Spin-Off of Slo's Monday Poll: Shoes - Ladies, Do You Wear Heels?

Wear heels frequently. I’m a shorty, so I like to get in a little height when I can. I used to be able to rock 4” heels, but I’ve “mellowed” and they are typically now 2.5-3” with a platform on the base (or wedges in summer.)😉

For everyday errands in yoga/jogger pants I’m in tennis shoes.

When I was young, I wore heels. I can’t believe I could wear high heels all day at work and they wouldn’t even bother me. Of course, that was decades ago. These days I wear flats, loafers, boat shoes and sneakers. Just depends what I’m up to and the season.

No heels for me. I have never been able to wear them. My feet hurt from the moment I put them on I think it’s because I have short toes, so the toe box in heels doesn’t fit correctly, and an extremely high arch. To be honest, I can’t even wear most flat dress shoes without issues. The most comfortable pair of shoes I ever wore in my life was a pair of Earth Shoes I had as a kid, where the heel is actually lower than the ball of the foot. These days, I wear Crocs around the house and walking shoes or sandals with a molded arch support sole the rest of the time.

Not anymore. I hit menopause early. I developed issues where my ankles would buckle in. After spraining my ankle in heels, I switched to flats or boots for work. Comfort first, style second. I also have my Oofos and Skechers, as well as hiking books and tennis shoes.

I have a couple of pairs of heels (not super high and generally more chunky). I only wear them on special occassions that require dressing up.

I dislike heels. They've never been comfortable. I only wear them when I "have to" and generally "having to" makes me really reconsider whether I want to go to whatever event it is!

When I was in my 20's I had a few pairs that I considered "heels," because they had a spike heel - but it was only maybe 1 to 1 1/2 inch? I have some boots and dress shoes with a chunky heel, but again maybe about 1 to 1 1/2 inch. What I prefer is about a 1/2 inch elevation in the back on pretty much all my shoes. I prefer that over "flats" though what I wear would probably be considered flats by many.

Heels were just not something I was interested in. Even without heels, over the years I've had ankle issues and some broken toes. I can't imagine if I'd been a heel person!

Sounds like I’m very fortunate not to have any serious orthopaedic issues of any kind, have normally-structured feet and at the advanced age of mid-50’s my balance is still just fine. After 40 years of wearing heels though I have developed a noticeable shortening of my Achilles and hamstrings (from basically always walking on tip-toe) and my calves literally ache after a day of walking in flats. Routine stretching would fix it but I’ve never been diligent to do it.

Nobody dresses up much at my work. More people wear scrubs (medical research). It would look odd if I wore 4 inch shoes daily. I do wear cute casual sandals in the summer.

Does your office still dress up that much?

No, we’re business casual and due to the nature of the company, on any given day half the people will be wearing some combination of jeans and logo shirts/jackets. My Warranty staff is in full uniform and the construction field guys get away with looking like a bunch of bag-ladies. A little more is expected of management team and you can always tell when somebody has a higher-level meeting that day, or if the Big Brass are in town.

I’ve been in the work world for 40 years now and my own attire has gotten much more casual but since I do have a lot of “dressier” things, I might as well wear them. When it comes to shoes though, I’ve always got heels on even with jeans or leggings.
