Southwest Seat Assignment

Just for reference...some flights do not do family boarding (this happened to us when flying to Orlando from DCA). And, sometimes even with purchasing the Early Bird, you may get a B boarding pass (I was in the mid-Bs for a flight to Atlanta a few months back). For our most recent flight from Buffalo...I did Early Bird and was assigned A60. Conversely, we did not do Early Board going to Buffalo from BWI and checked in at 24 hours or so...I got A33 for that one.

Just luck of the draw I guess and who on your flight may have purchased the EB option.

ETA: There was even one time when I purchased EB for my husband and I together. For some reason he was assigned A20 something and I was A50 something. So, he just got in line with me. Strange tho considering I purchased EB at the same time...

Seeing that I usually vacation solo, I always get the early bird seating. I much prefer a window seat. But seeing that I will have early bird, should I still do the exact 24 hour check-in? It is always a very early direct flight from Albany, NY to Orlando. Would it make any difference if I did the check-in at 24 hours, or has it already been determined what my boarding number is? Thank You!

As the previous poster replied, there's no need for you to check in right at 24 hours as your boarding number has already been assigned. We always get Early Bird but we do also check in at some point the day before our flight to see what boarding number we received and to print our boarding passes since we sometimes travel with just carry-on luggage. That way we can go right to security when we get to the airport. We also fly out of Albany and love that early non-stop flight to Orlando.

I always fly solo and never do EBCI and always have a window seat. Even when I have forgotten to check in at 24 hours and ended up in C group I can find plenty of window seats open.

I know this is an old thread, but just wanted to mention that I would argue this is not typical. I am a frequent business traveler, usually fly Southwest and am always solo. Window is my preference. Last trip I ended getting C group on both legs - C5 and C12. Got stuck with a middle seat on both legs. Couldn't even snag an aisle.
