South Beach Dieters......... Unite

Well I made it through last night and all morning today without cheating but I have to say I really don't feel very good. I feel kind of weak and a little shaky this afternoon. I have eaten what I am supposed to (Western omelette for breakfast, peanuts for snack, and a spinach salad with turkey for lunch). This is a really big change for me as I was eating a ton of carbs and drinking lots of Coke. Is this feeling the result of the carbohydrate withdrawal? Did anyone else feel this way? Will it stop?

Yep - you are going through withdrawl. I got through it with lots of water and diet Pepsi - the caffiene helped (so did a couple of Advil). It will pass, usually after only 1 or 2 days. After that, you will be amazed that you no longer have carb cravings. You are re-training your body and adjusting your body chemistry. Keep going - there is light at the end of this particular tunnel.

From today's Daily Dish:

Ever wonder why you can't find sugar-free yogurt at the grocery store? That's because it doesn't exist. Yogurt contains a natural, low-glycemic sugar called lactose. But if yogurt contains sugar, when is it OK to eat yogurt on The South Beach Diet™?

Thanks to recent research pertaining to calcium's role in weight loss, Dr. Agatston has updated the diet to include yogurt in every phase. Not all yogurts are created equal, so follow these Phase-by-Phase guidelines for yogurt consumption:

During Phase 1, limit yourself to fat-free plain yogurt. Avoid any sweetened yogurts, even those with artificial sweeteners, but feel free to flavor your yogurt as you would a ricotta crème.

During Phases 2 and 3, you may also introduce artificially sweetened, nonfat flavored yogurt. To identify yogurt that's been artificially sweetened, look for the words "light" or "lite" on the label. Limit to 4 ounces daily.

Thanks for the update. I was on there this morning and didn't see any new updates.

Thank you for the encouragement. I really did not feel well yesterday in fact it got so bad that I thought I was going to faint. I did break down since I was at work and had about 10 M&M's but I felt so guilty that I don't think I will do that again. In spite of falling off of the wagon I weighed in this AM and have lost 4 lbs. since I started on Monday. I was pretty happy with that even if it is only water weight. I'll take it in any form I can get it.

Well hang in there. I know the feeling. Sometimes I look at the foods I used to eat and want to cram them in my mouth. I think it's more mental than anything else. Just try and remember the great benefit that you are doing for your body, and everything will be o.k. Don't beat yourself up over a slipup. It happens to al of us one time or another.

Hello everyone. It's been a slow week for us this week on the SBD thread. How's everyone doing I just know that I refuse to step on that scale for another week and a half. TOM will mess with my mental picture of how I'm doing. Well that being said, I have been doing extremely great on my new way of life. I just need to exercise more. Ever get ready to exercise and them something come up

I weigh myself tomorrow and will report in. I attended a function today and several people pulled me aside and commented on me and DH's weight loss. It was very flattering. One friend even called me tonight to get some lc recipes, she made one and called me twice to tell me how much she and her family loved it! I gave her the buffalo chicken tenders and cole slaw (made with splenda) recipe.

This way of life is so awesome in so many ways! We just love it. Hopefully I will be changing my clippie tomorrow. I hope everyone else on the Beach is doing well. Take care!

This clippee seems to have taken a long time to get. But doesn't it look fancy! I'm doing south beach and loving it. Down 6 pds. today! Took 12 days and i was so good. I'm so glad it finally moved. I did measure and lost 4.5 inches during that time and my pants aren't cutting off circulation now , so alls good! I know it's tough! The toughest is the first week. Just want to go back to those old ways for a taste but once you get through that is smoothes out. Need to get moving. Keep working on the construction project so I'm burning something but need to get organized with the exercise. Hey, snowshoeing burns 1000 cal per hour. Great for Nanok's of the North. Expecting a snowstorm tonight and tommorow. One of the last of the season. It's 30 out so that's good. Just thought I'd check in. Been kind of busy and wanted to post when I got my 5# clippee for sure! Thanks for the ears.

congrats on the weight loss. It is important, but thank goodness for losing inches as well. I think I need to add one of those cheat free clippies to my signature. I haven't cheated in 30 days!!!

I'm happy to report a 3.5 pound loss for the week! That brings my total to 37.5 pounds. Yea me!!! I just snagged my 35 pound clippie!!!!!

decaff38 - your clippie looks good on you! Keep up the great work!

sm4987 - you need to go get your cheat free clippie. That's just as big an accomplishment as the weight loss. I can't believe this marks 90 cheat free days for me. It's so nice to be able to keep track of our progress.

