Does anyone have any suggestions for a special meal for both sets of parents?

For the in-laws it will be their first time in Disney and the first time they will have met my parents. I wanted to do a meal on the first day that they where in Disney to introduce them to everyone and show them how great Disney is. I thought about Ohana but i'm not too sure.

I would like somewhere where the food is great but where there is maybe a show so it takes the awkwardness away from the 'first meet and greet' and so that everyone can have some fun.

I would love to hear your suggestions. Thanks.

My parents and DH's parents also met for the first time at our rehearsal dinner. We went to Whispering Canyon @ the Wilderness Lodge, and I loved it. Although, sometimes you are the show.. it just depends. We had some loud people in our group who wanted to ride the stick pony, so it really took the pressure off of everyone else. They also made me and DH go in front of everyone to announce we were getting married.. then we practiced our wedding kiss.. It was really fun, and a really great memory we have. I highly recommend it, if your looking for something like this!

DF and I always have a great time at the Spirit of Aloha Show at the Poly. The food is excellent and the show is really great, espically when they start twirling the fire sticks! Plus it is very interactive for kids and the young at heart kids!! :thumbsup2

I'm looking for something where the parents don't have to participate (there not that kind of people) but where theres a show or something so that the attentions not on everyone having to make conversation. If you know what i mean.

The Aloha looks fun and like a good idea. I've heard some really bad reviews about it though. What was the food like? And the show?

Thanks:thumbsup2

The Aloha show is not interactive like what jessesgirl described at Whispering Canyon. You can sit there and just watch the show. They ask if anyone who has a birthday to come up if you want and they do a birthday song and then also the same scenario if you want to learn how to hula dance but that's it. You are in your seat for the rest of the time. The show basically is about showing you the different types of dancing on the tropical islands with a story behind it of a girl that grew up on islands, left and then come backs and rediscovers her island roots after being away. It is really cute!

The food is hawaiian BBQ. You start with pinapple and cocunut bread and salad then the main course is BBQ chicken, ribs, rice, steamed veggies and I think something else but I can't remember. Then dessert is a choclate mouse with a raspberry sauce - its yummy!! We love the food and have never had a bad experience with the food. We have been twice and are probably doing it again when we go down for our PS next year with our moms.

If everyone will have park tickets that day I'd say Biergarten would be great. Not only is the food flexible enough for any palate, but nobody can stay awkward while everyone around them is singing a drinking song and waving their glasses in the air. :)

For something a little less raucous there's always Coral Reef and a friendly game of 'spot the fish.' You could even play boys against girls so the family has to mingle and work together.

If there's no park tickets and price isn't an issue, I'd say maybe Jiko. Sit at the cooking place so nobody has to try to smile politely at one another before the nerves wear off. Plus, the food is amazing and interacting with the chefs could be the icebreaker.

If they like exotic food I'd try Kimonos at the Swan. Nothing says entertainment like karaoke. :lmao:
