South Beach Dieters......... Unite

Hi everyone,

I haven't posted in a while due to a baaad tummy bug and I haven't been able to get back on track since then. Seems the only thing I could stomach after it was gingerale and dry toast so so much for lowcarbing it!!! I think I"ll be able to start fresh tomorrow but today I'm still a little wishy washy.

Good for everyone who's exercising! As soon as I'm up to snuff I'm definitely going for walks at lunch. I think that's about the only way I"ll be able to get my exercise in.

Take care

Karin - Welcome to the SBD thread! Congratulations on being cheat free! I wanted to comment on the water question. I find that ice cold water tends to make me "go" more often than just plain tap water. I'm from Ohio too and I don't feel our tap water is cold enough. We do drink bottled water only because I get a hoot out of spending less for a case of water at BJ's than I did on a quart of my favorite ice cream (pre-SBD of course). I know what you mean about being afraid of Phase 2. I thought it was silly at first, until Phase 1 came to an end and then I felt the same fear the book talked about. I went on a sort of Phase 1.5 for a while. I started added back good carbs real real slow. In fact, I've just added fruit back to my diet this past week and I've been on SBD for 3 months! There's nothing wrong with taking it slow as you ease yourself into Phase 2.

I agree with sm4987 about eating at Disney. My trip is just 3 months away and I am already planning several buffet meals and when we do eat counter service, I will be taking off the bun, order veggies or a salad instead of fries and pretty much eating the way I would eat at home. You can go to www.wdwig.com and click on the dining button and there is a section on how to eat low carb at Disney (I know we're technically not lc but the principles are the same). You'll find some good suggestions there. You have a good attitude in being concerned about your new eating habits on vacation. Good for you! Check back and let us know how you are progressing. :)

Jerry - hey I've been missing your posts! I'm sorry about the plateau. That just stinks. I do some strength training with 3, 5 and 8 pound weights with my work outs and I'm concerned that I am going to be seeing a significant slow down in my weight loss too. As a matter of fact, when I weighed myself this morning, I was up 1 pound. How frustrating!!! I hope you break through your plateau soon! I also hope your wife is still plugging along and doing well. Take care!

Bostonlass - feel better soon. I know you'll be jumping on the exercise bandwagon as soon as you are feeling better. Take care of yourself!

I hope everyone else is having a good afternoon on the Beach!

BostonLass,
I've had the same stomach bug....very "nauseating" to say the least. I'm finally feeling better today. However, I did lose 2 lbs. because I couldn't eat one whole day and then not much yesterday. I still don't have an appetite today. I hope you are feeling better.

How has everyone else been doing? I now have lost 10 lbs. in two months and have 13-15 to go...whichever gets me comfortably into a size 10. Take care!

Thanks for the help, Sheree' and Lisa! I'm still going strong...no thanks to the CM who told me all about the offerings at the Easter brunch at Chef Mickeys! I hung up the phone, downed a glass of water and did all I could to shut out the vision of that buffet.;)

I havn't cheated so far, but I know it will be hard on Easter!

Have a great weekend!
Karin

WeirdEyes - lol. That's all I want too. Whatever will be me in a 10. I don't want to be a 14 anymore.

Well I've officially switched to Weight Watchers as of today. I just need something with a bit more structure since I tend to take things to their limits. Thanks for all the support and I'll still check in on the check in thread!

Weirdeyes - hope you feel better. Took me a good 5 days to get back to feeling myself.

bostonlass, good luck with Weight Watchers. I know a lot of people that have had success with it including me. I lost 40 lbs doing something close to WW. I just didn't attend the meetings, etc. but ate like it was WW.

I finally starting feeling better on Friday. Problem is, I felt so much better, I ate a piece of cake on Saturday. :(

Back to the grind today with diet and exercise.

I weighed in yesterday and I'm down another pound. Yippee!!! I am just 1.5 pounds away from that beautiful 40 pound clippie and 2 days away from completing the 100 day cheat free challenge. Life on the Beach is good!!! :)

Bostonlass - I'm sorry to see you go but we all have to find the program that works for us individually. There is a lot of WW support on this board. I know you will have continued success. Take care!

Way to go Lisa. Keep going like that and you will hit goal in no time.

Still hanging at 33 pounds here....

Lisa~ Congrats on your continued success! You'll be at 40 pounds before you know it!

I started my third week cheat-free today and feel great! DH brought chocolate doughnuts into the house on Sat. and the smell was SO tempting...but I didn't cave. That was hard!:faint:

Hope you all have a happy and successful week!

Karin

P.S.- Lisa--We're neighbors. I'm in Lakewood:)

Wow! You all are doing great....30 lbs., 33 lbs., 40 lbs.! Makes my little 10 lb loss look like peanuts....LOL! I'm happy for all of you! :hyper:

I think I'm moving to The Beach....

