solo trip top ten moments

Sounds great to me!!!!

Welcome to the DIS, kedougou, kwdw, susan, NJ, and hopkins.

When traveling solo, is it worth getting the park-hopper option on your tickets?

dtstampz- I added park hoppers to my 10 day solo trip. I'm sure I could get by without the option but I like the idea of being able to skip over to another park if it is busy in the one I went to in the morning. I also am going during the free dining so I want to make sure that I can go to Epcot and eat at all of those yummy restaurants!

You are so right! I was at WDW in November for a conference, and although I missed my fam (every little girl looked like my daughters ...) I truly enjoyed getting to take my time and poke around.

My last night was a stroll around WS at Epcot, starting with a cucumber margarita in Mexico, lots of shop browsing all around, dinner in Morocco, dessert in France, and a pint in UK just in time for Illuminations. So relaxing!

Hi,

I went to WDW eight times between 1982 and 2007, the last seven of them solo trips. Going solo can be the type of blast you can't approach with dynamite. :-)

What an awesome thread! I love solo trips...am about to take my 3rd one in a few weeks!

My top 10 solo moments:

1. Meeting a wonderful couple while eating at the bar at Jiko; not only were they great company over dinner, but afterwards they insisted on driving me to Epcot for Illuminations, where they bought me a glass of prosecco and showed me their secret spot for watching the show!

2. Riding TOT 8 times in one day.

3. Spending as much time as I wanted just lying in a hammock, alternating between dozing and enjoying the view.

4. Having an entire boat to myself on Pirates -- a little creepy, but in the awesomest way.

5. Really fun interactions with CMs, once they realize I'm solo -- especially at HM during the halloween party!

6. Feeling completely safe, all of the time, even at one in the morning.

7. Going back and forth between parks as much as I wanted, because there was no one to complain about time on the bus.

8. Drinking wine on my balcony every night.

9. Spending as much time taking pictures as I felt like.

10. Riding, eating, and doing whatever I wanted to!

Leaving on Sunday for a six night solo trip. In the last few years, most of my trips have been solo. However on my last two trips, I have had friends with me which meant I was not only the tour guide/planner but had to consider their wants and desires, not to mention restaurant choices, every day. I am sooooooo looking forward to this trip because I can get back into my routine of getting to the parks shortly after rope drop and riding all my favorite attractions before the park gets crowded and eating lunch where and when I want to. Until I had friends with me, I didn't realize that I was so "set in my ways".

My top moments for my Disney solo trips are;

1. Single rider lines while I spent 4 days at WDW visiting all the parks.
2. Able to do what ever I pleased (shopping, eating, downtown disney, late nights, etc)
3. Finding a perfect spot for the fireworks show at Epcot.
4. Finding a perfect spot for the Not So Scary Halloween Parade at MK.
5. Having my own room both on the cruise and at WDW.
6. Looking forward to my next solo cruise on Friday (1/21/11) for 9 days on the Disney Wonder and creating more top solo moments.

I've taken so many solo trips to the World and had so many great moments, it's hard to come up with exactly 10, but here are a few I remember.
1. The night I rode Spaceship Earth repeatedly without getting off. What made this special was that I had it in mind to see all the Hidden Mickeys on the ride-anyone who knows me knows I can never find HMs. Each time around the CMs were cheering me on and giving me more hints.
2. One time when I encountered the dream squad. They were approaching every family who passed a certain spot, telling them "It's your lucky day" and giving them dream Fastpasses fo the day. When I finally approached them to ask why it wasn't my lucky day, they'd mistaken me for a CM. What I especially remember was asking a dream squad member about his job, and talking for several minutes about his job.
3.My first solo character meal. The servers bent over backwards to see that I was taken care of, I felt like I had two servers! They were so sweet!

I just reread this and realised that so many of my outstanding memories involve CMs. Coincidence? I think not!

People are actually envious of me when I tell them I going away all by myself!! I've had so much fun doing it.

Some favorites are:
-Having lunch at the Kona Cafe and having the side of the restuarant to myself.
-Walking the path from Wilderness Lodge to Ft.Wilderness and not seeing a single sole coming or going
-Sitting in front of the fireplaces and reading a book at Carolwood Pacific Railroad Room at The Villas at Disney’s Wilderness Lodge and having the whole place to myself.

I was only considering going solo but this makes it seem just wonderful. I was afraid of being lonely at night, but it just seems like I'd be asleep. It's DISNEY! People are FRIENDLY! (I should mention I live in New York City) It's so strange how I actually long for Disney World! I;d love to go with friends; but I'd like them to go off on their own most of the time. Ha!

I liked the warm caramel sundae from Ghiardelli's for breakfast. One plus of going solo-being able to indulge in guilty eating pleasures with no one to notice.

I saved the ice cream for lunch. :rotfl: No one around to notice my revised vacation food pyramid... I ran the 1/2M, I deserved it. At least that's what I told myself. :)

My top solo moment - being the only person at AKL in the lobby at 7:15 and then sitting at the fireplace in the viewing area by the savanna watching the giraffe. Calm, beautiful.

I also loved talking with a father with an about 6 year old daughter in line at Mission Space. She was really scared at going on the ride and I helped dad calm her down. Dad clearly appreciated my contributions!

I did this too with a little girl who was scared on Pirates.. I told her to look for the dog with the key and she was SOOO excited when she got off the boat... she came running up to me to tell me she saw the dog!!! :goodvibes (and she wasn't afraid...)

yes... :thumbsup2

That's my FAVORITE place at WDW... the one at the Poly... you know.. between the two palm trees???? :cloud9::cloud9:

So... how did you do on the marathon?

Yes! Between the hammocks at the Poly and at CSR on my last trip, I was sooooo happy! I think I clearly need a hammock of my own. And perhaps to live someplace warm enough to use it. :goodvibes

I did a partial solo trip last year. I stayed at ASMU and some of my top moments:

1. Eating a WHOLE PLATTER of loaded nachos poolside while reading my book - not having to share nor having to listen to anyone saying...we spent all this money to sit by the pool?

2. Striking up a conversation with a mom and her two daughters while in line for Dinosaur. They had never rode it before and I assured them that while it was a bit jerky and loud, they should follow the storyline and they would enjoy it more. They insisted I ride with them and afterwards thanked me for the tip as they never would have paid attention to the storyline (which I think is the best part of the ride).

3. Not having to worry if my companion was having fun or not...all I know is I AM!
