Anyone care for roasted penguin for dinner?!?

Look closely at the bear holding the beverage, he's blowing smoke rings. :lmao:

Hey Homies!
There is absolutely NO WAY for me to "ketchup" around here!!! We've got to get our router installed, so I can have my connection back! The boys have had the internet tied up on Xbox Live for weeks! I'm just popping in to say a quick "hello" before they kick me off! Someone is going to have to supply me with the Cliff Notes! I hope everyone is doing ok!

Hi Allison!

I made my son buy a router so he can play Xbox live. Now, before you think I'm some mean parent, he IS 20 years old, has a full time job, saving for tech school, ect.... After all, I pay the cable bill, so I am paying for the bandwith ;)

Not mean at all. They need to have some responsiblity.

No, I don't think that's mean, he's 20 years old! I can see our kids living with us at 20 or so... The way I see it is that if they are trying to do well enough to get out on their own, why not help them out and give them a better chance at it?
Our kids are 10 and 13. We have had a couple of routers and they went out on us....so we just bought a new one and DH is the one who hooks up all the electronic stuff. I probably could do it, but it's best if I let him do it when he gets time...

Tell him to hurry up. We miss you.

We use a router too. Have all 4 computers hooked on to it. It sure has made our life easier. DS (my resident computer geek) also made it so we can share each others printers. I have a super photo printer, DH has a laser printer, kids have cheapo printers. So they use DH's all the time!
Here's a photo of DS building a new computer for himself. Notice the clear case. It has blue lights in it, pretty cool!
He also built a server (not sure why :confused3) that resides in his closet...has 3 monitors hooked up on his desk (again, I don't know why! :confused3 )
DSCN0199.jpg

Being networked is great. The computer he built is very cool and the server is a good thing too. But have you ever worked with a computer with multiple monitors? It is the best way to work on a computer!

Hmm, wonder what he is smokin?

Hey, ya'll!

Haven't been around for a while, so thought I'd drop in and say Hello! Happy New Year! to everyone.

I seem to have dropped in on a discussion about modems, and routers, and other such techie stuff. . . but I really just wanted to whine a while about my new years resolution.

If I were on the other side of the boards, I would tell you all about being Pooh sized, but since I'm not, I'll just tell ya'll that I'm Fiona sized and my resolution, since I turned 40 in December, is to lose the weight FOREVER!!! I think that I might just have the motivation or whatever it takes to actually do this, because IT IS THE HARDEST THING I THINK I HAVE EVER DONE!!! I've quite smoking, given birth and other similar painful and difficult things in my OLD AGE - but I have been a complete and total rippin' biatch for the past couple days. The first few days were ok (I actually started with the lifestyle change prior to the 1st), and I started taking the FDA approved weight loss aid known as Alli on the 1st - but I honestly feel like I've been in withdrawl for the past couple days! I've never felt like this before, but then again I don't remember ever being so committed to doing this. IT IS SO FREAKING HARD!!!! I have a very good friend who is a recovering alcoholic and we have had many discussions regarding addiction. I have told her, and this confirms it, that I believe food addiction is more difficult to deal with than any other addiction (ok, I've had a couple) because you can't just stop eating. You can stop smoking, drinking, using drugs, shopping or whatever you are addicted to, but you can't stop eating. I'm not saying it's easy to stop doing any of those things, like I said, I've had to quit a couple (smoke free for 13 years this month!!!). I almost snapped my DH's neck last night for bringing a plate of fried chicken and potato salad into the room where I was watching tv - poor guy had no clue what was happening. We had a long discussion today and now he understands and is 1,000% supportive - he just didn't realize what I am going through. To be honest, I didn't either until today. I realized that I'm battling an addiction I've had for 40 years (gosh, it's painful to say that) and that's why I'm crazy.

So, sorry for the very long rant, but I'm certain there's others here who can feel my pain. . . I'm not much into groups like overeaters anon, etc. I spent 4 hours today searcing for low fat recipes. If anyone has a really, truly, honestly good low fat/fat free recipe, please pm me!!!

I'M GOING TO DO THIS!!!!:cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2:

What foods do you not like? MY DH had a heart attack at 10 years ago, so I've got quite a few low fat recipes. Also, my DD is a vegetarian, and will only eat fish. So I've got some good fish recipes too.
Will the rest of your family also eat lowfat? It's so much easier if you don't have to prepare 2 different meals at the same time.

Hello All. Well, lucky me, I have started my working Saturdays from now until April 15. Didn't realize how tired I was until I just sat down.

Penny - sorry to hear about your family. Sending hugs :grouphug: :grouphug: your way.

Welcome ggddaaee!!!! Mac is right - this can be like our baby new year!:cool1:

Hey that is a great question. What is everyones favorite attraction?
I picked my screen name before we visited UO. But I will still leave it as one of my tops. Can you guess?

it's Football day in America; break out the chicken wings & loaded fries 40 degrees @ game time in Pittsburgh,
Yeah baby, getting my couch seat warmed up for the Steelers.

Regarding the router. We got a wireless router a few weeks ago. It is great. One of DS gifts was the internet connection for his Wii. If we didn't have the router, I would never get on!

But have you ever worked with a computer with multiple monitors? It is the best way to work on a computer!
Lori, I've seen this done at offices, and many folks also swear by this. Unfortunately, I cannot handle this, as I am the worst multi-tasker ever. We have laptops at the office with a docking station and a nice flatscreen monitor. Both of my monitors have to be set to show the same thing or I get confused and cannot function.:confused3

I would tell you all about being Pooh sized, but since I'm not, I'll just tell ya'll that I'm Fiona sized
I always like to say, I look like Fiona in her ogre state. :lmao: I also am trying (again) to lose weight this year. Who knows maybe this will be our year. Good luck. I for one have no will power, and the food cannot be in the house and me to be expected not to eat it. I understand how you feel.

I think I am caught up for now. Will hop over to the community board for a few laughs before the Steelers start.

-Jennifer

i see penguins:laughing: you mean the cokey-bears;)

ds must be a whiz, never knew anyone who built a computer:thumbsup2

we had a router, didn't like how it worked; switched over to verizon DSL and there's is working just fine for 2 desktops & laptop, wii, xbox 360 & i think the DS? Even when everything is running, it doesn't seem to slow down much; think it's a steal for less than $20/month.

seattle was winning big, took a bubble bath & now they're down:rolleyes1

off to enjoy my fruity drinky poo & watch what i hope isn't a fiasco @ 8 pmpopcorn::

i'm pulling for everyone to get/stay healthy this year; if losing weight is part of it...go for it!:cheer2:

I would most like to have simple, family friendly recipes that are really good. I don't want to cook 2 meals. . . that will only makes things even more difficult. My family could stand to eat healthier and lose a few pounds too. My family is really being very supportive.

I love chicken, fish, vegetables. I can have only15 grams of fat or less per meal or the Alli will have side effects. side effects that I am most definitely not interested in experiencing. So far, so good. Portion size has always been an issue for me, so I take a dinner plate and fill it with fresh veggies, then a small plate for whatever else I am having. Lots of smoked turkey sandwiches of varying forms, which I do like alot, but will get tired of if I don't add some variety. Right now basically all I have eaten is roasted chicken, smoked turkey, very small portions of smoked provolone with my sandwiches or pitas. Lots of salad and lots and lots of cut up veggies. Yogurt, smooties, fresh fruit, scrambled egg whites, melba rounds, and a couple of baked pretzel and pita chip items I found. Also, I can have limited amounts of sweets such as a little hard candy or licorice. Oh, yesterday I had some pretty good low-fat homemade turkey vegetable noodle soup. As you can see, I need a variety because while everything I have eaten is very healthy, I will grow quickly tired of just a few items.

I'm going to try to stay completely away from red meat for a bit. Maybe on vacation I will have a hamburger!

Ooops, I did mean the bear!

Nope, not a whiz, just has an interest in computer stuff. Comes in handy sometimes. :thumbsup2

Yep, sounds like it's working out good for you.

I'm back. You guys managed to fill 12 pages while I was gone! :scared1:

I'm not complaining. I'll have to wait to ketchup until tomorrow. My @ss is too tired of sitting to stay plunked in this chair for long. We had to take a different route home (don't ask, I'll get into it later) and it added almost an hour to our trip. Ugh.

We survived. The Irish and the Italians didn't come to blows (I was kinda hoping :rolleyes1 ). The boys did their thing. We're home. I have a ton of pictures, but I haven't got the energy to get them all ready to go. Here's a shot of the little guys to get things started:

got a call this morning.
My sister died in Oct 99 from cancer.
Her husband died last january, complications of many things.
Her son, my nephew, age 34, died of a heart attack last night.
He was the youngest of 4 boys.
:sad1:

Penny....that is awful news  That is WAY TOO young to leave this Earth :sad2: What a terrible thing for your family to have to go thru.... I'm speechless, but feel so sorry/sad for your loss :guilty:

Sorry about the Saturdays. April 15th will be here before we know it. :headache:

I'm thinking your favorite ride must be...

Jimmy Neutron! JK, is it Jaws??????

The double monitor works very well when you are doing something like publishing a magazine, like I help my sister with, or working on websites & such. It saves so much time!

Stellers are really stinkin it up right now. Guess I'm gonna have to stop cheering for y'alls teams. I seem to be giving them our jinx! Sorry.:rolleyes1

That is a great shot of the boys, Tricia! Real rings on the pillow? The bride and groom were brave!

