Some guests don't realize that not everyone gets up at the crack of dawn.......

To be honest, the rules are NOT for the benefit of the strangers in the adjoining room, or at least not entirely. I want my kids to grow up to be decent, caring, thoughtful individuals. If I don't teach it at 4, I don't stand a chance at 24.

So True!! Teaching your kids manners helps THEM to survive in the world and you are doing them a wonderful favor.

Our noisy neighbors were at Disney's Hilton Head resort last month. They were in the villa above us. The first night they checked in, we noticed they were up pretty late and very noisy, pacing back and forth in the villa until well past midnight. We were watching a movie in the living room and it sounded like the ceiling was going to crash down on us at times. We tried to look at it like maybe they were just getting settled in, putting things away in the kitchen and such. The next morning they were up before 6, the pacing started again all throughout the villa and continued off and on throughout the day, along with loud voices. The evening of the second day we settled in to watch another movie and it started again. I called the front desk and asked someone if they could come up and listen to it. They came and were as alarmed as us, but said they couldn't say anything until 10:00pm. Quiet hours start at 10. So at 10:15, since they were still going strong, I called the front desk back and they called our neighbors. Within 15 minutes, all was quiet. In my opinion, people CAN be quiet, they just CHOOSE not to be. Interestingly enough, the front desk asked US if we would like to move. We said NO!, we hadn't done anything wrong, we were all moved in and had 2 more days to enjoy. Packing up and moving would disrupt our trip.

Thanks for relating your story. It backs up my assertion that 1) people who are by nature noisy can, in fact, be quiet if they need to be and 2) Disney policy is not catering to the few rude and obnoxious guests and taking a chance on alienating the vast majority of us who try to be considerate of others.

I have to say thankfully I have not had the problems that I have read on this post but in general life can be like that. My hopes are that when I do take my vacation it is not as bad as neighbors I've had.:cool1:

We had a woman on her balcony with a cell phone, too. Sounded like she was sitting next to me on the couch. I'm getting very tired of listening to other people's phone conversations at the pool, in line at the parks, and even at restaurants.

Wouldn't it be nice if we could request the wing of a hotel where all the guests understand how to behave and be considerate to others staying there? Then all the people who are loud at all hours could stay in their own section of the hotel. Do you think Disney would ever go for this? One could only dream......

I stayed at a Crown Plaza near John Wayne Airport in Irvine CA and was put on the adults only "quiet floor". There was a big sign by the elevator. I only stayed 1 night so I didn't notice if it made a difference. I travel almost every week for work and have learned to ignore the hall noise, I hardly ever notice it anymore.

I was just thinking today.... what could I do with one of these??? I didn't come up with any ideas

It would be nice if everyone would try to keep quiet in the halls at all times. :) Someone might be trying to sleep at any hour.

A good thing to try if you don't want to hear too much noise is to ask to be placed as far from the elevators as possible. Hotels are used to this. But, they can't always place everyone there!

.....while our early morning shower may awaken the person in the next room (and I have yet to meet the Contemporary's "turbo toilets')....

...like THIS?? :

....or, perhaps the 'NO FRILLS' model:

I know that the cell phone thing was not right to do but I have to make a comment on the baby thing.

Do you have young children? I have just experienced having a toddler over the weekend at a different stay that didn't want to sleep in the travel crib or the bed with us. She didn't fall asleep until 11. There were a few times I tried to get her to just cry it out. What the heck to you expect someone to do that can't get a child to sleep in the room next to you because they are away from home, put duct tape on their mouth? It isn't something on purpose like the cell phone or kids running down the hall. That is something that can't be helped or avoided sometimes.

