Southampton to Copenhagen

We're on the July 22 Iceland cruise that leaves from Southampton, UK and ends in Copenhagen.

Let me start out by saying that our TA is NOT DU. The one we use has done a great job in the past but I'm not thrilled with them this year. Regardless...

Our TA has given us multiple conflicting info on what Disney transfers are available from/to London and Copenhagen hotels that are not at the airports. (We're staying for 3 days in London and 2 days in Copenhagen.) I finally called Disney themselves and found that in central London we can get transport from:

- Hyatt Regency London (Churchill)
- JW Marriott Grosvenor

And in Copenhagen
- Tivoli Hotel
- Copenhagen Marriott

My question for the Forum is, has anyone been given different info from Disney? At this point, with two 2023 cruises with grossly incorrect info from my TA, I'm following up on everything. I'm confident of Disney's info, but not confident enough to not check it.

I've booked the Tivoli and, in London, a Hilton bc we have a ton of Hilton points. We'll take a taxi to one of the London hotels for transport. It will be a Saturday morning and there's no way that the taxi will cost more than the 3 days in one of the above hotels. Quite frankly, I'm hoping that the TA info given to me a couple of weeks ago is correct since that was that Disney transfers were available from a Hilton and that's the one I then booked. Not betting on it though.

Americans all want to book transfers in advance but this isn't commonplace in Europe as they have tons of options for transfers (Train, Taxi, etc.) The easiest way to do this is simply to download a taxi app and order a ride from there once in destination.

The Tivoli hotel in Copenhagen is right around the corner from Copenhagen Central station. Its a quick train ride from the airport to get there. You could also order a taxi if you prefer to do that instead.

Your TA is probably struggling to find information on these things simply because its too far out and booking these kinds of transfers is simply not available outside of the ones Disney offers. I know people on our cruise in 2022 that never even had their Disney transfers show up and had to take taxi's for everything. It was a mess.

We had no issues with transportation on our cruise and did everything in destination. If you want a good guide for options, look up the App "Rome2Rio" You can use this while on your trip and in advance to look up all options for transportation from one destination to another. This is really helpful especially for Americans who may not think to look for options like trains etc.

We took national coach from Southampton to London after a cruise on Aug. It worked fine. Taxi from port to bus station (near train station) is about $10 for 4 persons. We paid a bit extra to have assigned seats.
We’ve also taken the train from SH to Waterloo and have also transferred to other places in London. There is a nonstop train from lhr to paddington every 15 minutes.

We've been on 3 DCL cruises out of Copenhagen, and I've traveled through much of Western Europe on hiking and climbing trips and have never encountered any difficulty using English or public transportation -- even boarding with a large suitcase or backpack. While in Copenhagen, we've traveled all over the city by bus, train and the tram. While it's not the cheapest place to stay, I highly recommend the Crowne Plaza. First because it's located adjacent to the large Fields Mall and second the tram/train track stops are both located directly across the street. It also provides a shuttle from and back to the airport.

We have definitely run in to difficulties using English. Once was in a high end boutique in Paris, which surprised me. (usually my attempt at speaking French would be met with "That's ok. I speak English.") They were falling over each other to help me, but absolutely no English. My bit of French got me through purchasing what I still refer to as my "Paris shoes" and I love them. The other memorable time was the entire city of Madrid. Our daughter was Junior Year Abroad and we went to visit her. Thank goodness she's fluent in Spanish. We tried French and German as well the few times she wasn't with us and no luck. We didn't have that issue in Malaga or Barcelona.

Yeah, we did the public transport in our younger days. We have some stories of ridiculous extremes we went to traveling in our 20's and 30's to save a few bucks. We've worked and saved hard during our working years to make travel in our early retirement easy. In addition, I'm just not physically up to lugging luggage around beyond rolling it on wheels down the airport concourse. Hubby is much stronger, but we're going to go with the easy.
