My soon to be 9yr old wants a Spa party for her birthday. I have seen some cute ideas on the internet, but want to know if anybody has done one and what they did they liked and would do again. Or what you would not do again?

Thanks in advance for your help.

On the homemade Christmas gifts thread, there was an idea of putting socks (spa socks) rolled up in cupcake paper liners and making them look like a cupcake.

Those would make cute favors.

I just made those as favors for my DD's 9th birthday party (cupcake themed)! They are so cute, and the girls loved them. I found socks pretty cheap at Michaels, but I bet a lot of places have them on clearance this time of year.

My girls went to a spa party last summer. They each got a stretchy headband, to hold their hair out of their faces. They put on a "facial mask" (something the mom made herself... not sure what was in it, but there are tons of recipes online). She gave them each cucumbers to put over their eyes, and they LOVED that. Most were giggling so hard, they couldn't keep them on. :lmao:

She also had a couple "big girls" on hand to help paint toenails and fingernails.

The craft was to tie pieces of ribbon onto a ponytail elastic.

I did one ages ago for my now 18 year old daughter, she was probably 11. I actually found someone in our local paper who at the time worked at The Body Shop and she came out and did the party for me, but you could easily do this yourself. Each girl had their own bucket to put their feet in, each girl had their own pedicure kit (you could pick them up at the Dollar store) and the girls could all do their own pedicures or she would do them for them. At the end they all got full pedicures and "make-up makeovers" and then she ended up the evening with funny hats and boa's.

I did a spa day for my Girl Scout troop. I bought tons of stuff at Target's dollar spot when it was 75% off. We made our own bath salts (with Epsom Salts) and lip gloss. We had a Mary Kay rep do a facial and explain skin care. We did pedicures and manicures.
Originally we wanted to do the Great Wolf spa party but it was way over our budget, later we checked it out when we went to Great Wolf and the girls were glad they didn't waste their $ on it, said it looked childish and ours was much better!

I did a spa birthday party this fall for my 9yr old DD. I hired my niece and two of her friends to give the girls pedicures and manicures. We borrowed a foot spa and the girls took turns soaking their toes. I made vanilla and chocolate flavored whipped cream, and each girl had a whipped cream facial that they could eat :) While all this was going on, we had fancy appetizers and sparkling cider in plastic champagne glasses-these were a big hit. Then we used a kit to make their own flavored lip glosses which they could take home. I think the girls had a lot of fun, and it was fairly inexpensive. The girls all took home nail polish, emery boards, head bands, a body puff, and their lip gloss.

We went to a party once where the craft was making lip gloss. I think it was vaseline and kool-aid. And they used old film canisters (maybe hard to find now). It was fun and each girl got to pick out her fave flavor.

This is great info! My soon-to-be 9 year old is having a spa b-day slumber party in March and I'm totally looking for ideas. I did buy stuff on clearance at bath and body works for the girls and then plan to ask a few high school girls to come do hair and make-up and paint toes/nails. I was planning to hit the dollar store or target dollar spot too for goody bag stuff. Also decor your own flip flops looks like an inexpensive craft.

After atteding one. and having skin reactions, I want to remind you to find out what your guests are allergic to and avoid honey and nut oils! ;)

When my DD had one over a decade ago..I asked each girl to bring a purse and when they arrived I gave them all play $$. They visited several stations and paid for their purchases, hair, make-up, necklaces, etc. They loved handing over the money and buying things.

And I love the sock cupcake idea!! Wish I knew that back then.

My daughter is heading to one today so I'll probably have more ideas for you when we get back but I know they are each getting little robes and flip flops. They are having manicures and pedicures, making lotion and having a cucumber facial.

It sounds so fun!

I did one last year when my daughter turned 8. I bought makeup bags for every girl to hold the following:
hairbrush
mirror
hair elastics/accessories
lipgloss
nailpolish
face scrubbers (I'll explain)
eye mask
bath bombs
bath pillow
fake hair clips

I bought the bags at a discount store we have that buys out other places. They were 39 cents each. Hairbrush, hand mirrors, circular face scrubbers (terry on one side and a mesh on the other), hair clips/elastics and bath pillow were all from Dollar Tree.

Lip gloss was from the same discount store but can easily be found anywhere. Michaels had the bath bombs and eye masks. The nailpolish was on clearance at The Children's Place. Hair clips were from CVS on clearance.

We invited a number of girls so that it was even and each would have a partner to do the makeover.

We started the party by making our own bath products. I have a friend who makes bath items so she gave me the containers. You could easily use something you can find. We used sugar and safflower oil to make a body scrub. Epsom salts were used for a bath soak and I bought unscented lotion at Dollar Tree and put it into smaller containers. The girls added glitter to this which I bought at Michaels in the soap making aisle. I also bout scent in the same aisle (rose scent). The girls could scent their body scrub, salts and lotion with either rose or lavender essential oil. I prefer the essential oils and they can be bought at the healthfood store.

We had three stations after the product making. They first decortated labels for their products. That same station was then used for nail polish. There was also a hair station and a station for lipgloss. If your girls can wear other makeup then add it to that station - maybe face glitter or glitter tattoos.

I used butterfly themed plates and bowls from last years Spring line at Michaels. To keep with the theme I used pizza crust I cut in a butterfly shape. I know I had another appetizer but can't think what it was. I baked brownies in butterfly shaped glass dishes from the same Spring line. These dishes can be found in lots of places. At the end I washed them and they were sent home to keep jewelry, etc in.

And because I sew, I made each girl a towel wrap. They also got flip flops. I just remembered that I bought everyone a white wicker basket to keep everything in. They were clearanced at WalMart after Easter for 75 cents.

I admit I put a lot of thought into parties and my parties are well known. I don't really spend a lot on them it just looks that way.

Oh, and the invitations included bath confetti and invited the girls to a "Spa-Tastic" event.

A cheap version of a foot bath: get warm water in buckets large enough for their feet and add marbles to the bottom. They can rub their feet over the marbles and massage the bottoms.

Bath Salts: Epsom Salt and the sented oil. Clear party bags or one's with a print to take them home.

They sell dish pans at the Dollar tree that we used for this. I just forgot to add that.