I think people are misundersatnding the point. I have 3 kids and went through the similar expericence. As somebody mentioned, if you have a cranky kids at night, it is YOUR responsiblity to calm him/her down. If you are trying to make your kids quiet, generally people understand you are trying.
Instead of duct tape, you can carry/hold your kids, or you can take him/her out from your room and go lobby or pool area of the resort. Sometimes the change of scenery calm kids down. You can give him/her water or small snack, they may be hungly at night.
We all know that kids can be cranky after long day at parks, and we also feel sympathy to parents who have to deal with those cranky kids after long day. But it is still irresponisible to conclude the situation as "I did everything I could but my kids are still cranky so people should deal with it".

1) I am sorry, but you are at an early morning vacation destination.
2) One should expect early morning noise.
3) Let alone excited and even cranky kids (from late nights).
4) The only option is staying at a convention hotel or stay off-site.

This is the biggest copout I have read in a looong time.

Everyone understands and expects that SOME people will be early risers, even if they are not.

A reasonable level of noise due to normal activity is acceptable.

Screaming down the corridors outside someone else's room or playing games in the hallways before 9am is COMPLETELY UNEXCEPTABLE.

Parents who fail to realize this and make no efforts to train/remind their children to be respectful of their neighbors are boorish and rude.

It's not just kids, and it's not just Disney resort hotels where guests are that inconsiderate. I've stayed at hotels where other guests are literally having a party in the hallway outside my room at 2 in the morning.

And it's not just guests. What about the gas-powered leaf-blowers and other equipment being used before 7 in the morning? Why does Disney have to do that?

We stayed at Great Wolf Lodge in Williamsburg VA recently. For some reason they put us in a new wing of the hotel where you could see construction was going on. The receptionist assured me there would be no construction noise early in the morning. But before 7 AM there was loud machinery and loudly cursing construction workers all over the hallways. I complained and received a free upgrade for the next night in a construction-free area.

We always request to be away from the elevators at any hotel. I can't believe all the noisy, annoying things people will do while waiting for an elevator!:sad2:

My BIGGEST gripe is that people just plain don't realize they are on hotel grounds...HELLO!!!! You are walking past people's bedrooms, why do you need to speak LOUDLY when it is dark outside? And how about even keeping your voice to an "Inside voice" when you are in your room at night?? I really, really don't understand how people can walk around someone else's room at midnight and yell, laugh, run, etc. What is wrong with people? Last year at CSR (which I thought was a quiet resort) a guy walked directly in front of our door at 2:00 a.m. and YELLED to his wife who was about 10 doors down..I was already awake, couldn't sleep, and I jumped out of the bed and opened the door to find him standing right there. I said, "HEY!" and he looked so totally shocked, he just said, sorry....I mumbled something about an idiot and closed the door.

Another time at Hark Rock Hotel, at about 11:00, some people were on their way out to party, and they were being extremely loud and yelling, etc. Again, I opened the door, said, "Hey my children are trying to sleep." They looked directly at me and never shut up...I was dying to find out where their room was so I could go by their room at 7:00 when I would be up the next morning.

I really don't understand people at hotels. No consideration, none at all. I'm not perfect, but I accept the fact that people sleep in their hotel rooms, and we observe "quiet hours."

When we stayed at PC this September and returned to our room from MNSSHP, again, I couldn't sleep (my batteries in my noise machine ran out.:headache: I was up all night, but noticed that at about 2:00 a.m., there were children's voices laughing and talking very loudly in an adjacent room.(I know, PC's walls are very thin). But NO adult voices at all. NONE. And the chatter went on til about 3:00. I think the kids parents left them alone to go out and party...

I wanted to add this note I forgot about. Last March we stayed at ASsp during a spring break. There were 4 or 5 college aged young men next door to us. The first night, they were a getting loud, and my DH went to their door and asked them to keep it down because our boys were trying to sleep.. The young man who answered the door apologized, and they were very quiet and polite to us the entire remainder of our stay. Now if college aged young men know enough to be quiet, there's no excuse for the rest of us.

we had a noise problem at PC in september (we'd stayed there 2 x before and never had a problem)-NEVER, EVER again will i accept a pool-view room! we had planned to sleep-in the morning after MNSSHP since we stayed until the end, but, of course, there were at least a dozen kids screaming in the pool before 7 a.m.! there was also a teenaged boy (about 13, i'd guess) on our floor who'd brought his skateboard along and enjoyed riding it up and down the halls at all times of the night!