I know I have a lot of catching up to do. I hope everyone had a wonderful New Years!

But, I just wanted to share my only uploaded pic of the newest member of our family.

This is Mike and Savannah just before we adopted her at our local SPCA.

CIMG1705.jpg

Alex was not doing well without a buddy. So far it's been a slow process of getting him adjusted, but that of course is to be expected. We are enjoying every second of her. More pics to follow! Don't get me started on my antiquated cable company who only offers dial-up for uploads (cable modem for downloads). Service Electric sux!

throw another potatoe in the pot..........we are up to 5 Leo's now.......

oh...so now we're potatoes hmmmmm ............ :snooty:

Hi everyone....this is my first post! ..... Anyways, hello!

Welcome....we have a few 'workers' around here ;) ...do you have a name or nickname we can call you by instead of 'ggddaaee'???

Actually Mikey started playing baseball at the same time Chris did. He was only 3 at the time. This will be his 14th year to play. We have been travleing between the kids for that many years. Most games around here are not that far away. The majority are less than 30 minutes one way. I am so glad Mikey decided that he only want's to play baseball now. We don't have to do the football & basketball games unless we want to. Since Chris graduated 4 years ago we have probably only been to 5 football games. Haven't been to any basketball games. Can't say that I miss it either.

:faint: I'll let you share my son so you can be my 'soccer Mom' partner and you won't feel 'left out' :rolleyes1

i see someone here has been inside the new kwik e mart....
like the avator.

so kewl

I  router too.... allows me & my laptop to write this in bed :goodvibes My DH is computer geek too.... he built Bubba's from scratch when Bubba was a little over 1 year old....he's had his own computer since! (Bubba's "upgrades" are DH's old computer when he gets a new one....the one Bubba uses now is only about a year old....kid has got a great pc...and another hard drive on it now :rolleyes1 ) The last pc DH bought just before last Christmas ('06) has the green, red & blue lights in it that illuminate the room when it's dark....use it for a nightlight :rotfl: (DH doesn't 'shut down' his pc each night...stays on all the time)

Hey, ya'll!

Haven't been around for a while, so thought I'd drop in and say Hello! Happy New Year! to everyone.

. . . but I really just wanted to whine a while about my new years resolution.

I'M GOING TO DO THIS!!!!:cheer2: :cheer2:

Portion size has always been an issue for me, so I take a dinner plate and fill it with fresh veggies, then a small plate for whatever else I am having.

As you can see, I need a variety because while everything I have eaten is very healthy, I will grow quickly tired of just a few items.

I'm going to try to stay completely away from red meat for a bit. Maybe on vacation I will have a hamburger!

To wwessing & Jennifer.... the key to losing weight is 'portion control'...that's it. I've been there and done that. Do NOT deny yourself ANY food...you will only want it more and do more damage in the long run. wwess...don't use 2 plates, use 1. Use a luncheon plate, fill half to 3/4 with veggies. Fill the other half to 1/4 with your protein (fish, chicken)... NO starch (potato, noodles, stuffing [or maybe a teaspoon for taste]) and NO soda...not even diet!!! I agree.....stay away from the red meat for while.....

By 'filling' a smaller plate, the 'visual' trick is a full plate equals a full belly ;) ANY bread you eat, make it whole grain or wheat. And....here's the trick to snacking and desserts.... prepare to eat what you would normally eat...then, put half of it away. Then, eat the other half. So, now you are saving money too...instead of 1 dessert a night, you get 2 desserts out of 1. Yes, you will feel hungry...and ya know what?? IT'S OKAY TO FEEL HUNGRY! Drink water to 'fill you up' or have fruit. When I did it, I only felt 'hungry' for about 2 weeks....then it stopped because my stomach was shrinking. When you feel hungry, think to yourself (like i did), "C'mon body...you have extra energy stored on this body...USE IT! ....eventually, in about 3 months, it worked.... i was down 30lbs. I refused to weigh myself throughout the process, but I started to notice my jeans were 'loose' one day :goodvibes I know what my heaviest weight was and what i got down to and what i am now..... I am now thinner than when I got married (14.5 yrs ago) and my wedding dress is too big! :rotfl2: Now my focus is on 'toning' and i work out regularly....usually while watching tv.... have to get DH to hook up a dvd player to the downstairs tv so i can plunk a dvd in and workout now since the writers strike is screwing my schedule up :headache:

Anyhow....we are all your support here...feel free to 'use' us anytime.... :grouphug: And remember this phrase I once heard: "Nothing tastes better than skinny."

You know that thing that kids do where you pat your head and rub your stomach at the same time? Don't laugh, but i can't do it to save my life!!

video proof please :rolleyes1
