Solo Disney Trip

My friends and I had planned a trip out to Disney late last year, but since then they have all found significant others. While feeling alone and dejected I worry that our plans will fall through. Do you think a solo trip to Disney could still be enjoyable? Any thoughts and advice are welcome.

I used to visit a vendor near Disneyland for work and would often take an extra day to do Disney solo.

I always enjoyed it! It’s a different type of fun than in a group. I enjoyed doing what I wanted when I wanted and not having to consult anyone else on where to eat or what to ride. I could spend hours shopping if I wanted, or sit and people watch .

I never felt awkward, but I’m pretty comfortable doing things on my own. Most people will be pretty absorbed with what they are doing to notice you are by yourself. I had many a good conversation with others waiting in lines. Most of the people I’d talk too would just assume the rest of my group was riding something else until I talked to them for a bit.

I go to DLR about 4 times a year. Usualy 3 of the trips are solo. I much prefer them.

Don’t tell my family but solo trips are my favorite. I get so much more done, can follow my own schedule and have found it so much more relaxing.
I am an introvert who likes people and Disneyland is the perfect place to be alone with 25,000 other people :) I usually end up having multiple enjoyable talks with other guests in lines but I always have my phone if I need to go back into my shell for a bit.
Try it! You may end up having your best trip ever!

I’ve done it countless times and have always had a blast. I’m an extrovert and have no trouble striking up conversations with nearly anyone so that’s one of the reasons things don’t feel awkward and why I don’t get lonely at the park. I recommend solo trips highly, especially if you’ve got a smidgen (or more) of extroversion. Hope this helps.

I go solo to WDW (and on cruises) all the time and am 4 days away from my first solo trip to Disneyland (ok, pseudo-first trip...last time was early Sept 2011 so so much has changed, especially at DCA it feels like the first time - but first solo trip anyway). I have also done solo trips to Florence, Italy, Dublin, Ireland, and London, England. I LOVE traveling solo. I can do what I want for as long as I want or (in the case of theme parks) ride as many times as I want. If there's something I don't want to do or ride, I simply don't do or ride it. No one's food hang ups to deal with but my wheat and peanut allergies.

I have cruised with one friend, but we had a long discussion beforehand and made it clear that the nights where dinner was regular (we had one late night port where it was "just come to the dining room any time") we'd eat together; but other than that we could do what we wanted. Yes, several ports we chose to do the same excursions, but not all.

Solo travel rocks!!! Stop feeling sorry for yourself and give it a shot!!

I've done solo trips, and actually find Disneyland to be a bit more solo-friendly than WDW. DLR has more single-rider lines, plus the crowd has more local drop-ins and such. It is absolutely fun!

Solo trips are the BEST (no offense to my family). You eat when you want, rest when you want, ride what you want, and don't have to accomodate anyone else's needs/wants. I have a habit of trying to please everyone when I'm with other people, but I actually get to be selfish when I go alone and I love it.

The ONLY downside is not having someone to find a table while you pick up QS food, but you know, that's hardly any kind of a downside.

(Also, WonkaKid said it works for extroverts, but I'm an introvert and it works for us too!)

100%!!

The biggest "but..." I see when people are all hesitant about solo trips is "But other people will look at me!!!" Trust me. As long as you're behaving yourself and not causing a scene, no one else CARES what you're doing. Not walking around the park, not in lines, not on rides, and not at restaurants.

The experience is a bit different but I enjoy both solo trips and going with friends.

On solo trips, the main thing is having something to do to stay entertained while waiting since you don't have friends to talk to. A movie on your phone or something could be great for that. Or sometimes you could strike up a conversation with CMs or other people in line.

What I like most about solo trips is being able to do whatever I want without worrying about what my friends want to do. Sometimes when traveling with friends or family, we split up and go do our own things anyway because not everybody wants to do the same thing.

Or you could just be quiet and look at the details of the line. At least I don't have to be entertained 24/7 - sometimes it's nice to be quiet in a sea of humanity.

I wish I had an excuse to be in California by myself so I could take a solo trip. I almost took a job that involved traveling extensively to California just so I could work in a solo trip.

I‘ve done WDW twice as a solo. I wanted to see for myself whether I could do it on my own and enjoy my own company. I loved it. I enjoyed the freedom to make all decisions based only on my own preferences. I chose the wake-up time, the meals, the rides, the snacks, the rest times. I definitely plan to make more solo trips. They are a nice change.

People won’t even notice that you are by yourself, and if they do they really don’t care.

Yes, only once in dozens of solo trips has anyone asked me if I was traveling alone and it was an extremely stressed out mom who sighed “oh, I envy you!”

I enjoy going solo. It just depends if you are the type of person who needs to talk to people the whole time. If not, it's probably better than going with friends.