My personal favorite from our Sept. trip was the night that one of our fellow Poly (Tokelau) neighbors decided that it would be a good idea to let their 3 kids run up and down the hallway in their jammies around 9:00p to get them tired for bed. They did this for no less than 30-40 minutes, running, jumping, sometimes yelling....all so that THEY could fall asleep easily for THEIR parents. Meanwhile MY kiddos were in OUR room being kept awake by them while they burned off their energy.

Thanks mom and dad!! GREAT idea!! :thumbsup2

2) One should expect early morning noise.
3) Let alone excited and even cranky kids (from late nights).
4) The only option is staying at a convention hotel or stay off-site.

1. Doesn't matter - noisy in a hotel is RUDE, no matter what time of day or night.
2. Expect it? Maybe. Tolerate it? NEVER. noisy in a hotel is RUDE, no matter what time of day or night.
3. Doesn't matter - noisy in a hotel is RUDE, no matter what time of day or night. If the kids are not getting enough sleep, put them down earlier or wake them up later; lack of sleep making the kids cranky ruins their trip and yours too, which is kinda stupid. And it doesn't change the fact that noisy in a hotel is RUDE.
4. Wrong - my option is to call the front desk and complain. Noisy in a hotel is RUDE, whether you're at a WDW resort, a convention hotel, a $5 a night roach motel, or the Ritz Carlton.

1) WDW is a family resort.
2) And, at family resorts there will be quiet, average and noisy families.
3) Both adults and kids get excited at WDW, and it comes out.
4) Plus, some people are simply more noisy than others.
5) That is why CM's "usually" don't get involved unless late at night.
6) And sometimes get involved slowly.

NOTE: I have seen many times where a noise complaint after midnight resulted in a phone call to the offenders. A manager went after the second call. There is a fine line between noisy and too noisy.

NOTE2: Please remember that the WDW motto is that every guest should have the vacation of their life. This includes the noisy ones.

1. So what? Noisy in a hotel is RUDE, whether you are a family, a couple, a group of teens, or solo.
2. Yup. And the noisy ones need to be quiet when they're in a hotel - noisy in a hotel is RUDE.
3.Agreed. But let it come out quietly, or let it come out in the parks - noisy in a hotel is RUDE, no matter how excited you are to meet Mickey.
4. Yup. And the ones who are noisy in a hotel are RUDE.
5. CMs fail to get involved because they are taught never to be confrontational with a paying Guest, no matter how RUDE the Guest is behaving.
6. To bad the CMs are not taught that the resort has rules and that Guests are legally bound to follow them or they can be ejected.

NOTE1: Good, I like it when a manager has the guts to take charge.

NOTE2: Duh, Illogical! Illogical! Norman coordinate! Letting ONE noisy Guest ruin the experiences of TWENTY others in the same hallway inherently violates that whole philosphy. To me, the definition of "Vacation of my life" includes not getting awakened by noisy, rude people in the middle of the night; you may not care about that aspect, but I do, and from the responses in this thread, it seems that I am far from alone in that opinion.

Now if college aged young men know enough to be quiet, there's no excuse for the rest of us.

Now come on, of course there is an excuse...it's called ENTITLEMENT, or the "I can do whatever I want because me and my wants are more important than you and yours" syndrome. :rolleyes1

I have to be honest after reading all these I am even happier with our decision to stay at FW cabins again. :cool1: 3 days till we leave !:woohoo:

You'll love the cabins. They are quiet, remote feeling & so relaxing. There are definitely no worries about loud guests in the hallways!
