South Beach Dieters......... Unite

Good morning fellow SBDers!

Dodie - welcome to Phase 2! Congratulations on your lose during Phase 1. Please keep us informed of how you are doing.

E - DH and I were a bit apprehensive about starting Phase 2 when the time came. We did SBD 1.5 as I liked to call it. We added good carbs slowly. I think it was almost 2 months before we allowed ourselves to have rice and I still have not had some of the things that you are allowed on Phase 2 yet.

I love working out with my weights as you use the FIRM videos. I use the 3 and 5 pound weights and plan to add the 8 pound weights at the beginning of March.

Hey everybody! Just thought I would check in.
Well I made it through phase 1. I lost 8 lbs. I was a bit disappointed because I had hoped to lose at least 10, but I guess I can't be too upset over a 2 lb. difference. I'm pretty proud of my 8 pound loss. I lost quited a few inches as well; about 4 or 5 from my waist alone. I was pretty happy about that.

Going to phase 2 is kind of scary. I'm afraid I'll gain some back. But I'm adding the new carbs real slow. I'm hoping I'll still lose 1-2 pounds a week. Is that about the average on phase 2?

I'm finding SB to be very simple and I never really feel deprived. I still would like to eat some of my old faves but it's not like I'm craving them, I just miss the thought of them. Does that make sense? I have been trying new foods and have found a couple of tasty recipes. I had an eggplant lasagna one night that was to die for. This diet is definately making me expand my horizons.
Anyway, how is everyone else doing on the Beach?

Julie - congratulations on the 8 pound loss that is really wonderful! I know it can be a bit disappointing when you don't reach your goal but you're not that far from the 10 pounds. You'll get there and soon I bet.

I found going to Phase 2 was kind of scary too. It was so safe at Phase 1. But I am loving the foods we have slowly added back. I try to take some of our old dishes and make them SBD friendly and for the most part I am successful. Tonight we're having crustless pizza and my family loves it! I can smell the onions, peppers and other gooey ingriedents baking in the oven and I think "this is a diet"! This program is just wonderful.

I found that I lost 1-2 pounds and sometimes 3 when I had a whoosh after TOM on Phase 2 but the past couple of weeks now I have slowed to 1/2 pound up to 1.5 pounds. It's a bit disappointing but I can wear clothes that are 2 sizes smaller than what I was wearing before so no complaints here. Plus my wedding ring is so lose on my hand that I just know any day now it will slip off my finger so I plan on having it resized or will wear it on another finger.

I get compliments daily from coworkers and family about my loss and that helps spur me on despite how slow the scale is moving now. It's going in the right direction (down) and that's all I really care about!

I wish you much success as you embark on Phase 2!

In the South Beach book i found a recipe for vegetable quiches. i don't care for spinach so I omitted it and added more red peppers . Didn't have egg substitute so used real eggs and fat free 1/2 and 1/2. Makes 12 mini quiche. Can freeze and take to work and micro. Love them and they keep me eating breakfast regularily.

I lost 18 pounds last June and loved it. Fell off but am back on 3 days! I will make it this time. Drink my water and get moving a bit.

Good luck to you beginners!!::yes::

decaff38 I love to hear from those of whom the diet worked. It keeps me motivated!!

Hi everyone -

I love the line: can I pull up a chair on your beach? I need to lose 30 pounds. Can you all help me. I have done Atkins and lost and of course gained more back during a cruise than I started with. In an initial read through I think that SBD is going to take a lot more work to do than Atkins but it seems much more sensible.

After first declaring I needed to take the WISH challenge and stating that I just needed more exercise, I did join a gym and have been working out regularly and doing Yoga at home - but then my copy of the SBD showed up during a cleaning routine (I had never read it after buying it) and I got to thinking that I actually had more to loose than I could do without changing the way I was eating. I have played competitive sports for so long that I forget that when I am not doing it I can't eat like a cow and drink beer several times a week.

I am on day one! Yikes! Hopefully, this fast-paced working Mommy can get the hang of it. I will check in tomorrow and let you all know how I did on Day one. I am looking towards the weekend when I can sit down and make some of the recipes like the quiches and the Ricotta Creams. My biggest problem is that I work an hour away from home thus making dinners hard to do elaborate recipes for and I tend to grab and run for breakfast. I made eggs this morning and have had my cheese stick snack and now I am headed to the gym.

Lisa- Thanks so much for the support. I'm trying not to let the scale dictate my progress. It's difficult, but I'm trying. My clothes are starting to fit better and my husband says he can tell I'm smaller. Plus, I'm feeling better than I have in a long time. Some good changes are being made, so who needs scales?!!:snooty:
The crustless pizza sounds good. I think we're going to give it a try on my husband's day off. Is it the deep dish one with the cheesy crust? Today I will be having my first apple! Yeah!:teeth:
BTW, I've been reading your journal. You are doing amazing!! Very inspirational!!

decaff38- Those veggie cups are pretty handy. I used half the spinach it called for and it still was a little too much spinach for me. But, my husband said that it was the only way I could ever get him to eat spinach. He really liked them.

castlegazer- Welcome to the Beach!! I started on SB at the beginning of February. I really like it so far. I think it is a really healthy diet that isn't hard to follow. The first phase is the hardest, but you can do it. Basically, getting over your initial cravings is what is so hard. Especially if you're a bad carb addict like me. But I never feel deprived on this diet, even on phase one. It's just learning a new way of eating.
It sounds like you're off to a good start exercising. What kind of competitive sports do you play?
Hope you have lots of success on your weight loss goals!!

Thank you very much JulieK - I play soccer. I am not going to play again in the spring (we're thinking of adding another wee one to the family;) ) so I needed to find something else to do.

Today the diet seems tough - but hopefully after hitting the grocery store it will be easier to handle. Word of caution to anyone thinking about it - go grocery shopping immediately! I have a lot of BAD foods in my house.

Hi fellow Beachgoers!

I think I mentioned that I was going to cut out the no sugar added ice cream for dessert (it's evil) and the toast with fruit spread at breakfast (more evil) and see if I could get my weight loss to speed up just a little bit. I am happy to announce after losing 1/2 pound or 1 pound for the past few weeks that I have lost 2 pounds since Sunday! I am very happy. I have broke the 240's for the first time years and I am 1 pound away from my 35 pound clippie. Yea me!!!

Julie - I am glad I could give you some encouragement. This board is just wonderful isn't it? I try to go more by how my clothes fit than anything else. Okay, who am I kidding, I do like to see the numbers inch down on the scale too but I loved fitting into the size 18 low rider jeans the other day and considering I was wearing a size 22/24 and even a size 26 just 11 weeks ago, I have nothing to complain about. The crustless pizza I make has cooked lean ground beef and italian sausage as the base on the bottom of a 13X9 pan with the other ingredients on top. It's wonderful! Thanks for stopping by my journal. It is a labor of love for sure but I am so glad I started it.

Castlegazer - welcome to the Beach! We always have room for one more. I don't follow any of the fancy recipes in the book. I either get my recipe ideas from lowcarbfriends or take recipes from my pre-SBD days and make them SBD friendly. I don't have time to cook elaborate meals and our George Foreman grill has been my best friend since I started. You can cook up some chicken breasts or pork chops in less than 10 minutes, cook some veggies or throw together a salad and be eating dinner less than 30 minutes after you hit the door. I think once you get used to the program, it will be second nature for you. Welcome again!

decaff38 - it's nice to have a vet among us! It sounds like you are off to a good start. DH and I ate the veggie quiche when we were on Phase 1 and I added bacon to the recipe. They were delicious!

Castlegazer- All I can say is: phew! soccer is exhausting just watching it. I'm sure you will find something else you enjoy. That's exciting about maybe adding to your family. One of the many reasons I began SB was because we've wanted to have a baby and losing weight might help things out a bit. Who knows maybe in the near future you and I will be gaining weight for a good reason!
;)

Lisa,

Have you tried grilling some vegatables on the George Foreman grill yet? When we do hamburgers, since my wife and I eat ours without the bun, I will slice up some red, yellow, orange and green peppers and some onions and throw them on the GF grill for a few minutes. I spray the grill with PAM before hand. When the veggies are cooked I put them in a covered bowl to keep warm while I cook the burgers. Top the cooked burger with some LF cheese, put the veggies on it, add some mustard and LC catsup - heaven.

DH & I consider the SB oven roasted vegetable to be a kitchen staple. We have them at least one per week. We use leftover roasted veggies in our AM eggs - tastes great & gets another serving of vegetables in.
I am not a slave to the combo of veggies mentioned in the SB book. I rarely add aspargus, because we prefer to eat them separately. I go with what looks best in the market, but its almost always zucchini, onions & slivered garlic. I frequently add celery and especially enjoy chopping the celery leaves into the mix. Sometimes, I add a few grape tomatoes, which creates a yummy sauce. I make large batches and try to have my chopping done the night before or earlier in the day. That way, I come in the door from work, add salt, pepper & olive oil to the pre-cut veggies. They start roasting while I change my clothes &/or work on the balance of dinner i.e. chicken cutlets.
I think I'll make a big batch this weekend because my local Acme is featuring a veggie that looks like a zucchini, but is shaped like a softball, can't remember its name, but I'm always looking for good variations on roasted veggies. Hey, you know how sucessful TV shows have "spin-offs" for a character. Maybe, I'll do a roasted veggie spin-off from this sucessful SB thread!

Could someone explain the "whoosh" theory? I read the book, but don't recall this. (I'm hoping it's true, since I don't feel much thinner this week, LOL.)

I have tentatively entered Phase Two, but not full force, after losing 9 pounds during the first 2 weeks of Phase One.

For those of you who are craving something "sweet" for breakfast and aren't really egg fans (or are SICK of eggs, like I am), last night I put something together so it would be ready for this morning and it was YUMMY.

I did the ricotta cheese thing with the Splenda and vanilla and spread it in the bottom of a larger cereal bowl. I then very thinly sliced 4 large strawberries and place them on top of the cheese. Finally, I sprinkled just a little Splenda on top of the berries, covered it all with plastic wrap and put it in the fridge.

This morning, the flavors had kind of mingled and it was REALLY sweet. I swear it tasted like strawberry cheesecake!! Very good and satisfying.

Mmmm! Dodie that recipe sounds wonderful. I just purchased a HUGE thing of strawberries from Sam's and guess what I'm going to make? Thanks!!

Dodie,

OMG! That sounds soooo good! I bet if you made the lemon ricotta cream with the strawberries on top it would be phenomenal too! I've decided your recipe is what I'll have Monday morning as my welcome to phase 2 breakfast!

Oh and I want to know all about the whoosh theory as well. Maybe this is what I'm waiting for??!!

Have a great day,

E.:sunny:

DH & I have not bonded with the ricotta desserts. When we think of ricotta, we think lasagna or cannoli, not good SB thoughts.

anything different with my signature?
That's right I just got my 10 lb. clippie today!! Yay!!
:Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc

Thank you, thank you!! I actually got to 10 lbs. yesterday, but waited until today to get my clippie just to make sure.
I'm really enjoying this new way of eating. I've been trying new things and can't believe I actually like them. Like a simple apple with natural peanut butter on it, wonderful. Or turkey with low-fat cheese, mustard and dill relish rolled-up. I didn't even miss the bread it was so good. And then this morning I had my first mock danish. I was afraid to try this, but was pleasantly surprised by how tasty is was.
I'm actually starting to think that I might be able to do this for life. Every other time I've dieted I never thought that; I was always ready to get back to my old eating habits. I just hope I can continue to think this way.
What about everyone else? How are you all doing on the Beach?
