I'd love to be more sociable, but I have a paper to type. No wait, that's my son's job! Actually DS14 is going crazy right now with the play coming up in a few weeks. They're just having WAY too long of practices and he's not having time to do homework. They were having more down time so he was getting some done before at least.

Now they have some 5th and 6th graders in the play as some of the "children". As a result, some of the older kids have younger kids assigned to them to keep an eye on. Unfortunately the kid he got is one who's determined to cause as much trouble as he can and he spends all his free time chasing after this kid trying to keep him out of trouble, and not being able to do homework. I'm about to either go along and strangle this child for him (!!) or at least email the teacher/director and explain that my son signed up because he wanted to act, not babysit!

So this week he had practice on Monday and Tuesday from 3:45 until 8:45, yesterday until 5:30, but then had religious ed from 6-8:15 and tonight had practice until 5 and then marching band for the football game right from there (where we're under tornado and severe thunderstorm warnings!). So he did as much writing as he could whenever he had a chance, but the essay is due tomorrow (typed) so I promised to type it for him! Next week won't be too bad for him because it's a short week (teachers' conventions), but the following 2 weeks are pretty much all play, all the time! Then it will be over - hallelujah! So I'm off to type - luckily that's one thing I do pretty well!

What else is going on.... Oh, ok, mommy brag... do any of you get Nick Magazine? In hte November issue, Matthew had his quote published from the Say What caption! :cool1: :yay: Say What is a funny picture that has the empty caption and you fill in hte caption and mail it in. Well Matthew's caption got picked and published  . Just found out when we got our Nick mag a couple of days ago! It's not much, but Matthew is thrilled! Oh, it's on page 74 of the November issue of Nick
mag.

Ok, that's enough from me.

Have a good day everyone!

I am going to have to look for this! Congrats!

Janet/Jodie - we went through that when we went on a cruise several years ago. Kids researched all the ports of call, some of the shore excursions we were doing (stingrays, dolphins) and made up great reports beforehand. Then we left on the cruise and due to not 1, not 2, but THREE hurricane deviations, we didn't make it to a single scheduled port of call! Talk about messing up all your pre-trip planning! Yes we were scrambling on the ship trying to get info on the ports we were making it into (in days of driving rain!) so they'd have it for school. And yes the internet is ridiculously expensive and not at all reliable!

Janet - are you doing DCL this time? I thought it was Carnival, but maybe that's another trip?

And yes, I'm typing a paper here simultaneously. Well, trying to at least!

Oh boy, I guess that will teach you to cruise during Hurricane Season! ;) That must have been QUITE the scramble!

Janet, I'm sorry. I don't know why I assumed it was DCL. Can I just play the blonde card? :rolleyes1

You can bet we'll NEVER do that again. Remember Hurricane Ivan, back in 2004 (Sept). Well, we were following it, about 2 days behind, as it went into and destroyed Grand Cayman and much of Jamaica (both of which we were supposed to visit). After the first day, they switched our itinerary to an Eastern one. We made it to San Juan okay, but by late afternoon, Hurricane Jeanne was coming from the opposite direction.

We got into St. Maarten at about the same time (it was then a tropical storm) and sat in driving rain as all excursions were cancelled. Then for some inexplicable reason, we followed Jeanne to St. Thomas. We have some of it on film - sailing in the darkness, following the storm in which you could see all the constant lightning in the distance. We didn't even bother getting off the ship there.

As Jeanne kept going the opposite direction, we started back up the Atlantic seaboard towards NY, just in time to hit Ivan coming back from the opposite direction. Had 20 foot seas the last sea day. DS and I went up to the pool and actually saw people being hurled out of the pool into the glass wall near it (this was on the Voyager of the Seas - Royal Caribbean) before they quickly closed it down.

Did I mention never again during Hurricane Season?

Oh, no! Emailing homework from the ships?! Doesn't the school know how much DCL costs and they want you to pay for Internet access on top of that?!

But does he seriously have to do Power Point presentations for his social studies class? Algebra II is 10th grade, right? Slide 1: The Social Conundrums of Pirate Night. Slide 2: The Peter Pan Syndrome Slide 3: Psuedo-societies on DCL: DISers v. Non-DISers. The possibilities are endless. (Of course, I assume he'll be doing presentations on ports of call -- he should do all that crud before hand -- ave. GDP, population, all that garbage you're supposed to care about in Social Studies)

ha - does my 1st DCL count:sad1: ; nope...we're trying Carnival.:scared1: I keep telling myself i can go on 3 Carnival western cruises for what it would cost for 1 DCL eastern; shall let you know if i murder the 1st belly flopper/hairy chest/conga lining idjit that gets in my sun whilst i work on my tan.:lmao:

still the internet $ is outrageous, i'd rather have him call it in @ $1.95 a min on cell (cheaper lol).

he's been doing powerpoints since 7th grade (not that i'd be able to figure it out). His group won a regional award last year for one that tried to figure out the mystery of where The Simpson's Springfield is located based on clues given out over the yearspopcorn:: . He's in 9th grade, taking AII. Teachers today suggested he take Trig this summer and give up his elective subject (art) & take Biology this year...think we're going to pass. Let him have some fun, it'll all wait for him.

