For some background, this trip was just my Mom and I for a quick weekend trip. I'm a very picky/plain eater while she is a bit more adventurous. I usually plan to try at least one new restaurant on each trip but I was cheating on this trip and was using a restaurant I hadn't eaten at in over 10 years as my "new" place. But in the end I did get to try something new. ;) I will also include the special drinks we had here since this was an adult only trip. :goodvibes

YACHTSMAN STEAKHOUSE- This was my 3rd time dining here and my Moms first. She had to try it after hearing me rave about it so much. It did not disappoint. We started with the bread and onion rolls with butter and roasted garlic and we shared a Caesar salad. Love the garlic and the salad is made perfectly. I had prime rib with horseradish mashed potatoes while she had the filet with the same potatoes (it comes with different potatoes, but she substituted). We also split an order of creamed spinach. Everything was delicious. Rating-10+++ (out of 10)

MARTHA'S VINEYARD LOUNGE. After dinner at YSH we visited Martha's Vineyard Lounge to try a drink I had read about here....the Oreo Minitini. This was a delicous dessert, complete with a whole Oreo floating in it. Rating- 10

Main St Bakery- We made a special trip to the MK just to get our favorite French Toast Loaf. Once again, this lived up to our expectations. Very good, but very filling. One little thing was some of the edges were a bit crispy, but I just ate around them and it was still good. Rating 8

MARGARITA STAND (in Mexico)- I don't know the name of this stand, but we had lunch here today. After being so full from the French Toast Loaf, this was the perfect amount of "food" for lunch. We each had a Fiesta Margarita, which is lime, kiwi, strawberry, and mango. Need I say more? ;) Rating 10

ALFREDOS- This is where I hadnt dined since 1995, and before that 1986(with Mom...on our supposed last trip as a family, LOL). We did this as part of the Candlelight Processional Package. We are big fans of Mama Melrose so I was a bit worried skipping that on this trip and dining here instead, especially after hearing mixed reviews. I think I still like Mama Melrose better, but Alfredos wasn't bad at all. We both really enjoyed our meals, and service was great. We were in a hurry and they got us in before our PS time and moved us right along. Of course we were starving by now so we ate pretty fast too. I had the Caesar salad which was good, but not great. Mom had the Mozzarella and tomato salad which she liked too. For our meals I had the meal that comes with 3 different things, like a sampler. It had pasta with plum tomato sauce, lasagna with meat sauce, and a pasta (sort of like raviolis) stuffed with cheese and mushrooms (barely noticeable mushrooms which was good since I'm not a fan), in a cream sauce. All 3 were very good. I expected to have a huge plate of food, but I found it wasn't really that much. I left satisfied, but not overly stuffed, like I am at some meals. Then again, I was very hungry to begin with. Mom had the Fettuccini alla vodka with shrimp, which she really liked. I tried a bit of the pasta(I don't eat fish) and I thought it was very good. If I went back again I would see if I could get that without the shrimp. For dessert we both had cannolis. These were good, but IMO, not the best Ive had. Overall I was very happy with this meal. Rating - 8

TUBBIES- We got breakfast here the morning after a long night at Jellyrolls. I'm sure anything would have tasted good at this point, but I really did enjoy a breakfast sandwich on an English muffin, with bacon (instead of the ham it comes with). I have had this before and it's very good. Mom had some pastries and like them. Rating 10

NORWAY BAKERY- Since I've heard people here rave about the school bread I had to try some. Its sort of a bread stuffed with a cream/custard filling and covered in coconut. This was very good. I would definitely eat it again, but I wouldn't go out of my way to get it. Rating-8

DRINK STAND OUTSIDE THE BEACH CLUB AT PI (I don't know the name, obviusly, LOL). I met up with some friends here and 1 friend and I each got the drinks that come in sand buckets. We both got a Blue Paradise, which was very good. Another friend had a mixed drink (I forget the name...maybe drinking a drink in a bucket kills a few breain cells). This was very well made as we watched the bartender pour...and pour...and pour, LOL! Rating-10

EARL OF SANDWICH- This was my new place this trip. We left PI fairly early as it was very crowded and went to meet more friends out in the Marketplace. While there we decided to get a bite to eat. Between myself and 2 friends we split 2 sandwiches, the original (roast beef), substituting ranch for horseradish sauce, and the All American I think it was called (turkey), minus the cranberries. These were delicious sandwiches and for a great price. This is definitely a good value. We got these 2 sandwiches, a coke bottle, a fountain drink and a side salad for $16.00. Rating - 9 Lost 1 point because earlier there had been a 1/2 hour wait...for counter service! :earseek:

BOARDWALK BAKERY- Here we had a quick breakfast, with a little excitement. I have to say I'm a bit disappointed that they no longer have their own donuts, but now serve Krispy Kreme. I'm not a huge fan of donuts, but I always raved about these ones...even saying they are better than Krispy Kreme. So now since they didn't have my favorite donuts anymore, I was a bit disappointed going there. I decided to try something new. I thought it looked like a cinnamon stick when I ordered it but it was more of a chocolate stick...a long pastry with chocolate in it. This was good, but not great. I wouldn't have a craving to go back for that. Mom had a muffin which she liked.
Usually I like to enjoy a relaxing meal along the water there, but this time things got a bit crazy. While we were waiting in line a woman slipped on the wet BW and was screeching in pain. She couldnt get up and 911 was called. I felt bad for her poor kids watching their mother lay there. Disney stepped up to the plate as always and had a CM take the kids in the bakery and offer them anything they wanted. :goodvibes We finally left before she was moved. If anyone else was there then or knows the outcome of this please let me know. This was one of those really bothersome things to see and I do hope she is ok. Rating-7 minus a point for witnessing the accident, but gaining a point for Disney handling it so well. ;)

