Hi everyone:

Due to circumstances beyond our control, we are having to make some major changes to DISCon II for this year. Before I go into the details, let me explain exactly what has happened.

Last year, we had nearly 200 people sign up for DISCon. We expected that we would have close to that number this year, and we were wrong (we had less than half that). As a result, I was going to have to put in $12K of my own money to cover the contract we had with the Swan & Dolphin. While I was willing to do that, I wasn’t able to do it all at once. The Swan/Dolphin did try to work with us, but we were unable to reach an agreement that I could honor in the timeframe necessary. Believe me, If I’d had the $12,000 lying around, this would be a non issue (last year’s event cost me much more than that, so I considered this a positive thing). The bottom line is this: the price was just out of the reach of many people on the site. These events are priced for major corporations that are throwing huge lavish parties, not for a website with lots of good fans. Everything possible was done to avoid making these changes. Cathy McConnell did an amazing job under some very trying circumstances in working to get this all figured out. In the end, it comes down to money.

The event everyone seems to be most excited about (and our most popular event from last year), the Illuminations Dessert party is still on.

Everyone will be getting a refund of what they paid, less the amount of the Illuminations party . Some money has already been laid out for the event, and the refunds on that money are going to come from my pocket. We had transferred money from the PayPal account to the checking account where the payments were going to come from. We now have to transfer that money back to PayPal, and that takes 4 to 7 business days to happen. Once that money is back in PayPal, we will start issuing refunds.

As far as details of how the amended itinerary will work:

Those who signed up for the weekend event will be met at the handicapped entrance to the private viewing area at Epcot for the dessert party on Friday Night(between France and England) and you will receive your pin, lanyard, etc at that time.

Those of you with reservations at the Swan/Dolphin for the event, your rate is safe with them. As a matter of fact, the Swan/Dolphin is opening up that rate to anyone who wants it ($129 per night – Check in Nov 30th or later, check out by Dec 7th).

All of the prizes that were secured for the event are still being given out. Those prizes are:

- 3 Night Cruise from Dreams Unlimited Travel
- 3 Day / Night stays at the following hotels (1 each)
Grosvenor Resort at Downtown Disney
Courtyard by Marriott at Downtown Disney
Sheraton Safari Lake Buena Vista
Holiday Inn Maingate East
Howard Johnson Maingate East
Rodeway Inn
Best Western Plaza International
Best Western Movieland

- Snow Globe from Presentations: Gifts of a Lifetime
- Gift Basket from The Perfect Gift

We have set up times and locations for everyone to get their pins and lanyards, as well as a few other meets. They are as follows:

Wed Dec 4th – Meet at Boardwalk (Courtyard) from 7pm – 9pm. Pick up pins, lanyards, scavenger hunt info, and a list of all mini-meets taking place

Thu Dec 5th – Various mini-meets around WDW property, including Jay’s Drink Around the World meet at Epcot

Friday, Dec 6th – Illuminations Dessert party at 8pm

Saturday Dec 7th – Mystery Dinner Theater at Grosvenor Resort at Downtown Disney (you can take a bus to DTD and walk across the street to get to this). We’ve negotiated a rate of $25 per person for this, and it is optional. If you don’t want to go, let me know via email (webmaster@wdwinfo.com). If I don’t hear from you, I’ll assume that you will attend, and the $25 will be deducted from the refund. Please note that this is an all you can eat Prime Rib buffet with unlimited beer and wine. The menu for this dinner is awesome, and it normally sells for more than $40 per person. It’s a great deal, a great show, and a great dinner. We will be awarding the free Cruise prize the night of this event. The full menu for this event is located HERE

I realize that this is not quite what everyone had hoped for, and I don’t blame anyone for being upset about it. Believe me, no one is more upset about it than Cathy or I right now. We tried everything we could to bridge the gap, but we also have to understand that Swan/Dolphin is running a business, and can’t necessarily extend terms for an amount as high as $12,000. Things in Orlando are too tight right now for all of us, and this is just the reality. I would ask of all you to please try and understand. We wanted to throw an awesome party, but it just wasn’t meant to be. Again, I am truly sorry, but I still think we can all have a great time.

Thanks for understanding.

Pete

Pete, I'm really sorry to hear about this. I certainly understand that you can't pay out that much $$$ yourself, nor should you have to. I also appreciate all that you & Cathy have done to try & keep DIS-CON alive. Please include my DH, Barry, & I in your plans for the Sat night dinner at Grosvenor. Prime rib works for us! With all the mini-meets that have been scheduled, I'm sure we will all have a great time anyways.
I'm a little confused about how the refund through PayPal will work. I paid by credit card, and do not expect to use Pay Pal for any other transactions. Will the refund be applied to my credit card, or will I have to use my PayPal account to spend this money? I've actually paid the charge card bill already, so maybe I could get the money from PayPal into my checking account. I've never used PayPal for anything before, so any help I can get with this would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Nancy:

If you paid PayPal with a credit card, the refund will be applied right to your credit card. Thanks for being so understanding. You have no earthly idea how upset Cathy and I are right now.

