MotherFletcher best of luck to you and your family. I hope your not in the eye of it....

You should be fine on Saturday. Most of the activity is supposed to occur Friday from 10am on.

I'm watching this closely because we're going to Universal on Saturday and Sunday for it will be my aunt's last chance to go for a long time (she may be moving to Colorado).

However...I have two words: Hurricane Day...?!! :p :p :p Eh, I don't have my hopes up, but I've forgotten how hard these early mornings are, and wouldn't mind hearing school's cancelled on Friday ;)

Goodluck to everyone in the path of Charley, and Bonnie as well!

It won't stay in the area for 5 days.

I can't predict what will happen, but most likely, it will quickly move into George once it hits land in Florida. There is a strong current pulling both storms to the north east.

It would be a real bummer if you canceled, lost most of your money due to not getting refunds on your plane rides, and hotel stays, then found out the weather is perfect.

Because once the storms pass, there will be perfect weather behind them.

It appears our prayers have been answered and we will not get the direct hit as predicted. Living on the coast is a blessing and a curse as we are expected to get a 8-10' storm surge in my neighborhood. My hurricane experience has been that you run from water and hide from wind. I want to run to USO before I-75 gets gridlocked but my wife is stuck working at the hospital and doesn't want to be left alone. We are currently under a voluntary evacuation that may be changed to mandatory at 9 this morning.
There must be some cancelations in Orlando because the Peabody is available for $102/night.

Flyfly-
Ya'll are not out of the woods there. In fact it looks like you have a pretty good chance of meeting Charley up close and personal. Schools that have already opened here have mostly closed for Friday.

Barry is in Penn. I hope his property is secured!

HELPDESKGUY-
You should be OK. Saturday's forecast here is sunny skies. Based on the speed that its traveling I think the heavy rains would hit Orlando early Saturday morning. You should be able to get an upgrade from all the cancelations. The most fun we have ever had at a theme park was touring during hurricane rains. The park will be yours. Good luck and stay tuned to the weather channel.

bratray-
Thanks for your thoughts and prayers.

:umbrella: :umbrella: :duck:

We'[re leaving Friday driving down. I am not looking forward to driving thru rain the entire way. I'm hoping for the best. Also praying for all of you who live near where the storm will hit.

I'm very excited. Bring on Charlie.

This will be first real Florida Hurricane. I went through Isabel in DC last year but I have a feeling this one might be a lot cooler.

My prayers are with all that no one gets hurt or loses anything.

My plans are to sit and watch it all go by. Maybe take in Universal like some of you have been saying (since I live 2 miles up the street!) :cool1::hyper:

Hope most people get through this without too much damage

What are they predictign weather wise for Saturday? I never trust cnn or weather channel only the locals!

Orange (Orlando), Seminole, Osceola (Kissimmee), Lake, and Daytona county schools have been closed for tomorrow. Haven't heard from Hillsborough (Tampa) yet. Charley should hit Orlando a little after 11:00 PM Friday evening. So far, no park closings as both my sons are scheduled to work Friday and Saturday at Universal.

Tampa and Ocala are supposed to be in the eye. Orlando will be on the outer edge of the eye. There is a possibility of a cold front pushing it further west and missing Orlando.

Skies should be clear on Saturday but if we have a major power outage then I can't imagine that the parks would be open here in Orlando.

I'll post here late tonight and let you know if there have been an announcement of park closures. I pick up my son at 11:30 PM tonight so he would likely hear something by then.

I just wanted to wish good luck to all our Floridian DISers who are awaiting Charley's arrival. Please let us know how you all did after it passes through so we can keep tabs on everyone.

We're expecting some fallout from Charley here on the South Carolina coast also, probably Saturday morning. I guess it's better for us that it's coming up from the south and not hitting us from the east so storm surge won't be the problem for us that it may be for those on Florida's gulf coast.

Prayers and good wishes to everyone in the storm's path.

Hey Phamton...does one of your sons work on the Mummy? I think I might know him. (If it's the same person I am thinking of!)

(Sorry, I know it's off topic but I was just curious.)

BRING ON CHARLIE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We're flying into Tampa from L.I. on Sunday morning. I know the storm will be over in FL by then, but I'm a little concerned about what it will be doing in my area then and how it will affect air travel here. Usually I'd be more excited about the hurricane- I am one of those people who enjoy a good storm, but not this time! Hope everyone will be OK.:wave2:

Yes, he works at the Mummy. His name is David Hamilton. My youngest son works at Spiderman.
