hello my fellow DISers. long time no talk I know. I've been very busy. I finally know what it feels like to have a life.

well I'm currently working on losing weight.
I've been exercising twice daily for two weeks. all I've lost is a pound and a half. pretty bad, I know. but I have about a month until my goal of 10 (or more) pounds lost is achieved. on account of I'm going to a swimming party. I pretty much hate these as I am officially over weight.

so I have a question. has anyone on here tried the special K challenge?
I know this girl who's on it and has been on it for a while and she said it works. but she is tiny to begin with so I'm not really sure.

how did the SKC work out for you?

any other tips or advice? thanks, guys.

I haven't done special K but I've had the cereal a few times and it was good.

I would suggest Smart Start cereal or Kashi.
Kashi products are crazy good, I could live off that stuff.

Good Luck!
Don't worry too much about the weight, it took me about a month before I lost anything and I was exercising everyday.
Drink lots of water! :goodvibes

I tried it, but I find it difficult to eat Special K for two meals. It's fine on weekends, but it's really hard for me to eat it at lunch at school.
I should really go back on this diet...

I don't use it as a diet, but I still eat Special K with red berries twice a day since it's delicious. However, I would not reccomend doing a diet that mainly focuses up on loading on grains, while little meat. Want a real diet, then have a bowl of Special K in the morning with skim milk, a salad with a piece of Tyson chicken breast and a banana for lunch, a PB sandwhich and piece of fruit for a snack, and some like tuna and cottage cheese for dinner. That's my main daily meal. I go very high protein, while limiting my fat.

With the meal I just posted, you'd get about 125 grams of protein and only 12grams of fat [PB = ten, chicken = one, tuna = one, two slices of bread = one, rest is fat free]. The spread out meals help your metabolism running all day, which helps digest food and get the most out of your meals better. Also, when doing a diet that includes some form of weight lifting or strength exercises, you should be eating your weight in protein. I weigh 155 pounds, but I also have a 48 gram protein shake after I workout three times a week, and the days I don't I just eat another can of tuna, which is about 30 more grams of protein.

Complex thing, but that's how I do everyday. And it has some of my favorite foods [tuna, chicken, banana, chocolate shake] so I enjoy eating it.

Also, exercise is very important for burning fat. Long distance running, short sprints, and weight lifting are the best for burning fat. If you can't do long distance running [like two miles], then try HIIT [high intensity intreval training]. It focuses on getting your heart rate up over an extended period of time, usually 30 minutes, while not killing you. It's tough to lose weight, but setting goals and taking the right steps to achieve them are the best way to lose weight. I lost 15 pounds in fat by doing my diet and weight lifting three times a week, and doing cardio six times. I then added about five pounds in muscle and am in great shape that has not gone unnoticed.

What is it? Do you just eat the Special K cereal every day?

You eat Special K for breakfast and lunch with skim milk, while eating your normal dinner.

Not a well balanced plan at all and once you get off it you'll add the pounds back on easy

Maybe I'm just stuck on my 'diet and exercise' thing that's been drilled into my head, but that doesn't sound very effective. Does it really work for the time you're on it.
I've also heard that Lean Cuisines can make you lose weight.

I don't know if they help you lose weight but I eat those and Healthy Choice meals all the time because they are super good.

Just letting you know 10lbs of weight loss in one month is very unhealthy. At tops you should lose a max of 3lbs a week. Which is still not safe for a child who's still growing. If you want to lose 10lbs may i suggest doing it a little slower. I did it in 2.5 months over the summer by running 4 miles 5 days a week and swimming 50 laps 3 days a week along with tae boe. I cut back on ice cream and junk and drank water and ate popcicles when i was craving something cold. I ate my meals pretty much the same. I know that you probably won't be able to do the swimming but try getting some old exersize videos from the library or something. Your parents might have some stashed somewhere even. Good luck!

Oh for the love of Gawd don't do this! Please, I'm trying to keep you from what I went through - Richard Simmons in practically nothing. :scared: :scared: :scared: :scared: :scared: :lmao: ;) ;)

I lost 10 pounds in a week, but I was on chemo. I counteracted that by eating nothing but Ice Cream that whole week. LOL.
But srsly, kudos to you for 4 miles at one. I can't run 1 mile at once, let alone 4. Funny because everyone asks why I'm not a runner because I have "runners feet".

It only works for the time you're on it. You may lose like six pounds in a few weeks, but once you start eating a normal diet, you'll add those pounds back on. With this, you're eating a very limited amount of protein, fruits, and veggies. It's not good for your metabolism at all.

That varies more specifically to the person. I have a pretty high motabolism, so when I eat pretty healthy and excercise a ton like I am now, I drop weight and gain muscle pretty easy. Ten pounds in one month is solid, for someone with an average metabolism and not unhealthy. The only way it can hurt a teen who's developing is if they do a diet that doesn't give them neccesary nutrients. The ones mainly lacked in the Special K diet is: protein, omega-3 and other fatty acids, and vitamin C.
