cmbar :Well I suppose you have to define what "compare" means. Yes they don't compare.
I think the fact that the poster on the other thread stated ASM Suites offered "more" is where several of us find objection. It's simpy an unfounded statement to make ? If they had simply stated, i.e. : "they are a great alternative in terms of space and bedding for a larger family" and "easier on the budget", then I don't believe this current thread would exist.
To many of us, we really value the jacuzzi (and for the record, I sterilize it before I use it), washer/dryer, full kitchen and balcony. Sitting out on the balcony in the morning or late in the evening and just chillin' with some wine or a book is GOLDEN to me. The balcony is in no way used on rare occasion with us.
cmbar :Now, lets compare amenities. Bus service at BCV, BWV, WL, BLT and AKV, OKW and SSR... well just as many stops then at ASM... But they do have those nice covered porches. How about Quick Service meals. Ummm no comparison there. ASM has it all over the DVC resorts.
Respectfully, IMO, you only touched on a few amenities here.
Full service on-site restaurant is a biggie as well as quick service. And room service is a very nice option too---and I just don't mean pizza which you can get at ASM. AKV offers Mara; VWL offers Roaring Fork; BCV offers Beaches and Cream and the Marketplace; BLT offers the new quick service area (Contempo Cafe) which is a quick walk across the bridge to the Contemporary (don't need to go outside); OKW offers Goods To Go; SSR offers Artist Palette (did I forget any ?). And in addition, the DVC all offer full service restaurants so you don't have to leave the resort if you don't want to.
Valet parking at certain DVC resorts is a plus----also a plus for some, is the fact that certain DVC's are attached to a main resort (i.e. Contemp, BC, AKL,BWV, WL). This is nice for shopping/dining/activities on stormy or down days. Some of the DVC's offer boating, biking etc. Some offer kid's clubs and activities for children.
The ASM does not offer services such as sit down restaurants, marina, beach, recreational opportunities (such as bicycle rental, water sports, tennis), health club facilities,
So , respectfully, I think there are a bit more amenities with DVC than you give them credit for.
cmbar: I love my accomodations when I go, but in no way do I think that my accomodation which are three times as much as a Value are worth the cost of which they are charged based on accomodations.
Now see ? A difference of opinion. We do. If we didn't, we never would have invested so much into DVC. We much prefer the more luxurious or upscale feel of DVC to ASM Suites. I could never be happy/content vacationing in one of those Family Suites for a full vacation. Maybe a quick weekend trip, but that's it. The beds are not comfy at all for one thing.
While it is nice to have a one bedroom, it does not sleep more than four.
Square footage gives illusion that four to five people fit much more comfortably in a DVC one bedroom vs a Fam Suite at ASM :
AKV Kidani - 807
Jambo - 710
Value - 629
BCV - 726
BLT - 803
BWV - 712
OKW - 942
SSR - 714
VWL - 727
ASM Family Suite is 520 sq ft (I certainly would not feel comfortable with up to 5 or 6 in this room)
So BIG difference to us.....of course, this is just my humble opinion. I suppose opinions vary drastically person-to person on this entire issue. But I would not be a DVC'er if I felt we could be as happy and as comfortable as we are in our DVC accomodations as we would be in a Family Suite.
thanks
