Someone compared a 1BR villa to ASMU Family Suite

I think the fact that the poster on the other thread stated ASM Suites offered "more" is where several of us find objection. It's simpy an unfounded statement to make ? If they had simply stated, i.e. : "they are a great alternative in terms of space and bedding for a larger family" and "easier on the budget", then I don't believe this current thread would exist.
..........So , respectfully, I think there are a bit more amenities with DVC than you give them credit for.
thanks
Maria

excellent post, only edited for space:thumbsup2.

admittedly, we've only eaten at the values, but cannot see how even the resorts themselves could be considered comparable, let alone the rooms.
certain ammenities are definite decision makers, or breakers, in where we stay. atmosphere, balconies (non-negotiable- we use it frequently every day), full service restaurants, lounges/bars, and available activities and entertainment are part of what we want on our vacations.

i agree, OP's comments were not derisive in any way - she just opined as many others in that thread did.
and no, i'm not anyone's "homie" :)

Great, now I can't get this out of my head.

Maria please understand that this is all I have to go on as the post was not listed to reference.

Diane stated the following of the other poster.

Someone compared a 1BR villa to ASMU Family Suite

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

and said: We LOVE the suite - it's got MORE than a 1 BR villa at 1/3 the price, other than the stove and full size refrigerator which most people don't use anyway. Two toilets, two showers/bathtubs and room for 6. Best value on property!

Well we stayed in one of these ONE night on Thanksgiving night 2008 when we could NOT get SSR for our last night. After staying in a DVC 2br for 7 nights we moved over to ASMU for that last night of the trip. LET ME JUST SAY.... WHEN I READ THIS POST I GASPED!!!!! (changed adjective in order to NOT offend anyone else). We were miserable miserable miserable at ASMU after being at SSR.

If you read this you will see that what Diane stated was the comparison of the room and price. She did not mention the Resort level, the need for onsite restaurants and marinas. We all know that the Deluxes have more amenities than the Values. But what some DVCers are not willing to admit is that the Values offer different amenites that may be more important to some. From the post above the lady on the other site simply stated that the Suite has more than the 1bedroom and then listed why. She is right, it sleeps more, has two bathroom and costs a lot less. Seems to me there is nothing for Diane to be so sickened by. She then goes on to explain how horrid it was to stay at AS Mu. I think anyone here can see that she was venting and wanted the fellow DVC owners to agree. Many of you do but because of other reasons.

I do not. I think the values have great options and in some cases better than DVC. I very much love BLT and yes we found it extremely convenient and why I bought at BLT. But I don't begrude someone for liking OKW which in my opinon has very few amenities I want. In fact it has nothing I want because it is inconvenient, it has no food court except outside by the pool, it has a gazillion bus stops and from what I hear the beds are as hard as rocks. But some people love the place.

It is so funny to bring this up because I hear that some people were moved from Pop this week for Spring break to OKW and they were all excited and all I could think, was oh man I would be so mad if they moved me. (glad to hear it is an optional thing as we are scheduled to be at Pop in the summer near 4th of July). That part of our trip is all parks, I want fast food and fast bus service! In fact we are then scheduled to spend three nights at OKW to do the relaxing. Not looking forward to it now because I have done some research and this resort offers nothing I want.(all that is available) But I am sure it is lovely for some.

Again Respectfully, I think the original post was put out there to vent and I don't think Diane was meaning to be disrespectful and I am sure she was not mean on the other board, but some posts after that were making fun of the opinion of the AsMu suites. I can't imagine why that was necessary. I was simply pointing out that the Values have other things to consider. DVC is NOT the best options at Disney. It is one option and if I was paying out of pocket to go to Disney, no way I would fork over the money they ask for a one bedroom villa, just to get a jacuzzi and have to put my kids on a sofa. If I am paying out of pocket I am going deluxe like Poly or GF!

Just my opinion. But I agree that the post stated was all true and didn't need to be corrected. For what was stated, the lady is right. It is a great value for sleeping six, two bathroom and a good price.

Okay the funny thing is ...this thread that I was posting on is already on the bottom of page two on the resort board. No one else gave it another reply. It was NOT that big a deal. :confused3 I was on that board surfing threads on resorts.... because we are going to stay somewhere else on our arrival night in JULY because we are getting in so late instead of checking into our DVC 2br. that night. I saw the ASMU Family Suite thread and gave my opinion. YES it did surprise me that someone thought the suite was bigger. So shame on me if I felt like coming over to DVC and sharing that opinion. :rolleyes1

Go and read it....you will see....I was not rude in any form or fashion.

http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2434908

I went ahead and read it Denise. I agree. You were not at all rude. Just gave your opinion. I wouldn't sweat it at all. I didn't take any of this as mockery. Just a shocked DVCer about what you read.

