Spin off - what color lights go on your tree?

Clear on the living room tree, clear on the kitchen tree, & multi-colored on the family room tree.

Multicolored, incandescent (pre-lit tree). I can't bring myself to make the switch to LED when it comes to the tree because I just don't like the piercingly bright, cold look. I mean it's not bad and I'm okay with it when other people have them or in other public light displays, but just not for my tree. Until the technology improves and can replicate the warm glow of traditional lights, I'm not switching.

Traditionalist here. Only clear lights everywhere. Lights represent the North Star that lead the wise men to the Manger and baby Jesus and the North Star certainly wasn't multi-colored. Weird that it's such a hang-up for me because I'm really not religious at all and dh is agnostic.

I had to really hunt for incandescent lights last year for the same reasons. I've already bought four boxes this year for my stash.

Warning vent ahead. I love, love, love Christmas. I love to decorate and would always have the house decorated for it. Once I was no longer able to get into the attic to get the things down, NOBODY in my house would go up and get the things down for me. For 3 years I went without a tree and was heartbroken. I begged, I cried I was so upset, but still no decorations.

Last year we had a charity auction on TV and they had an already decorated tree. Guess who bought it. While it was a small already decorated one, at least it was a tree and I enjoyed it so much. I put it in a trash bag and left it in the corner of the dining room so this year I will be able to take it out of the trash bag and fluff it up and be ready to go. My mom died in Feb and she had a lovely Santa collection that I got part of. When my DDIL brought it over to me, I left it in the tote and put the trash bag/tree on top of it, so when I decorate next week, I am ready to go!

Most recently clear mini lights (pre lit snow flocked artificial tree)

This year... red & green retro style lights (spruce tree, artificial - will string the lights myself)

That is awful and makes me so sad for you. What a bunch of scrooges in your family! I'm glad you now have a tree even if it is just a small one. Merry Christmas!!! :santa:

 Awe, I'm sorry they did that but I'm glad you have things in easy reach now. My DH used to store the Christmas boxes up on the high racks of the garage and I'd have to beg him for weeks to get them down for me. Finally I insisted he store them at floor level so I can drag them in myself!

If I lived closer to you I would get your stuff down for you. That's so sad!

This makes me sad. If I lived near you, you can bet I would have gone up and got that stuff down for you with a smile on my face.

I'm glad you have things you can get to on your own now!

Multicolored lights only, and LOTS of them.

You realize that the tradition of decorating trees goes back to the Germanic tribes that used to spread the entrails of their enemies on trees as a warning, right? There's nothing Xtian about the tree at all, it's completely a pagan tradition.

clear.......for the last 6 years on our bigger prelit tree. Before that we had real trees and used multicolor lights.

We always had multi but then we switched to LED lights and I hated them, I mean really hated them.
When I got a new pre-lit tree last year I went with one that can have white or multi lights. I keep it on white but my ds likes the multi, so we put that on Christmas day.

We have clear lights on our tree. I love it. We had multi color lights for years on our ancient one and I didn't like it inside the house. Our tree will be going up after Thanksgiving and this year I'll be filling it with Hallmark Ornaments as well as a few things the kids made when they were young. I have my husband and son pull the tree out of the attic on Thanksgiving Day usually.

Huh? I don't think it said anything about the North Star. It does say, The Magi were from the east. It was more likely a comet or a conjunction of planets and or stars, but it definitely wasn't the North Star, which because of precession of the equinox changes over time to different pole stars. Also, stars are definitely different colors. I could point you out quite a few where the colors are quite noticeable. Like red Antares, in Scorpio, the blue supergiant, Rigel, and the orange Betelgeuse, both in Orion, the greenish Beta Lyra.... Also, when bright stars are low in the sky, they can scintillate like crazy, flashing and shimmering all colors because of the atmosphere.

The first part of this makes me sad. I wish I could come over and decorate away for you! I wonder how many in my own community need that and how to find out. I'm glad that you were able to get a tree!
