Can anyone tell me if Spirit Airlines show a movie or has radio on board?

Also was wondering if Detroit has curbside check-in?:)

We are first time travelers with Spirit and was just wondering what to expect...is it just like Southwest Airlines?:cutie:

TIA!:)

If you are flying out of DTW then I wouldn't even bother with curbside check in. The spirit counter is right by the door and the gate is right by the counter. It takes us 10 minutes to check in and get to the gate usually!

Spirit does not show movies or, I believe, have a radio. They do have leather seats with a great headrest that adjusts. The plane is also three by three. I like that with spirit you can pick your seats. At 90 days out go to the Spirit site and pick your seats. We are usually in row 4 or 5.

SPIRIT is a NO frills airline. No pillows, no blankets, no snacks on board unless you purchase them. Also, don't bring cash because if you want to buy a snack on the plane you will need a credit card. You will be using the SMITH terminal at DTW, which is nasty. I have used curbside checkin at DTW when the lines are LOONG at the counter (and they can get very long in the morning!!!)

If you get stuck with one of their older models MD 80's bin space may not allow rollarboards. I have had to gate check mine in Denver (When they used to fly there) a couple of times.

You get what you pay for, I think expecting Spirt (home of the BOTTOM FEEDER specials LOL!) to have TV or radio is probably very optomistic. (And if they did, they would charge you)

They are also charging for checked luggage now. I can't remember the details, but check before you leave so you are prepared. (Maybe it's still one free per person or maybe it's pay for each piece?)

Spirit=no frills. No tv, no movie, no radio (overheard a gate agent at MCO trying to get a Spirit passenger a set of headphones for his laptop from NWA gate agent). One checked piece of luggage is still free, until June when they will charge $5 if checked online or $10 if checked at the airport. I believe the luggage fees are much steeper if you check more than one piece, and they only promise one piece per passenger will arrive with you. There is much more. Read all about it at spiritair.com. That being said, I've driven for 3+ hours for the last 3 trips because I enjoy flying with them so much. They no longer fly the md-80. All Airbus now (mostly, if not all A319's), and 30 new Airbus aircraft coming online this year.

Thanks all for your information. I knew that you only get 1 piece of check-in luggage free and it's $10.00 for an extra piece which we'll need but I don't really mind the extra cost.DH said he had heard they had TV but I doubted it as it's a no frills airlines. We usually go Southwest out of Buffalo but got a pretty good fare out of Detroit so this will be a first for us.....thanks again for the great info!:)
