if i rent points from a dvc member and they make the reservation under my name, how do i get towels, etc since i know there's no housekeeping. also has anyone had a bad experience renting someone else's points? i'd love to stay at BW for my end of january trip, but i'm nervous about having someone else book my reservation. can i really save money doing this as opposed to waiting for an AP rate for january?

Staying on points you get fresh towels at the start of your vacation, and then on the 4th day. If you need your towels cleaned more often than that, you either need to wash them yourself, or pay for daily mousekeeping.

Most people report good experiences with their stay when renting points, but I'm sure somebody has had a bad experience sometime. If people have problems, it's with getting a reservation, etc all set up in the first place.

If you are nervious about renting from somebody other the Disney, then renting points might not be the best option for you. There's always some risk.

You can usually save money renting points money *if* you can find somebody to rent you points and a good price, and *if* you can get a reservation for the time you want. The big savings are if you want a 1BR or 2BR and want to stay during the week. If you are just looking to rent a stuido vs renting a BWI room and if you are staying mostly on the weekend, you are probably better off just going through Disney.

You can also order an extra packet of towels for $6 if you wish. Daily housekeeping can be paid for on an "as needed" basis as well, so no need to do it daily. Some will just pay the extra $10 daily for a daily trash and towel service.

We had a very positive experience when we rented points last Dec to stay at BWV. We were treated just like any other DVC member while we were there. We did do lots of laundry, but since it's right there in the room, it's very convenient! We would definitely do it again!

End of January THIS YEAR? Renting points is pretty easy, what is hard is doing so on anything resembling short notice. There may be rooms available for the end of January, they are unlikely to be Standard View, so use the preferred view point schedule.

Yes, you can save money, but like all sorts of money saving deals, there are catches - your relationship is with the DVC member, not with Disney. While very few people have had problems (particularly here with renting through this board), it CAN happen and Disney probably won't do much to help you. Cancellations are very different than dealing with CRO - with a reservation a mere four months out, owners may want all their money up front and have a no refunds policy.
