I can't help with the TX5 specifically, but I've had a TX1 for a while, and it's a solid, fun little camera (the TX1 is identical to the TX5 with regards to the sensor and lens - just not waterproofed).
One particularly nice function that I strongly encourage you to use is the HHT mode, known as 'hand-held twilight'. If you learn a decent, steady stance, it will allow you to take photos handheld at night or in very low light that will come out much better than other compact cameras can do...it's a nice selling feature as it makes the camera more versatile. Also, remember the touch screen controls can be customized - you can choose which 4 functions you want to access down the left side of the screen, so whatever functions you most want to use are available with a single touch...it's a very nice advantage to touch screen controls, as you can put simple things there when you're not very experienced with cameras (like smile shutter, face detection, flash) or put more advanced things there when you are more skilled with cameras (like ISO, focus area, white balance, metering mode).
