angle. Not nearly as steep as it looks! Go for it! I don't much like drops either, but this is not too bad at all.

I hate drops too. Splash looks worse than it is. I always get nervous before riding and then after the drop always think that's it?

I agree with kytiam, Splash Mountains drop is not nearly as bad as it looks. I rode it for the first time last September after avoiding in on previous trips and it really isn't bad at all. I remember saying "wow that was nothing" and the ride itself leading up to the drop is quite special.

It looks worse than it really is. I was afraid my 4 year old would be scared but he insisted on doing it and ended up loving it. He keeps asking if he can do it again. I wouldn't take him on a lot of the rides at DL but SM seems pretty tame to me. I think you should try it...just once. Maybe you will love it too! Plus it sounds like it would make DD happy to have you try. :)

My 6 year old LOVES splash mountain. That being said, I love drops, and I can tell you, I feel like I leave my stomach at the top for the final drop. If you don't like that, I wouldn't ride it.

I don't like drops either. What I used to do was close my eyes going down the last drop and open them about halfway down; eventually got used to it and don't do that anymore.

I have motion sickness and roller coasters and log flumes always get me, especially Rockin roller Coaster and space mountain. I still do on them for DS12, but dread it. TOT forget about it, never again. As for Splash Mountain I don't think it is that bad. The drop gives you that stomach feeling like it has left your body, but overall for me who is sensitive to roller coasters and thrill rides, it is not all that bad. I go on several times while in MK.

The drop is big, but go on it anyway. Sacrifice those 2 seconds of drop for many minutes of a great ride.

It really is a wonderful ride leading up to the big drop. It's worth the try!

I think you'll enjoy it :thumbsup2

The drop is more scarier looking at it then when you are actually on it. I don't like free fall type rides (I hate ToT and will never do that one again), but I LOVE Splash. The ride itself is a beautiful ride with a wonderful song. If you can handle Space Mountain or BTMRR, then you will definitely be able to handle Splash. Disney does a great job making it look more intense then it really is. Here is a thing to remember....try it once (for your DDs sake) and if you don't like it, don't do it again :goodvibes. Have fun.

I am one of the worst ride chickens ever. I haven't ridden Splash is years and I walk by it several times a week. That said - Splash is worth it to ride once. It really is. The inside is beautiful. Even if you know you'll hate the big drop (and the smaller ones inside) you should still ride it to see it.

You never know. You might be one of the "it isn't that bad" people. ;)

I'm not a big thrill ride guy either, but I made up my mind the last time to try Splash and Space. The drop on Splash happens quickly and its over before you know it. However, if you really hate drops, you'll spend the entire ride thinking about it like I did! No matter how I tried to enjoy the story I kept thinking about the drop at the end. It is a neat ride and I'd at least try it before writing it off entirely.

The drop on the outside is NOTHING compared to the one on the inside.

We rode it with our kids for the first time in October. We had been practicing over the summer on the log ride at one of our local parks and everyone did fine. The big drop was not the problem, it was the drop in the INSIDE that we were not expecting. The ride goes pitch black and then you drop and do a quick little up/down hill at the bottom--all in the dark. It was TERRIBLE. The kids wanted off (I wanted off!) and to make matters worse, the ride shut down for about 10 minutes while our boat was sitting at the bottom of the incline for the big drop. We were all praying for a walking exit, but then the ride started up again. Honestly, the big drop was not bad at all because at least you could see where you were going.

All that being said, DD and DH plan to ride twice this October using our 4 FPs. DS and I will be sitting out of that one from now on. Though, I think I would handle it better now since I know what to expect, but still... I think I'm done with that one.

I am a wimp and still refuse to go on space mountain but I have gone on Splash and it isn't bad, it is a 45 degree drop and I would go on it, its a great story and just do it once

I don't like drops either but I rode SM and I was so preoccupied with making sure I didn't get soaking wet or splashed in my face that I didn't really notice the drop too much.

Just when you start to go down the drop, turn your face towards the inside of the ride car to avoid a direct splash to your face. If you focus on not getting wet it will distract you from the drop.

It's the drop on the inside of the ride that you go through while it is pitch black that my DH hates. He hates not being able to see what's coming.

Honestly if you don't like drops, skip it. My DP is terrified of drops and was brave enough to try it when we went to WDW. It wasn't the drop itself that scared her, it was that panic leading up to the actual event! The poor thing was literally in tears long before we even got to the drop and if I could have stopped the ride to let her out, I would have. Sure it's over quickly, but to me it's not worth that terror.

I'm always more concerned about getting wet than the drop itself.

PROTIP: Avoid the front seat if possible (I've actually requested sitting in one in the rear seats multiple times) as it's usually the one to get the wettest, due to the front of the log dipping into the water a bit at the end of the final drop.