Maria, you don't get it. The issue isn't which accommodation really does have the most ... fill-in-the-blank. It's that the OP opened up a thread over here ridiculing someone else's opinion on another thread and to call her DVC homies to action. THAT is the issue.

RobinB - as a "DVC homie" in question who also posted on that thread, I will politely say that Denise did not ask anyone else to go over there and post anything. I did that of my own free will, as I do when I post on numerous threads in numerous forums here on the DIS. When I see a thread that I'd like to reply to, I do. When I don't - I move on. When I do post I try not to be rude or disparage anyone else's opinions, and I try not to be "holier-than-thou" in my responses, especially considering my membership in the Vacation Club and some DIS'ers who are not members in DVC take that as an affront or "class warfare" (this has happened to me in the past).

Personally I have stayed at all levels of accomodations on-site, as well as many off-site resorts and as a result or nearly 50 trips to WDW, can and do share my observations from time to time. Sometimes my opinions & observations can present new and good information for the reader; sometimes they just rehash (or re-present) previously discussed or posted information by other DIS'ers - but no matter, it's always just my opinion, and never something that is posted by coercion from another DIS'er.

As I said in my post on that thread, DVC is not for every family - and I am very glad that WDW has provided the Family Suites at the All-Stars. I wish they would build out the rest of POP (on the other side of the lagoon) and build every room as a family suite - since the family greater than 4 is a truly underserved segment of the WDW-visiting population. I'm perfectly happy to stay in the values from time to time on my solo trips into the Orlando area, and have done so. They are a much needed part of the overall accomodation break-down at WDW. But we're also very happy with our DVC and our family finds what DVC offers to be just in line with our vacation needs/desires now.

If you read this you will see that what Diane stated was the comparison of the room and price. She did not mention the Resort level, the need for onsite restaurants and marinas.

cmbar,
I really do appreciate your post and explaining the stance you are taking and how you see it.

But, in reference to your first line quoted above.....one can not say what the person stated on the other thread without listing everything you just mentioned above. One cannot say the ASM Suites offers "more" fundamentally over DVC. There may be a preference for ASM, and that is fine. But to state ASM has "more" as if this is founded in concrete fact doesn't pass with me, if you can respectfully understand where I'm coming from. Would have been fine if the person on that thread stated "ASM Suites offers a lot of options and value for those on a budget" or something similar. But they did not state it like this. I feel they probably should have clarified much more on how exactly they feel the Suites offered "more". I'm not sure how better to explain what I'm trying to say.

True...no denying everyone has their preferences. Yes there are issues here and there with each DVC. But at least with DVC you can choose to stay in one of the resorts that suits one's specific needs for that trip. I will never see how ASM Suites offers "more" than DVC (except "more" budget friendly). That is it. But the person in that thread insinuated that ASM Suites went above and beyond DVC in what that room/resort offered. I simply don't see it. Again, I appreciate your breakdown, but if I felt a value resort would offer "more"....heck, even the "same" as a DVC, I would NEVER have become a Member. Staying DVC and staying Value are two entirely different ways to vacation and I can say this objectively because I've done both several times. I could never be happy in the ASM Suite with 6 people. Never. I've seen them and just not the space. But, for many people this is what fits their budget and I think it's awesome Disney has this offering. They should probably build more hotels like this. I do agree with stopher on this. Not that I'll be staying in them (if they're connected to a Value resort). I think we've been to WDW so often, that we're no longer "commando" guests.....we're more "stop and smell the roses" kind of guests and amenities are important to us. And your observation about OKW here :
But I don't begrude someone for liking OKW which in my opinon has very few amenities I want. In fact it has nothing I want because it is inconvenient, it has no food court except outside by the pool,
This is what I like about DVC. There are different resorts for each kind of DVC'er. We, personally, sold OKW to purchase AKV and BLT. Our preferences in what we wanted out of a vacation changed. Nothing against OKW---but I would still prefer to stay OKW over ASM Suites. OKW still has more than ASM. Food court & price is just about the only things ASM has over OKW if you ask me. But we like other things at OKW like the size of the rooms, the HUGE balcony, boat ride to DD, renting boats, renting bikes, tennis, fitness room etc. And we, personally, are willing to pay for those amenities. Those are what is important to us. We used to call outside restaurants for delivery to OKW when we owned there.

Others may have different opinions and I do respect everyone's viewpoint though I might not agree as in this case cmbar. But no hard feelings I hope. :goodvibes:hippie:

Respectfully, one more thing cmbar about your above statement. I don't think ANY of us begrudge anyone for liking any resort. I don't think Denise (or those of us who agreed with her), begrudge the person on that other thread for preferring ASM Suites. What all of us had issue with was that they made a statement that ASM offered "more" than the one bedroom DVC's. I'm pretty sure for Denise, myself and others....that is the issue with this whole topic. I'm happy they liked ASM Suites....just not happy that they made an unfounded statements in how they compared the two. Simple as that.

Thanks,
Maria
