SOTMK/Magicband question

Last trip my son started playing Sorcerers of the Magic Kingdom for the first time. While we were going through the training thing, the CM kept making a point of saying everything was tied to "THIS BAND."

Does that really mean that specific magicband? Or just "connected" in the way that everything else is linked to magic bands?

Do I have to figure out what MB my son was wearing at the time or can we just take the new ones we got for this trip (our last new set as we have complete sets now)?

Also, we were in the middle of a game when the whole SOTMK system crapped out (it was during Xmas parade filming which another player suggested may have had something to do with it). Would we be able to start from where we were or should we go back to the firehouse?

Lastly, how bad is the game to play on super busy days (like crowd calendar 9's)? We're there the next few days and thinking maybe when it gets super crowded we can just play for a little while rather than ride. Is that a bad idea?

Yes, SOTMK is tied to the specific MagicBand (or RFID Card) that was used.

As Michael said, it's on THAT band, means if you can't figure out which one (we never can) you have to start a new game. That said, they are usually willing to start your new game on whatever level you want and you can use all your cards!

Aaack!!!! I had no clue we had to use the same bands. I thought it was tied to my MDE account. I just went through a purge of deactivating and throwing bands away. I think I kept the ones we used. I'll write it in sharpie on the band when we go in March.

1. Yes. The game is attached to a specific band/card rather than the MDX account. When the game was first released they gave out key cards that held the game - the MB is now the key card

2. If you know what band he was wearing, then bring that and the CM can transfer it to a new one if you want.

3. Were you on Main Street when the system stopped working? They do get turned off periodically for different events. (the train station is turned off for the duration of the flag ceremony for example)

3.5 Theoretically, yes. The system does have a 6 month (I believe, maybe someone else can correct me) time out period, so if the game hasn't been played in that time, then you have to start over. If you have the same band and are within the limit, then you pick back up where you started.

4. The deepest I have ever seen a line for a portal is 4 groups, and that's what I could consider a busy day. Depending on where the groups are in the game, that could be a 20 minute wait. The biggest issue I ever encountered on busy days was people sitting/standing near the portals not realizing what they are and blocking the game.

Thanks for the info guys. I didn't realize it was tied to a specific MB. We will be playing it for the first time next month. I will have DS use a band that's identifiable.

We last played in 2014 and used a SOTMK card, not a band. Will that still work?

The card will work, but the game you last played may not be active. The CM would just start a new game on the card for you

I could never get the MB to work this past fall. We still just used the key card from the year before, and it worked fine.

What happens if you deactivate the MB, can I go back and reactivate it or is it "game over" for me? Did I just lose everything?

Yes. That specific magic band. We kept getting confused because we have multiple bands. In the end, we wound up with three separate games going on different bands.
