sore thoat on ONE side

I have one spot on my left tonsil that hurts Its kind of white so I was thinking strep but now im not so sure. It hurts on that side to swallow. So any ideas? TIA
This has only been going on for two days now.

Both times I've had a sore throat only on one side I had strep. I also had a headache and was really run down though. And by the second day it had spread to the other side.

If you want to completely gross yourself out, google "tonsil stones" or "tonsillolith". That may be what you are experiencing.

anytime my throat starts hurting I pull the old vaperisor out it helps make it feel better. Even when I have had strep it helps.

Humm i hope its tonsil stones. I'll con mom into looking into my throat when she comes tommrow. She's pretty good at figurin out when I have strep. I think it may be strep since Im very phlemly

Could this be from post nasel drip? Ive been having issues with allergies for a week or so and have been sleeping on two huge pillows insted of my one tiny one to help dranage of the sinunes

I tend to get a sore throat on just one side if that side is more drippy from nasal drip than the other. Usually it goes away in a day but anymore than that and it usually means strep for me.

Is your one tonsil swollen? I had tonsillitis and after a round of antibiotics, it came back in only one. I had an abcessed tonsil and had to have it surgically drained. If it starts to get swollen (and it will take a few days) go to a doctor ASAP. You don't wnat to have surgery when it's something they can do in-office.

Me too -drives me crazy. Warm salt water gargles, use a neti pot to help with the post nasal drip - and if any possibility of strep, get it cultured before you start antibiotics. Hope you feel better!

I had a flu a few weeks ago that one of the systems was a sore throat on one side (later the side changed) so in a weird sort of way, strep is better because you can treat it and not have to wait it out like the flu.

It could be strep. But if your nose is stuffy, drainage from your sinuses will make your throat hurt, sometimes just one side.

My DD's throat looked just like that last week. We took her to the doctor, and he confirmed strep.
