We are considering going on a cruise. Although we have considered DCL, we just don't believe we can afford a cruise with, by Disney standards, 6 Adults and 1 Child. (2 'Adults' are 13 years old)

At any rate, I've been researching the Sovereign of the Seas. I know that it is an older ship that has recently been renovated. I've viewed the deck plans and rooms, but what I'm really looking for is personal opinions on this particular ship.

Did you like it? Was the rooms too small? How would you rate the food? The entertainment? Kids Activities? (Teens and 8 year old activities)

Also, what is considered extra on the Sovereign of the Seas? I know alcoholic beverages, malts, and milkshakes. What else? Besides gratutites and shore excursions, what else must we pay out of pocket for?

Thanks! I can't wait to hear everyone's opinions. :thumbsup2

You can also try cruiselineforums.com. Smaller, newer, friendlier than cruisecritic.

I haven't been on the Sovereign, but I've sailed the Navigator and we rebooked when we got off for the same ship. Not sure about the older ships, but the Navigator had a ton of activities for kids. Food was good (better, we thought, than DCL).

You'll find people here who HATE Royal Caribbean and people who love it.

We;re going on our 1st cruise on the Sovereign on May 15th!!!! When we get back I'll let you know how it is. I also 2nd going to cruisecritic and joining their boards, I've learned alot from the people over there on their boards!!! :goodvibes

I was on the Sovereign last Dec. It was a nice ship. The food and service were excellent. The rooms were very tiny though, much smaller than what I was used to. Overall it was a good experience.

I have been on 2 Sovereign cruises and I love it. The ship while old is beautiful and the rooms are small but manageable. The best thing about this cruise is Coco Cay. Oh my, just a bit of heaven. And get you a Coco Loco. I would go again in a heartbeat, we're just on this WDW kick.

We went on it a few years back and loved it! Coco Cay is gorgeous too. Kids LOVED the kids programs and begged to go each time. :) Food and service was excellent. The room is on the small size and we had 4 of us in there. I did have to have a window which makes it seem bigger. I will get a second room next time. I would book a RC cruise again in a heartbeat.

we sailed the SOV. a few years ago. I know they are working hard to do some upgrades so it doesn't look so dated. i am pretty sure they even added some balcony cabins to the suites. i would def. try to get a bigger room if at all possible or two rooms as the cabins are really small!!! i think they start at 138 sq ft or something tiny like that!

we loved it and we have sailed several other cruise lines!
saying that, it doesn't compare to DCL, but as long as you know that going in to it you will be fine. does that make sense without being smarty pants?