I bought the book last night and skimmed what I thought were the important parts. Alot of it is just explaining the 'whys' and being with Atkins for so long I already understand all that. Those are the parts I skipped over. BUT, I'm still confused. For phase one can I eat anything that is on those lists in any quanity? I don't see anywhere that I should be counting carbs at all? So, I can have my occasional Latte' if I switch to fatfree milk? Am I understanding this correctly? I don't see mayo anywhere??? So I guess the egg/chicken/tuna salads are of the past now? Will this be reintroduced in a later phase? Hard cheese is something of the past too -- that will be a really hard one for me! I am planning on sticking to SB for one month. Two weeks of phase one and two weeks of phase two and then I will decide if I want to make it more 'Atkins Like' or maybe a combo of the two.

I'm sure that I will think of more questions.

I'm planning to start monday. And continuing with Atkins for this week yet.

wovenwonder-Welcome to the Beach. We each have to find the eating program and way of life that works for each of us. I think you will like it on the Beach. It has lot's to offer and to me is a healthy way of eating.

Well all. I finally stepped on the scale this morning and I am down another 2 pounds. That make 17 pounds total lost. I'm going in search of a new clippie!!!

Hi fellow Beachgoers! I'm checking for the day and seeing how you all are.

Jerry - hang in there. I don't know if men experience whooshes but if you do - I know one is coming your way. How is your wife doing on the Beach?

Karin - I applaud you girl!:teeth: Turning down those donuts is a wonderful accomplishment and what a great mindset to have. My son has been torturing me lately asking me to pick him up donuts when I go to the grocery store. Sometimes I buy them for him and sometimes I say no. I'm almost at 100 cheat free days but the smell of donuts is just inhumane punishment! Anyway, you keep up the good work, neighbor!

WeirdEyes - I'm sure we'll be celebrating your 30+ pound losses soon. Thanks for being so supportive!!!! :)

wovenwonder - Welcome to the Beach! I'm so excited for you that you'll be joining us Monday. I know several people on lowcarbfriends that have switched from Atkins to SBD and since they have already "detoxed" their bodies, they just started out on Phase 2. Just an idea you might want to consider. I'll try to answer your questions if I can.

You can eat anything from the acceptable list on Phase 1. We do not count calories, portions or carbs. You eat until you are satisfied. I still try to be aware of my portion sizes because I don't like that stuffed feeling so I make sure I stop eating way before I get to that point.

Yes on the latte. Frankly, I don't use fat free milk. I think it's funny tasting and it looks funny. I use 1% milk. But yes, the fat free milk is fine in your coffee. I enjoy a drink from Caribou Coffee called a skinny bou and it's made with either skim or fat free milk. It's yummy.

We are allowed mayo. I was eating bacon and tomato wrapped in lettuce leaves with lf mayo and tuna salad on Phase 1. Enjoy!

I'm not sure what you mean by hard cheese. We are allowed lf cheese and I've had american and sharp cheddar pretty frequently because they are might favs. I even make crustless pizzas once a week so I definitely enjoy mozzerella, parmesean and romano cheeses too.

I hope I answered your basic questions. I think you will love it on the Beach! Frankly, I see quite a few similarities between SBD and Atkins and take a lot of my recipes from the lowcarbfriends.com website. If you have anymore questions, just ask. Someone will be happy to help you. I wish you much success! :)

Lisa,
Thanks for the vote of confidence! I actually have 15 more lbs to my goal, but boy, if I could lose 30 more lbs., I'd be skinny & could probably fit into a size 6!!! DH would think that was too small. He likes me to have a little meat on my bones...LOL! I lost 40 lbs pre-South Beach and my clippie doesn't reflect that loss.

You are doing wonderful and you should really be proud of yourself!

Well...

Still "stuck" on 10 pounds (and being very good), but had reaffirming experience this weekend.

I really needed some new jeans for vacation (2 weeks from now), so I went shopping this weekend. Have worn size 16 pants/jeans for about 5 years...

Tried on size 16 jeans. Too big? Way too big. That can't be right. Must just be the pair. Tried on another style of size 16 jeans. Way too big!

Tried on size 14 jeans. Fit perfectly! That can't be right. Must just be the pair. Tried on another style. Size 14 fit again! Hallelujah!!!

Need new khakis too. Like Dockers but Levis (IMHO) always run "small." Tried on size 16 Dockers. Yep, you guessed it: TOO BIG!!! Tried on size 14 Dockers. Fit perfectly!

Lesson learned --- there must be "something" to this fat turning to muscle thing after all. Changes are happening to my body even if they aren't showing up on the scale. I need to rejoice in the fact that I have more energy than before, that my skin looks better, that I have lost 10 pounds, AND that I have gone down one whole pants size!!!

:sunny:

That is soooooo wonderful, Dodie! I hope you enjoy your new jeans!

:jumping1: Dodie I betcha shopping was really fun. Congratulations. It feels good doesn't it::yes::

Good for you Dodie!

You must feel so good. I know you'll be wearing a size 12 in no time! :)
