solo trip top ten moments

Heading down to the World in 10 days for my first solo trip - and I can't wait! Just for those reasons you listed - the fact of having total freedom, without having to worry that the Hubs and kids are having a good time - will be so liberating!!!
:cool1:

ok, you guys are making me feel really good about pushing myself to do this! i think i'll have to make a plan ;)

I just did my fourth solo trip late last year.

All resorts, no parks for the first time. Just hung out at the resorts for dinner; the lounge at POR in the evening and read all day.

I just came back last week from my first solo trip to the World. Wow, what a wonderful experiance! Due to a family illness, I added a data package to my blackberry phone so I could keep in contact with home. I ended up posting on Facebook and soon realized that I wasn't totally alone...all of my friends started following me and I couldn't belive how closely they followed my posts. When I came home I was surprised at how many people came up to me and told me how much they enjoyed reading my posts!

Some of my favourite experiances:

- strangley enough...dining alone! It gave me time to process my day and remember all of the fun things I was doing. It also gave me a chance to plan the rest of my day/next day. I also had a chance to chat with a few neighbouring tables. I actually convinced a couple from NJ to try poutine at Le Cellier...they told me they liked it :goodvibes

- being able to make short notice plans...If I woke up early and wanted to I went to a park at opening...if I was tired and wanted to sleep in, I did :cool1:

- not waisting time by trying to decide what everyone wants to do. I didn't have to humour anyone else's whims and didn't have to go on any rides I didn't want to...I rode Pirates and Big Thunder many times over and no one rolled their eyes pirate:

- I had popcorn for breakfast and no one told me I really should have something better popcorn::

- standing in a line and having the castmember asking for a party of one and being able to skip the line :woohoo:

- touring the resorts and spending time relaxing in the lobbys and being able to spend as much time there as I wanted to.

- watching the Wishes fireworks from the Poly beach

- shopping as much or as little as I wanted :worship:

- strolling the world showcase with no conversation...being able to listen to the music being played at the different pavillions...wow, they play a lot of Gorden Lighfoot at the Canadian pavilion! :confused3

- listening to other's conversations...lots of chuckles!

- eating at the places I wanted to eat!

- stopping to take pictures whenever I wanted and not slowing down the rest of the group!

I would encourage anyone who is sitting on the fence about going solo to give it a try!

Just did my first solo this past weekend, wonderful, liberating experience.

One of my favorite moments was talking to this adorable 6 year old girl on Test Track, she was a total adrenaline junkie and kept squealing and telling me to hold on tight, it was her favorite ride at Epcot.

Stopping to smell the roses, literally, I had never noticed the Plaza Rose Garden b/c we rush past it. I finally found it and wandered around for a while and leaned over and smelled the roses. Very peaceful!

I actually liked dining alone, I found that I ate a lot slower and actually savored my food. When I'm with my family I guess I rush through so we can leave and am always making sure they are liking what they are eating, especially my picky eater DS.

So I'm thinking I live in Ireland and everyone I know would say I'm made even considering going so far alone but I love Disney plus if I go alone I can stay on property as wouldn't normally as "to expensive" plus i can eat at the restaurants we don't normally eat at as again "to expensive" but then I'm alone and so far from home so that thought is kinda scary

Don't be afraid to talk to Cast members and also you will find if you are in line for attractions, people will chat.... :goodvibes

Some of the previous posts remind me of my faves when I'm solo:

- Test Track! The single rider line for this is great. I think one time I rode it 4 times in an hour. On this occasion, they didn't even close the doors to the holding room for the single riders. (In fact, when we go as a family, we usually do the single rider line anyway...we're all old enough to be away from each other for 5 minutes)

- Chatting with the CM's. I found this to be best at the World Showcase, especially with the kids on the college program.

All of your posts have made me even more excited to go solo in October 2011. Very excited and look forward to reading about more top moments from everyone.
Thank you for sharing!!!!

My first solo trip was this Februrary:cool1:. It was fantastic!!!I stayed at the WL which I would highly recommend for solos! It was my "Mommy getaway" so I got to everything I wanted for a change!!!

My best solo moment was actually for about 3 hours!! I signed up for Dolphins in Depth and to my surprise I was the only one for the day!!!:yay:. It was like I had the entire aquarium to myself! I was able to ask any questions I wanted, got lots of attention and didn't have to share the dolphins with anyone else but me!!! It was amazing and I am blessed that I lucked out and noone else signed up!!! :cloud9:

I'm thinking about a solo day trip, I live about 2 and half hours away and was thinking of driving for there for the day and going home that evening. Am I crazy? Is that too far to go for 1 day? I would feel weird staying overnight because hubby would be home alone and he's not a Disney fanatic like I am, the weather has been beautiful and Disney has been calling my name, do you think they have a wrong number?;) Seriously though am I crazy for driving a total of 5 hours for a day at the parks?

I don't think thats crazy at all. Obviously, I'd get a pretty early start and stay pretty late, but not so late that the 2.5 hour trip home would be difficult.

I seriously am thinking about taking a solo trip now after reading this. I have not done a whole trip before. I have gone a few places over night by myself but not a whole trip. I am all of the sudden excited.

I agree with the posts about missing being 'solo' when going with friends and family after a few solo trips. While I love WDW anytime, my solo trips have become some of my favorite Disney experiences. Many people don't 'get' it, but those that enjoy my passion for Disney certainly do! :woohoo:

I would love to go on a solo trip! I just haven't figured out how to approach that topic with my family yet - I don't think they would think it was a great idea. :lmao:
