Solo Thanksgiving Questions

Don't really know how to preface this except to say I hope this doesn't come off as depressing or desperate, more than anything I'm just looking for input.

I am FINALLY moving to Orlando. (Well, mid-October I am.) I got my dream apartment and a job at Disney and I am overwhelmed by how well everything is coming together. However, at dinner with my family this evening we all came to the realization that for the first time in my life I am going to be alone for Thanksgiving/my birthday. I don't hate being alone, I mean I am moving to Orlando alone! But it's already started to hit me that that is going to be really strange.

So, I started looking at what all is going on at Disney during Thanksgiving, and seeing as I have never been to Disney during a holiday I am really excited to experience all of that. It seems like they are going to have tons of different Thanksgiving meals, too! And, that's all well and good, but now I'm starting to wonder-- what will that look like?

Would it be totally weird for a young girl to be alone at Disney for Thanksgiving? I know it shouldn't really matter what other people think, but there's A LOT of people at Disney giving you the stink eye all the time for no reason. Would I be embarrassing myself or making too much of a scene? Especially if I went to a nice restaurant, which is what I really wanted to do. I just want honest feedback. I'm not looking to make a spectacle of myself, I was just trying to find a way to still have fun during a holiday....and, you know, my birthday.

I haven't gone to Disney solo during a holisay, but the time that I have gone solo have been fantastic with no judgement from anyone. As long as you're not waving your hands, jumping up and down, screaming "I'm here alone and I hate all of you!" you won't be making a scene. When you book you restaurant reservations, if you have trible finding a place for one, try two people. The system is sometimes glichy with solo dining. (I've done this specifically with the Wave and Sanaa in the past. As long as you show up, it is not a no show, and you won't be charged a no show fee.)

Note that Thanksgiving is the highest attended day at the parks, so if you're going to MK, go early so you don't get locked out because of occupancy limits. (Another reason no one should pick out a solo, it's so busy, there's a good chance no one will notice.)

I agree with PP - as long as your not making a spectical of yourself you'll be fine.

When I travel solo I bring a magazine or a book with me so that when I am dining I'm focusing on that vs. what's going on around me. It makes me a bit less self-consious.

You may also find that you enjoy people-watching as well.

I just recently went on my first solo trip and wasn't really bothered by much of anything. I suppose bringing something to keep me occupied for meals is a better idea during the holidays.

I guess I could really just not do a sit down meal if I'm uncomfortable. But that kind of defeats the purpose of why I even wanted to go if I don't.

Going on my first solo trip in 27 days. :) My plan for mealtimes is to use that time to charge my phone (bringing a wireless battery backup), upload pics to Facebook and touch base via text message with folks back home. I know when I'm running around the parks and having fun, these are going to be the furthest things from my mind, and will be a good way to occupy myself during dinner.

Also hoping at Coral Reef to score an aquarium-side table so that the fishies can keep me company! :P
