I visited WDW solo this summer (2010). It was amazing! I could do what I wanted when I wanted. It was the perfect trip (with one minor exception). I camped at fort wilderness. I was little worried about staying their by myself but it went well. My only complaint is that I am not a morning person and I didn't have anyone with me to make me get out of bed. As a result, I didn't get to see any rope drops. Next time I will take a better alarm clock.

Top ten moments from my solo trip

1. single riders line for everest! Rode it a billion times in a row. The wait for non-fast pass folks was about an hour. The single folks like me had less than five minutes depending on how luck you got. It helps that the single riders line is kinda hidden and hard to find. Ask a cast member if you can't find it, soooo worth it.

2. sitting on the beach at fort wilderness with a lovely adult beverage in my hand watching the fireworks. It was such a nice night I wish I could have stayed their all night.

3. I didn't feel obligated to go to the studios, my least favorite park

4. I didn't feel guilty about going to Animal kingdom and Epcot every single day (my two favorite parks)

5. Followed a friends advice and rode the rides during their down times. Rode the rapids at AK first thing in the morning while every one else was at the safari. I was able to stay in the same raft and ride on through a second time because their were 0 people in line! In the afternoon that ride and a monster of a line. Rode the safari when everyone else was watching the parade ect.

6. second in line for thunder mountain! I missed the rope drop on the early hours, but only some parts of the MK was open anyway. When I arrived the rest of the sections were just getting ready to open. I joined the crowd gathering at the ropes and had a great cast member who promised that her groups always gets there first, but don't even think about running or try to pass her or she would whoomp you with her umbrella. :rotfl: She was the fastest speed walker I ever met. I stuck to her like glue and was rewarded with the second seat on the first ride of the day for thunder. :cool1:

7. none of my ususal travel mate like to try different types of food. I got to pick the restaurant every single time! My fave was the sit down place in the back of morrocco.

8. all of the wonderful people I met and random conversations with really kind hearted people

9. park hopped to my hearts content

10. When I got home, I love the look in people's eyes when I tell them I went on vaction by myself. It is usually a combination of amazment, pitty, surprise and envy that they don't have the guts to to that. They have no idea what they are missing:laughing:

Sounds like you had a fantastic time!

I didnt know there was one! will be making ALOT of use of this in a week & change!

My top solo moment - being the only person at AKL in the lobby at 7:15 and then sitting at the fireplace in the viewing area by the savanna watching the giraffe. Calm, beautiful.

I also loved talking with a father with an about 6 year old daughter in line at Mission Space. She was really scared at going on the ride and I helped dad calm her down. Dad clearly appreciated my contributions!

yea look the single rider line - although still miss the ones at mission:space and soarin' that they closed.

oh well there is still the one at Test track.

been going solo for quite a time - love it!!!

Heading down to the World in 10 days for my first solo trip - and I can't wait! Just for those reasons you listed - the fact of having total freedom, without having to worry that the Hubs and kids are having a good time - will be so liberating!!!
:cool1:

My favorite solo moment this past trip was giving 2 Soarin' fast passes to a man and his young daughter. I had 4 passes and had done it twice in a row and decided that I wanted to move on to F&WF in WS. As I was looking for 2 people to get in the stand by line I heard him asking the CM something and she said come back close to closing and the line may not be as long (75 minutes). He was walking away rather disappointed and I asked him if it was only the 2 of them. When he said yes, I handed him the fast passes. He was so happy and grateful. That was every bit as good as the rides. I love being able to do whatever I feel like doing as a solo traveler.

I know what you mean...I am going down in January for 10 days by myself and I get the same range of reactions. I love it when people say, "You're so brave" I tell then I'm going to Disney not going to war!

I'm so excited to go and take my time to enjoy everything!

Thanks for your post, it made me really excited about my first solo coming up at the end of January. I just booked yesterday, and I'm a little nervous but I figured I would try it and see how it goes!

I know what you mean, people think I'm crazy for wanting to do this. Oh well, I like to do different, interesting things anyway!

Is there a list somewhere of what rides have single rider lines?

I totally understand about traveling solo. I travel a lot for work so vacationing solo is no big deal for me. My mother can't understand how I can do that, she's also the youngest of 5 so she's never really had to do anything alone. She also has that fear of her only child being in a bad situation. Like you said it's Disney not war. It's so liberating seeing what you want to see when you want to as often as you wish. And if you have no children it's an added bonus because you don't have to deal with the meltdowns little kids have.

The SRL at MS was taken out to make room for the green team queue. The soarin' line got absorbed into the standby line to make more waiting room :sad2:

I mainly do solo trips because I am the only one in my family that gets Disney. Unless I am attending a hard ticketed party I close Epcot every night of my trip. Restaurant Marrekesh (sp?) (the restaurant in back of Morocco) is my favorite but can be hard to get into sometimes.

One of the things I do is have breakfast at Boma at least once the whole trip but usually on longer trips like my december trip I have at least two ADRs for breakfast. I haven't done dinner yet but may do so this trip. Too bad Kouzina is closed during my trip.

Did you stay long enough to see the Electric Boat Parade? If not, put it on your list for next trip. There were only a handful of people on the beach the night I watched it. It was like the parade was being held just for me. :thumbsup2

That is awesome how did you pull that off ?

lmao that is a little creepy looking, kind of in a ghost sort of way, but very cool at the same time.

Ok, now that's cool! I'd love to ride ToT alone.

I got very lucky. I was the last person out of the preshow, and when walking to the elevators, everyone took a right, I walked straight

I took the pic of the monitor with my cell phone, I was too cheap to spend the $20 on an 8x10. seriously, what would I do with an 8x10, why don't they just sell normal 5x7's?

Thats even better that you didn't buy the picture. Classic.

Wow, I never really thought of all the great reasons to go alone. I would have never even considered it until now! I am starting to get super excited about my trip, and possibly meeting some new people :)