Believe I'll pass on your idea of getting the bulk done 1st though.:thumbsup2

marci - i'm still waiting for new excursions, we're the only sailing with different port days; have a feeling it's going to flip again.:headache:

penny - my peep, not a day goes by when a pair of crocs isn't on me feet.

Hey Mac, it's so nice to see a picture of you!

I pictured you as having short, brown hair for some reason! Obviously I was way off the mark! :rotfl:

and the most important question lynne, did you visualize me as really fat, kind of fat or regular, or thin?

i have been all 4 at different points in my life.

Evening everyone!

Busy day, trying to catch up but there is no way I'll be able to address individually tonite.

Well Joe Torre is out.....wonder who his replacement will be? :confused3

Oh and my pumpkin disintegrated! It leaked everywhere! The ship has sunk!

Well I guess it's my turn to post a pic. Even tho you can see me (kinda) in my avatar, this one is a little better.

This is one of my favorites, it was taken 3 years ago at the end of our first swim season together.

Neither! I just visualised your head!

(I don't think I've ever said "I just visualised your head" in my entire life :rotfl:)

WOO HOO!!! :cool1:

Somebody new and they are from GEORGIA!!! :yay:

I'm so excited!!! :woohoo:

Okay, I excite easily. :rolleyes1

So, pull up a chair and stay awhile. Where in the state are you? I'm finally getting some rain here in my little corner. I'd almost forgotten what it looks like!

Yay! I am from Ga too. And we got a big rainshower early this morning - thank goodness!

tricia will be thrilled to find there are more peaches coming to town....

a quick buh bye, leaving now.

if any newbies come wandering in, welcome them for me. :teacher:

have a great weekend

It's Friday:banana:

happy trails to mac & mike (sounds like a radio talkshow - ha)

kfed great pic, whatta cute couple you make (the wedding pics will be fantastic)! nothing worse that a smooshy, stinky jack-o-lantern.

raining buckets here today-still mid 70's, we don't need the rain; shall send it down south posthaste:wizard: hope it stops before the Wolves :cheer2: game tomorrow afternoon, hope they don't get crushed by the prep school boys they're playing (they tend to use their need-based scholarships in a sports recruiting fashion:rolleyes1 ).

did you see the twisters that went thru pensacola area yesterday? :scared:

Happy Friday!

It's still raining here. I can't remember the last time I went to bed with it raining and woke up with it still raining. Boy, do we need it!

I know you guys are gone, but have fun Mac & Ak (nope, still sounds like a radio talk show)!!! :cool1:

Jodie - Let's not talk about sharing the bed. Brad fusses at me for being "burrito girl". Apparently, I hang on to the edge of the covers and then roll until I am completely surrounded and he has nothing. I don't do it on purpose. Really. :confused3

I loved your DCL Social Studies report! I will expect a full version after your next cruise... :lmao:

Marcie - I now have a vivid visual of someone getting sloshed out of the pool on the ship. I can't imagine how many doses of motion sickness meds were handed out that trip. We had some choppy seas on our Alaska cruise, but nothing like that!

Katie - Love the pic! And I saw the news about Joe Torre... hmmm...

Janet - I hope they get the ports on your cruise set... sometime... maybe before you sail...

Lynne - WHERE IS THE TAG FAIRY???

mslclark - Woo Hoo! Another Georgia person! :cool1: I know, I know... I'm easily excited...
We're up in the northeast corner of the state, right at the base of the foothills. We've had rain off and on for over a full day now! I know, I know... I'm easily excited...

I had bookkeeping last night, so I wasn't around much. I've got laundry and general picking up to do, but I should be checking in more today. Everyone have a great day!!!

We made it to the airport, traffic getting to Philly was HORRIBLE!!! When we checked our bags, we were told we are under an advisory with the possibility of a delay because of the pending storms here in PA. Now they are announcing that our plane is just landing that should have been here 15 minutes ago, so we might be a little delayed. No sweat, I've waited a year, I can wait 15 extra minutes! I'll check back later, maybe then I'll start an official ongoing trip report.

This is Mike, checking in from the Philly airport! (9:05AM)

I just saw a girl with a HHN16 shirt on............. nice!

Lynne - WHERE IS THE TAG FAIRY???

Yeah, where is the Tag Fairy when you need that darn :wizard: ?

my nomination for new tag!:thumbsup2 i'll take any extras:rotfl: that might fall outta her bag of tricks!
