Hi , I am planning in travelling to Disney Solo next year

The onlything I am worried about is eating alone in restaurants

If you have travelled solo is what are your favourite table service restaurants where you have felt most comfortable ?

I personally like Boma. I ate there alone in May and just blended right in. I went to other places too (House of Blues, Rainforest, Kona Cafe, etc) and never felt out of place. I was going to Chef Mickey's but had to leave a day early, so never got to experience a solo character meal. Maybe next time. :)

Not sure if this is what you are looking for but hope it helps anyway.

I went on my first solo trip this May too and ate at Flying Fish (at the chef's counter/overlooking the kitchen) twice (loved it!), Cap'n Jacks (I was sat a great table overlooking the water) and Rose & Crown (they sat me at a small table in the 'corner' on the patio overlooking the water, again another great table).

I also ate at Tokyo Dining with a Dis friend, there were a number of solos in the restaurant and I'm going to return solo next year, it had a great atmosphere and I know I'm going to feel comfortable there. Another restaurant I didn't get to try this year but am going to next year is Jiko, and will request to sit at the open kitchen area there too.

In 2008, I was able to go solo for a few days (my DH and sons joined me later in the week). I enjoyed every minute of it and was glad to have done it at least once. I never felt self-conscious/uncomfortable in any of the restaurants I went to. That being said, I would recommend the following for a solo-er:
1) Le Cellier - very intimate setting, small tables, excellent food!
2) Akershus - I went to meet the princesses and they were very gracious to a solo-er like me. Top-notch character interaction! I came complete with an autograph book and took plenty of photos. The character handlers made sure I got good photos with all the princesses. The food was so-so though. :(
3) Tony's at the MK - again, I had a small table to myself and the waitstaff was excellent. Good Italian food, but I daresay comparable to Olive Garden at best (sorry, Tony's)
I also ate at various CS places and I never felt out of place.
Have fun on your solo trip! :goodvibes

I'm done solo many times. I really felt comfortable at any of the Disney restaurants. The CMs are really great. A few of my favorites are Boma, Tusker House, Jiko, and 50's Prime Time (at the bar).

I've traveled solo lots of times. First, I find that if you tell them at check-in that you're solo and ask politely for something to look at/a view, I've gotten some really nice tables. Some faves-
Chefs de France at lunchtime with a window table watching the people outside
Rose & Crown on the porch at lunchtime-nice view
Coral Reef tankside
Sanaa by a window overlooking the animals
SciFi-everyone's watching the screen, so it feels like eating at home in front of the TV
And strange as it may sound, don't discount character meals. Watching the fun of the characters interacting with the children gives you plenty to watch, and unless you bear a striking resemblance to the characters in attendance, no one will even notice you-they're too busy looking around for where the characters are. I like the one at Cape May Cafe; with people attending conferences at Yacht Club and Boardwalk, there are always several other solos there.

Thanks all , that makes me feel so much better-I didn't really want to be eating burgers all the time I was there

I loved eating at the sci fi diner by myself (but that was largely due to having a really great server).

At both Flying Fish and Jiko, they put me at "less than desirable" tables but at both places the food was exceptional.

I did Boma and Kona solo, and both were great. At Boma I had a table by the window (which I didn't ask for) and at Kona, I asked for a booth against the wall and got that. I was not uncomfortable at all and the servers were very attentive.

I went on my first solo trip in May. I mainly did TS for lunches, I prefer my big meal in the day either before my afternoon break.

I did:
Teppan Edo- Lunch. Really good, wasn't next to overly friendly people, they were ok. The food was great!

Tony's- Lunch. Nice small table, great server, pretty good food.

Plaza- Early dinner, small place, sat next to some cool off-duty castmembers with the college program, so we talked. They were fun.

Kona Cafe- lunch. Excellent!! Probably the best lunch I had.

Le Chefs de France: Dinner. Excellent!!!

I didn't feel weird at all. I have 3 kids and am a teacher, so I am around people all the time. It was nice to be alone. I cherish my alone time, I always have, even as a kid and teenager.

I've gone solo to several Disney restaurants, including the Crystal Palace. The cast members and the characters go out of their way to make solo diners comfortable. I loved every minute of it, as well as watching all the children have a great time!;)

I really liked Sanaa solo. The way that it's laid out makes it relatively easy to sort of blend in. Plus the service was very quick, which is nice when you're alone. Boma was nice solo too. Since it's a buffet, it's entirely at your own pace, so if you don't want to sit alone long, you don't have to. I think I'd be fine with Kona solo too; their layout is similar to Sanaa's.

I ate at the Plaza solo, and I'd go back again, because I really liked the food, service, etc, but I wasn't as comfortable there solo. My table was VERY close to those around me which was a bit awkward. Although the table next to me started joking around with me, and we had fun, so I guess the awkward set up did turn out ok.

I have gone on 3 solo trips, and have never felt uncomfortable eating alone. I am lactose intolerant and have the chefs come out and talk to me, so that is pretty cool. I have to say though I have had the opposite experience than other posters as far as character meals. I was pretty much ignored as a solo diner!

I travel to Orlando often for biz and always stay at the Swan/Dolphin. I often will eat at the bar at Shula's or The Yachtsman. Both are outstanding.

Thanks for all the replies, you always think you are the only one going solo.

I have travelled to Disney many times but always with others & I have never actually noticed anyone eating alone but can't say I have looked ,so probably others don't look either.

I've eaten at several WDW restaurants solo, including Rose and Crown, Sci-Fi, and Le Cellier. At each place I had a great experience, didn't feel awkward or ignored, and enjoyed the food and atmosphere. Of course, I might just be used to solo dining since I've done a lot of solo travel or solo dining at home.

The only restaurants I'm not crazy about doing solo are buffets. First, there's nobody to watch my purse when I go back to the buffet line to get food. Ladies, you know what I mean! So I feel like I have to pack up all my belongings just to go get a slice of pie. It's annoying.

Second, I've had servers clear my table and try to seat someone else in my place when I returned to the buffet. They also thought I had run out on the check. This didn't happen at WDW, but it's happened a couple of times at buffet restaurants at home. They think because I'm gone and my purse is gone that I'm finished and that I left for good. Aaarrrggghhh! So I tend to avoid buffet restaurants when I'm alone.

I'm kinda iffy on family-style restaurants when I'm solo, too. Sometimes I just don't want to share a table with strangers. Then sometimes I don't mind so much.

I'd forgotten about that about buffets, but you're so right! Also, probably because I'm a klutz, I have this nightmare that I'll load my plate with food, then trip and fall with a loud crash right in the middle of the resturaunt!
Anyways, I did have my dessert thrown away once when I got up to go to the rest room once. The server was so appologetic and brought me a new one right away when I came back. Now I always leave stuff on the table if nature calls-glasses, a book, stuff like that.