KONA CAFE- This has been one of our favorites for some time now. We had lunch here before visiting the monorail resorts then heading to MVMCP. I had what used to be called the pan Asian pasta, but now it's the stir fry pasta or something like that. This was good. it was loaded with chicken and vegetables which is probably a good thing, but I really like pasta so I would have preferred more of that. Mom had a club sandwich, turkey I think. This came with these really different sweet chips. They were great. We both enjoyed out meals. I should add we started out with an appetizer of sticky wings...these are sooo good. :) Rating-8 (10 for the wings)

TAMBU LOUNGE- Here I got the famous Lapu Lapu and Mom got one of the specialty Cosmopolitans. Love the atmopshere here and the drinks aren't too shabby either. Rating-10

Outer Rim Lounge- While we went to check out the decorations at the Contemporary we also grabbed a drink. I had a space monkey and Mom had a key lime something (martini?). Both were very good and went down way too quick. Rating-10

BOMA- We had breakfast here before leaving. Since we were at the Dolphin we had to take a cab. We got ripped off on the way there as we were charged $20.00 and on the way back it was $12.00. Hmmm? I thought $20.00 seemed like too much! :( But anyway, I had eaten here before and this was Moms first time. Again, everything was delicious. My only problem was I was so tired (running on under 4 hours sleep), that I didnt really feel much like eating. I know the previous time I dined here I really ate a lot more. But everything was still very good and I will definitely go back again...maybe at a later time when I can sleep in and I don't need to take a cab. ;) Rating-10

I think that just about covers it. So much for being quick. ;) Any questions, just ask. :)

Thanks for the reviews! Can you describe the "Space Monkey"? Sounds like a great name for a drink.

Your reviews are great! I can not wait to try Main Street Bakery & Yachtsman. I will second the fact that Kona is great, we eat here every trip!

Great reviews, thanks! Hope that woman is OK! Sounds like what happened to me a few years ago. I was at work, 22 weeks pregnant, slipped on a wet floor in one of the group homes I managed and dislocated my knee. The pain was excruciating (been through childbirth twice since then - this was MUCH worse). I was trying so hard to be quiet, so as not to scare the disabled home residents, but it was hard. I ended up biting a pillow someone gave me as we waited FOREVER for the paramedics. BTW, baby (and me) were fine, but they thought I fractured my leg also, so I got transported to the only trauma hospital that would operate on a pregnant lady. Waited 3 hours (with my knee popped out - looking very strange!) to find out, no, it wasn't fractured and for 2 docs and a nurse to pop it back in and almost instantly relieve most of the pain. Jeez! And, NO pain meds, due to the pregnancy, I really thought I was dying!

Anyways, sorry for that tangent, just wonder if that's what happened to that lady. Hope she's OK - maybe someone here knows??

Sandy

The space monkey is made with chocolate liqueur, Kahlua, vanilla ice cream and banana. The glass was drizzled with chocolate too.

Sandym718, that sounds exactly like what it was. At the beginning she was screaming "my knee...its out of the socket...". Then once the EMTs arrived they tried pulling her from a laying postition to a sitting and she started screaming again. They laid her back down and it looked like they were stabilizing the knee with a brace type thing. I just feel so bad for this family. :( During our breakfast another family walked by with a kid running and jumping and he slipped and fell too, then hobbled away. Please be careful everyone when walking on that wet BW!

Oh, I feel so bad for her - to happen at Disney! I wonder if they thought hers was fractured too, since they splinted (like me) rather than popping it back in right away. I remember being disappointed, too (Way later!) - cause they had to cut the leg of my jeans (while saying to my employees around me "now don't scream when you see it" -eek!) and that was the first time I had worn those maternity jeans! How dumb, right?! Really hope she was OK, and maybe with a wheelchair, was able to somewhat enjoy the rest of her trip. Like I said, once it's back in place, the pain is mostly gone. I had to wear an immobilizer for 7 weeks, the first week on crutches, then PT for several weeks after that - right up until I had my first baby.

Sandy

P.S. I NEED a Space Monkey, LOL!

Sounds like quite an ordeal, Sandy. Yikes! And waht bad timing for you. :( Glad everything turned out ok.

Thanks for the reviews, Katie! I was especially pleased to hear you liked Alfredo's. It hard to give a restaurant a fair chance when it's similar to one of your favorites; I'm glad you were able to enjoy it.

And I'm adding the space monkey to my list of things to try next trip - it looks and sounds delicious!

LOL! It looks like the Outer Rim Lounge is going to have a rush on Space Monkeys. ;)

Reviews were great! thank you! Seems like you had some really cool drinks :)

LOL! For the record I don't usually drink that much...not that it was much over 4 days, but it does sound like a lot. ;)
