Thought with this being the day before Thanksgiving it might be fun to add your tips for how you plan on trying to stay on whatever you plan you are doing, or to try to stay healthy this weekend and tomorrow. Here's mine:
Drink lots of water - keep my water intake up to 84 ounces, drink more if I can
Eat lots of veggies and snack on veggies - won't be a problem as we have checked to make sure there will be some
Walk - during lag times I'm going to walk around the house or move more than I normally have or go out for a walk around the block. I'm also going to workout on the treadmill at our hotel at least 30 minutes each day.
Snacks - take YOUR snacks with you that will help you stay on track - don't be afraid to do this. I'm taking my 100 cal snacks with me.
Goodies - don't be afraid to eat some of the goodies around. Temptation is the hardest thing and often times if you let temptation sit in you tend to eat more - a nibble of something is better than the whole thing. Share a piece with your kids or your spouse - take one bite and let them eat the rest.
Portion sizes - measure if needed. It will help.
Menu - ask what the menu will be before hand if you can that way you can plan what you will or won't want to eat.
Is it really worth it? Ask yourself - do I really want to waste the 400 calories on that little piece of this when I can have 400 calories of a big piece of this...
Drinks - moderately if possible. Don't deprive yourself - one glass of wine or a drink is better than 5. Tip your taste buds just enough to be satisfied, then go back to the water or diet soda.
Don't forget to eat your fruits and veggies - we often put those aside for the other foods but these are very important.
Write down what you ate if possible - that way you can guage where you are during the day. I'm going to try so hard to do this.
Stop when you are feeling full - remember it takes about 15 minutes after you eat (or for me anyway) for your body to realize it's full. Eat slowly and this will help you out. Stop when you are feeling full, don't make yourself miserable. That's why taking a small glob of this and a small glob of that is a good idea and then go back for seconds if you still feel you have room. That way you can get all the foods you want and feel satisfied without feeling like you need to go back to those 2 sizes bigger pants.
Have fun - this is a holiday, a relaxing time. Don't nitpick at every little thing and obsess over if you should or shouldn't eat it. For me that will be the one thing I will remember. I'm going to have lots of eyes on me watching everything I put in my mouth. I don't care - as long as I'm comfortable, I'm going to eat it.
Have a great Thanksgiving!!!!!
