Southwest coming to Philly?

My daughter is trying to decide weather to take USAir from Philly to MCO in November at $230 per ticket or wait till Southwest starts service in Philly, at a $79 one way ticket She has heard that it will be another couple of months till they start service. She has two questions, do you get a seat assignment on Southwest or is it a mad dash for seats? Do they have more then one flight a day out of major cities or just one a day? She is traveling with 2 small ones so seat assignment is a must! Although she said that she wouldn't mind if someone else had them in their seats for the flight!!! Any info would be appreciated.

Southwest starts service to Philadelphia on May 9th. They are currently showing 3 daily non-stops from PHL to MCO. Southwest does not provide assigned seating, they board by three groups "A, B, C" as determined by your time checking in (either at the airport or online). However, if you are travelling with small children (under 5), Southwest allows pre-boarding. Although at times I hear that they do not pre-board on many flights to Orlando, since 75% of the passengers are travelling with young children.

I'm a "Platinum" frequent flier on American, but I enjoy flying on Southwest just as much. I find the employees of Southwest much more friendly and customer-oriented than those of any other airline (of course, there are individual exceptions... I'm not trying to slight anyone or any airline.)

I would wait. I booked our June trip a while back, on USAirways, paid $201.50. When Southwest put their schedules up, USAir matched SW's fare. I got vouchers for the difference. I don't know how far she is from Atlantic City, but I booked our October trip with Spirit. I paid $146 for those tickets. I usually book early, but, I think I'll be waiting until about three months out, from now on.

I would check us air again. Our tickest for sept. were 176.50 each.
