We had some new neighbors move in last Aug. They are a bit strange, but friendly nonetheless. (For those of you that remember, these are the same neighbors that I posted about knocking on my door at 9 at night unannounced and my dog bit her....long story!) Anyway...

So, our garbage day is Tuesday. The garbagemen come very early in the morning. Most people can take their cans back in as their leaving for work. Our neighbor doesn't do this. (Which is fine, because since I'm home, I don't always get to it first thing, either.)

It's been really windy here and she let her cans blow all over the nieghborhood all day on Tues. (She was home.). So, when I went and got mine at about 3, I picked up hers, in the windy, freezing weather, and brought them over to her house and put them in front of her garage. SHE NEVER EVEN MOVED THEM!!! She has come and gone from that house for 3 days now without worrying about her cans. They have since blown back into my yard and a few of our neighbors. Our other neighbor put it right in the middle of her driveway so she could see it when she pulled in. She did NOTHING!!! It was still in her drive last night, with her car now pulled in behind it. Talk about lazy! The cans are now back in our other neigbors yard, just rolling around.

Sorry to write a novel about this, I don't really know why it bothers me so much. It's just so wierd!!! Talk about LAZY!

(ps - there is no denying they are her cans. They have her ADDRESS on them!)

What a loon!

What happened with that dog bite situation, anyway? I remember reading about it right after it happened but I didn't see any updates.

Her hand healed fine, and she said she has had no problems since. She, however, has not come over unannounced since the incident, thank God. But, now she sends her DH over. He showed up unannounced on Christmas eve at about 8, when we had our whole family over, asking for a potato peeler! :sad2:

Anyway, she said everything is fine. Mulligan is doing really well with his door training. Now when the doorbell rings, he runs for the sliding glass door to be let outside. So, hopefully, we won't have to deal with that problem again!

The next time they blow all over into your yard and she doesn't come to get them, just take them as your own. Then she'll be all over you for "stealing" her trash cans. You can say "well you acted like you didn't want them anymore since you weren't taking care of them, I thought they were up for grabs!"
I bet she'll bring them in next time!:rotfl2:

:rotfl: This sounds just like my neighbors!

They recently moved in, maybe about 2 months ago. They are fixing up the house (which I don't get since it was a really nice house to begin with) so they put the construction garbage out on the curb. They left long pieces of wood out there with nails sticking out of it for over 2 weeks. My mom finally called the sanitation department to give them a warning because they obviously don't get that just leaving it there won't make it dissapear. So they took that away and about a week later, they put it out AGAIN! They received the new flyer from the sanitation dept stating all the rules (how wood has to be cut to a certain size and strung together and cannot have nails in it) but they insist on leaving it on the curb!

My other neighbors used to put loose garbage in their pails outside and leave the top off. So of course it would blow all around the town. Real smart. But they recently just up and moved without selling the house. They didn't even stop their mail! Yeah, real geniouses those ones. (There are many stories I could tell about them and their lack of intelligence or concern.)

OP: Personally I'd put the garbage cans in front of her door so she HAS to move them to get into the house. Or put them in the drive way so she HAS to move them to pull in. But I'm kinda snarky like that.

I think one reason it bothers you is because she making a very obvious statement to everyone by NOT doing anything! But I guess there could be some reason she isn't taking care of them (illness at home etc.)...DH always plays devil's advocate when we discuss these things.

I can relate...my neighbors have their Christmas lights up...from LAST year...Christmas 2005! They have a bunch of decorations up this year...I'm guessing it will be summer and the blow up snowman will STILL be out! :confused3

When I read this all I could think of was "don't let a suitcase full of cheese become your giant fork and spoon".

Maybe it's her husbands job to take care of the trash and since he's not she's not either. It's a marital standoff. LOL

OK-I'll admit it. I'd take the cans!

Hee, hee....me too!!!!

We live in a very hilly neighborhood....I'd probably just "assist" them in blowing away (seriously, I wouldn't have to do much!!)

But, I have to ask...what is she doing with the trash inside her home??? She's certainly not taking it outside.

UPDATE -- CAN WATCH: Well, here we are on Friday. The can is still there, and alternating between mine and my next door neighbors yard. I have gotten several phone calls from other neighbors about the cans, and they have all had suggestions on how to deal with it. The best one so far that everyone agrees on: put it upside down over her mailbox. There will be no denying that she will have to deal with it then!

I'm alittle hesitate about being so mean, but everyone else thinks that I have been TOO nice up to this point. She lives across the street, her numbers are on the can, and she sees it blowing in our yards every day. Not to mention the fact that her recycle bin is at the end of our street!!!

I'll let you know if I get up the courage to do it. And if I do, I'll be sure to take a pic. Let the can watch BEGIN!

OK, I sent my son out to get ours. Let me know if your neighbors disappears.

I've done that!!! Not with things that inconvience others, but other things around the house that are "his" job and he neglects to do--I will leave it FOREVER if I have to, until he does it!:lmao: Y

es, I am immature sometimes :rolleyes1

Can we get photos for Can Watch???

By the way, does your city have any ordinance of how long cans are allowed to be out? Ours have to brought in by sometime in the evening of the day of pickup (can't remember the exact time) or you can be cited.

I like the idea of planting them at the end of her driveway where she can't get in or out. And put a heavy rock or something in the bottom so the wind won't blow it!

Or does she have a front porch that you could put it on (in front of the door)???? Especially if it might keep it from blowing. We did that with the neighbor's recycle can during a Tropical Storm--not to be mean--that was just the only place we could find to keep it from blowing into the drainage ditch.

Linda, you're ok - the can is still there! :goodvibes

Dh is telling me that I can't be mean just because they are lazy. But I do think something needs to be done to get the message across. How much more blantant can we get? We've already returned them once!!