I hope everyone else on the Beach is doing well. Take care guys!!! :)

Stuck on 10 pounds for the past two weeks. No loss (but no gain). It doesn't make any sense. I haven't lost a THING in two weeks and I've been VERY good. BUT, things are fitting differently and I do feel really good. More energy, etc.

I need to lose 20 pounds! I lost 9 during the first two weeks (Phase One). I haven't really jumped full force into Phase Two. Only eating one or two of the "new" foods each day.

Help? Suggestions? Reassurance that I'm not doing this for nothing?

I know the feeling. I'm on week 5 and I don't seem to be losing much of anything anymore eiter. I will be better able to judge after TOM. Hang in there. Clothes fitting differently means you're losing inches.

When I was stuck the last time I read more about SB and I discovered I wasn't drinking enough water so I upped that and also not enugh calcium. I began taken calcium tablets daily and the wight began to move down again. My next step is to add some formal exercise. Good luck! Love the Beach!
Try the pancakes from thr book. really good.

I just read through this thread and was hoping that I may join you all for some support.

My name is Karin, and I statred the SB 8 days ago. I'm a complete sugar addict and thought that this program might be just what the doctor ordered! Day one was a breeeze, but the sugar withdrawl hit on the night of day #2. After toughing that night out, my life-long sugar cravings have all but vanished! It has been pretty easy staying on track and I havn't cheated at all.

I don't know how much I've lost because I don't weigh myself. My SIL keeps on telling me to get a base weight to chart my progress, but I don't want to get caught up in a numbers game. My goal is to go down 2 sizes and to establish a healthy eating habit. I already exercise 5+ times a week, so I'm in decent shape. After hitting 40, my metabolism really slowed down and I just got bigger. Now I want to get back to my smaller self again!

Can anyone help me with a few questions? First of all, I've been using Equal as a sweetenter. Should I switch to Splenda?

Secondly, is it better to drink ice-water than the water from my tap? (It's prettty cold already--I'm in Ohio and tap water at this time of the year is cold!)

Next, because of the success that I'm having, I afraid of moving to the 2nd phase of the diet. I know that this has been talked about before, but I'm still afraid!

Lastly, our big trip to WDW is coming up soon, and I'm afraid of blowing it down there. I did find this travel-sized electric griddle that I will be making omlets in each morning before heading to the parks. We also have a cooler that becomes a fridge that we'll keep in the room to keep healthy foods in. My concern is about staying on track in the parks.

Any advice and encouragement is very appreciated!

Also, thanks for all the info. shared on this thread!

Welcome. You can always join us for any type of support you need.

Equal, splenda, I don't think it matters. It's a matter of taste IMHO. I prefer splenda to anything else. It has no after taste and I use it in virtually everything that require sugar.

Tap water from your faucet, is also a matter of choice. I drink mine out of my referigerator because it's filtered. I wouldn't care where it came from, just drink plenty of it. It really helps me stay full and clean out the system.

I stayed on phase 1 for 2 extra weeks because I was also afraid of moving on. I think you will be fine. Everyone says the weight loss slows down in phase 2, but it's at a healthy rate. The way I figure it, you could still have some phase 1 days while your in phase 2. It doesn't have to be higher carbs all the time.

Lastly, eating in WDW from what I understand is easy. You can go to a stand and get a burger then toss the bun. The buffets have so much on them, you can choose what you want to eat. Also remember that if you do have something that maybe yo feel like you shouldn't eat, don't woory about it. I understand that this way of eating allows for the occasional slip up.

Welcome again, and keep coming back:D

Karen, one more thing. Let me know how you like the Swan, we'll be going to the Dolphin in July.

Haven't checked in here much recently. I hit another stall, but I think it is due to the fact that I upped my workout. I am lifting Monday, Wednesday and Friday mornings and have started to build up some muscle mass. I can see that my arms have gotten a little bigger, my chest and shoulders are a little broader, and my waist is trimmer. I need to work some cardio into the workout, but I have a bum left knee and it has been quite painful lately. I really need to set up an appointment with a specialist to look at the danged thing, but who has the time? We have a treadmill and a Nordic Track Skiier, and I think I will try the skiier again to see how my knee reacts. I do know that 20-30 minutes on that thing and you sweat buckets. It is quite a workout.

The stall has been a little frustrating, but I made a decision when I started this process that I would not be a slave to the scale. The fact that I gained a pound without changing what I was eating and looking leaner at the same time tells me it is muscle that is showing as a gain. At least, I hope that's what it is

Hope everyone has a good day.

Good for you. I also think I'm in a stall and doing my best to stay away from the scale. Weight lifting really does seem to keep the weight on, but the clothes keep falling off.
