Southwest Open Thru June 9th 11:06am Est

Greetings,

I think what happens is that there are cheap fares when they get released. I believe it is an inventory thing. They might have 10 seats @ $55/each, 10 seats @ $79/each, 20 seats @ $109/each, etc....Just because SWA is not a legacy airline doesn't mean they don't play by they same rules. Heck, SWA overbooks just like the rest of them! The reason their costs are so cheap is that they pay their help crap when compared to other carriers and they hedge the buying of fuel. But that wil catch up to them sooner or later. Then we will all pay.

Yes spashmt it is frustrating not receiving the lower fares. But, in turn like I said, I was expecting to pay $300 or so anyhow. It just sucks looking at the header and seeing $55 one way. Heck, it is alot cheaper than what the cruise line wanted to charge us. They wanted $600/person.

I'll definitely keep checking. As it is right now, the cheapest I can get is $179 EACH way, which seems a little high to me. I can get $190 RT on NWA, which is as about as good as you can hope for- yet I keep hearing about $59 fares etc with SW, and am tempted to keep waiting....

Landing fees are high at DTW, so getting a really GOOD deal out of Detroit on any airline is rare. That's not to say it can't happen, but it's rare to places like FL.

I used my RR ticket to get a SWA flight out on Good Friday, returning on the following Thursday. MY DH's round trip ticket cost $409 for the same flights.

We went last May and it wasn't until March that I caught the $39 fare between BNA (Nashville) and MCO. There may have been one sooner, but I was able to get it then. Their schedule had been out for sometime and I just kept checking. In fact, everytime we've flown SWA, it seems to take a while AFTER the schedule comes out for the real cheap fares to appear...at least for the flights I need.

Thanks, this is good to know....I'll probably end up going with NW, then ;)

for those who fly southwest have you ever not gotten seats next to your party?I will be traveling with 3 teens and need for us to sit 2 by 2 either across from each other or in front or back of each other.I can fly Delta for 276 pp rt nonstop which is actually cheaper than the total price for sw right now.Any suggestions from the pros out there.I have only flown 1 other time with United and it was great.
Thanks in advance,
Dee

Just a side note. We are now looking for Dings and airfare to Tampa. It's only about an hour (@ 80MPH LOL) from the Tampa airport to WDW or Universal. There are still lots of flights open. It takes about 30 minutes from MCO so it's an alternative.

Greetings,

Yes, Tampa is an option for all of those who can not fly into Orlando. Mywife and I did that last year. We flew into Tampa and stayed on S. Pete's beach for five nights then drove up to Portofino Bay for five nights. Just drove over to Tampa on our departure day. We had the last non stop out of Tampa to Providence. We got to the airport earlier than I thought we would. Just give yourself plenty of time because there is constant construction going on between Tampa and Orlando on Route 4. I planned on a two hour drive with the standard two hour wait at the airport. Made it to Tampa in less than a hour. No traffic to speak of.

Also, be advised you can fly into Tampa and fly out of Orlando. But be for warned. If you do this there is usually a charge on your rental car bill for dropping the car of in a different location thatn pickup. It is not cheap. Well worth the drive back to Tampa.

Starting at midnite the night before your scheduled flight, get on your computer and check-in with SWA. You will be allowed to print your boarding passing and they will assign you a category to board the plane either A, B, C. A's are the 1st boarders after infant/toddler family boarders and handicap. That way you and yours can sit together. Just make sure you do it on your way back and you will sit together on both flights..hope this helps.
