Southwest Credit

I have a $60 Southwest Airline Credit. It expires September 15, 2009 (you have to fly by that day). Has anyone ever sold this on ebay or craigslist?

I was under the impression that with a credit like that since it is in your name, you must show ID to use it. I know airlines are very strict in showing ID. My cousin has a credit for a full ticket and was told that he can in fact transfer it over to my aunt, if he purchases the tkt with the credit and puts the tkt in her name.. I cannot see how you can do that on ebay or craigslist... you may want to call Southwest to see if you can "allow" someone to "have" your credit...

The credit is in the form of a comfirmation code and the original passenger's name. No ID is required to use it. You can even book it online with the "code".

I never sold mine but I did get it extended for 6 months until I was able to use it.

From my past experiences on multiple airlines Southwest seems to be the only one that allows you to transfer unused credit to other passengers (one of the many reasons why they remain our favorite). The only information the booking party would need is the confirmation code attached to the funds. So as far as selling it - I guess you could release the code when you receive the payment for it (never tried doing it myself), don't see why it wouldn't work. HTH!

Did you have to pay a fee? Just curious as we have $260 credit expiring August 12th since we had to cancel our August WDW trip. I could really use the credit towards our January trip!

OP - I don't know if ebay allows these to be sold or not but I would hesitate to use paypal for a transaction like this since the buyer can just claim they didn't get the code or it didn't work and paypal would refund them. You would be out the credit and the $$$.

Are there any friends of yours that could pay you cash for the credit?

I sold mine to a friend for $25 less than it is worth. I figured she was doing me a favor buying it off of me so I gave her a little discount.

I heard they were pulling Southwest credit auctions off of ebay so if I were you, I'd try to find a friend or craigslist.

Back on this issue of extension, I have a $100 credit that expires in 4 months. What is the process to get this extended? Can you extend beyond 6months or is that the limit?

You have to pay a $50 fee to have ticketless travel funds extended, same deal as with RR tickets. I think that gives you an additional year from the date of original purchase on travel funds.

I think I'm going to suck it up and pay the darn $50 fee to extend a RR ticket for a year... and I really only need about 2 weeks.

I've heard that SW has gotten pretty serious about monitoring sales of travel funds and RR tickets posted online lately. If you don't have a friend or relative you can work something out with, maybe list it at a reasonable buy it now price, and hopefully you'll find a buyer before it gets pulled?

They'll subtract the $50 from your travel funds. You won't have to come up with any extra $$.

Last I heard you had to wait for SW to mail the new amount out in the form of a LUV voucher though, so be sure to allow time for that. I'm so used to doing everything SW online, and having the changes be immediate, it threw me when someone mentioned lag time with reissued travel funds.

I know they've changed the rules on extensions several times over the years, but I'm pretty sure if you pay the $50 fee, they will extend for an extra year. The extension is based on your original purchase date though. It doesn't matter when the flight was booked for, or when you call to ask for the extension. Also, if you ever combine funds, they all revert to the earliest expiration date. Watch out for that.