Thanks again.
Pete

So Sorry to hear this, Pete.

How soon do you need to know about the Mystery Dinner Theater?

Don't you worry Pete or Cathy, we are going to have a great time no matter what. As long as we're all together somewhere, it will be fine :)

Not upset here, I think it still sounds like a lot of fun and I still can't wait to come. :) The Mystery Dinner Theater sounds very cool too. :)

The sooner the better on the Mystery dinner theater. I have to make payment on it next week.

Thanks,
Pete

Count me in for the Mystery Dinner :)

All that matters is that we are there together in friendship.

I'm really so sorry about this, guys, we tried and hoped that more people would sign up. :( And please add Marsha to the list of the "really sad and upset". She poured her heart and soul into this for 2 years.

Thanks for being so understanding. I can't wait to see those I know and meet those I haven't met!!

Cathy

Sometimes we just have to roll with the punches. Know that Dave and I really appreciate all the time and effort that you folks put into this. We'll still be there, we'll still meet lots of fellow Dissers, we'll still have a great time!! AND I CAN'T WAIT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks Pete. I know I share in your feelings about the restructuring of DIS Con, but I among so many others understand completely.

Personally, I am still all kinds of excited! We're going to have a great time guys - the Illuminations dessert party is personally the highlight of my trip, and that Mystery dinner theater sounds fun - and comfort food to boot(count me in for that, by the way!)! Plus, heck we're in WDW -- the official land of fun! :)

I can't wait to see all my DIS pals and meet all sorts of new ones!! I have had a really crazy week at work -- this trip can't come quick enough! :)

See you all soon! :earsboy: :earsboy: :earsboy: :earsboy:

This is going to still work :) I am still going to see so many friends, I am still doing the thrill tours, I am still seeing Illuminations at the fancy island and the dinner sounds wonderful. Still have Jellyrolls, DATW and on and on. I do understand the reasoning, no one could absorb that kind of a financial hit Pete, and no one should be expected to. I figure a trip to Orlando is just what the Dr. ordered for this very cold northern person right about now :) Sometimes we have to be like basketball players and think and move on our feet, it will be fine. See you all soon :)

I'm with Joe on that one Pete, it's going to be fun no matter what, I really appreciate everything you guys have done and I'm sorry it just didn't work out but just spending time with friends will be fun, besides we still have the iluminations party, also count me in for the mystery dinner!!

DIS Con is about the people... we will all be there and enjoy all of it. Hugs to everyone who worked so hard on this. You guys did all you could. No one expects anyone to take that kind of hit Pete.

I for one will be there....It will be a blast and a great time for all!!

Thank you all again!!!
hugs

Pete, how much will the dessert party cost us? I'm just wondering how much of a refund to expect?

I am so sorry for you guys - for the planning and the gruff that you all took at times - but you know what - WE ARE ALL GONNA BE THERE TOGETHER AND THAT'S WHAT COUNTS!!!!!!!

Now I just have to gloat - I THINK I CAN SEE JOHN TESH NOW FOR CP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :D:D:D:D:D:D

Sorry all - couldn't pass on saying that!!!!

Thanks so much to you all for all your hard work. I'm still going, I'm still gonna make some awesome memories, and I'm still gonna have a blast!!!! That to me is what matters!

Pete - if we aren't checking out until Dec 8 is that going to mean we will pay extra for staying the night of the 7th?

Oops....forgot to say add me to the dinner!!!! Sounds like it will be fun!!!!

Also another question - what about the passes???? If it's already been asked I'm sorry. Will we still get the rate we all have been charged for or will it be higher (I went in with someone but I'm wondering).

Thanks everyone for working so hard on this. We really appreciate all the hard work you guys put in. I know it is disappointing to have to cancel the offical stuff but sometimes things dont work. We will still all have a great time together and I cant wait to meet all of you.

I am not answering officially............but it is still a convention.. just a different one and we are doing illuminations dessert party with Disney.. so I am assuming that the tickets are fine at the convention price.. but I will get a formal answer for you..

Hi everyone:

The cost of the Illuminations dessert party is appx $40. There will be no change in the price of the passes for Epcot, and as far as the check out on the 8th, the only commitment I've had is from the S&D is until Dec 7th, so I think there will be a higher rate charged for that night (as the night of the 7th is already sold out).

Thanks,
Pete
